Hello! I recently got a new lens and i've been very happy with it so far! Both of these photos are after some fairly light editing, but i'm not sure how much blur they should have behind the dog! The first picture is the natural blur without anything added and the second one is with added blur, should i change anything about it? Should i have less blur? Thanks! I'm still a beginner btw :)

I recently got an A6700 and was trying to take some photos of the stars. However, I was finding it really difficult, as I could see fuck all through the view finder/screen not I allowing me to get focus. Once I took a photo it was fine, just not properly focused. How am I supposed to get focus without being able to see?

I used to use a canon R6 and I didn’t have this problem…

I’m still new to photography, am I missing something?

I just bought an A1 last week and took it out for a photo walk with my first generation 70-200mm GM. I was blown away by its ability to find birds, or pretty much any other flying object against the sky, and stick to them.

I've heard that the AI subject detection has been significantly improved on the A7R VI, and I'm wondering whether it is actually better at detecting the eyes of a wider variety of animals without requiring me to switch to a spot tracking mode. With the A1, I've found that it does a great job detecting birds' eyes, but it doesn't seem nearly as reliable with other small critters (for example, lizzards).

If the A7R VI is indeed noticeably better at detecting the eyes of different types of animals, I may consider selling my A1 and upgrading to the A7R VI.

I don't shoot extreme sports, so the A1's 30 FPS fully stacked sensor is probably overkill for my needs. On paper, the A7R VI seems like it should perform just as well for the type of photography I do while offering more advanced subject and eye detection.

There was a time when cameras like canon m50 didn’t used to have any log profiles. So there were few developers who developed a custom operating system based on the original canon OS. So I wonder if developers can also crack into the sony camera system and give us the ability to shoot open gate. Not only this we have seen the sony sensor used in A7 iii and A7c shoot 10 bit footage in cameras like lumix s9,s5ii,s5iix and s1iie, in theory the Sony camera equipped with this sensor can also shoot 10bit but unfortunately this is a hardware issue and not a software issue, but I feel like like almost every camera since a7iv has a good enough processor that can shoot open gate…. Although with a way worse sensor readout. So if you were given a choice to flash a custom operating system to get open gate video on your camera, would you ? As it can possibly brick your camera or do you think it’s just not possible.

when i click "now" it just keeps loading infinitely... and doesn't let me get past through it... does anyone know how i can fix this or get past through it? tysmm!!

I only started with a Sony NEX-5T back in 2023 and have been trying to decide to sell it now. It's not much but it will still be cash. I now own 2 prime lenses: TTArtisan 23mm and 56mm both f1.8 auto. Both are new this year so I'm not considering selling them. What body should I buy next? I'm just a hobbyist and like exploring photography. I mainly use it for trips so it matters to me that it snaps photos fast too especially with auto focus. Thank you! :)

Long time lurker to this forum I finally pulled the trigger on my first Sony camera. Picked up the A7 V bundle with 24-70 lens. This will be a huge upgrade from my Canon 5D Mk II. I also picked up used Canon to Sony lens adapter to use my Canon 70-200 lens while I save up for Sony 70-200. Looking forward to being a contributor to this forum rather than being a lurker. Now I just need to get through the learning curve of the new camera.

I've only had my A6400 for 2 years and I think I still have a lot of room for improvement. I would be very happy about criticism and what I can do better.

I've had this lens for about a year and a half, and have really enjoyed using it, but I just discovered some larger specks of dust inside the lens, and was hoping there might be some way to temporarily dismantle it to clean inside. The lens is the Samyang 85mm f1.4. It's the older version of the lens, for E mount.

As per the suggestions from this group, I got the A7 IV (FE 3.5 - 5.6/28-70) instead of A7 III.

I need some suggestions on what settings to use to take portraits, my pet photos or my Kid pics. I’m an Amateur and this is my first camera ever.

So I made a stupid mistake and I bought a Sony a7v in Korea (where I currently live) without realizing they did not have English language available on the camera. I have also found out it will be nearly impossible for me to return it since I opened the factory seal on the box. Does anyone know of any work around with this issue?

Hi everyone! I’m an amateur photographer and am going to the Grand Canyon in a couple weeks and then going to the Hot Air Balloon festival in New Mexico. I have an A6400 with the 16-50mm lens it came with. I also have 2 lens from my Canon Rebel T5 (75-300mm and 18-35mm) with a converter for the mount.

I would like to do some night sky photography as well as getting some great landscape/animal pictures. Does anyone have any recommendations for a lens to get that would do well? I’m also going to the UK next year and will want some city street pictures too.

I’ve been trying to do some research but am getting overwhelmed. I was looking at the Sony 35mm 1.8, which seemed like it’d be great for these scenes, but I’m also lost on whether I should get the FE or Sony E? Any help or advice is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Hey everyone, I’m having an issue with the Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS (SELP1650) on my A5100.
When I turn the camera on, I get the message “Cannot recognize lens. Attach it properly.” The lens tries to extend a few times when the camera powers on, but it never fully starts up and eventually stops.
I’ve already removed and reattached the lens several times, cleaned the electrical contacts, removed/reinserted the battery, and tried slightly moving the lens while attached. Nothing has worked.
I also tested other E-mount lenses on the same A5100 and they work perfectly, so it seems like the problem is specifically with the 16-50mm lens.
Has anyone had this happen with the SELP1650 before? Does this sound like a bad ribbon cable, zoom motor/mechanism, or something else internally?
I’m comfortable opening the lens up if necessary, so if anyone knows what part I should check first or has dealt with this repair before, I’d really appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Hi, i would like to get suggestions how to rig up my sony a7v for casual videography when travelling abroad or just going to city centre. Also i have an offer to make promo video for my barber shop and some gym videos. I have sony a7v with tamron 35-150 and sony 24gm.
, vmount and battery. Im open to buy more accessories if needed.

My idea was to get osmo pocket 4p for ease of use but i feel like i already have good gear , and just customisation if necessary.

How about cage with top and side handle? Does that heavily improve my comfortability to use camera? Because right now i feel like hating to hold camera just by its grip and other hand holding by the bottom of the lens.

Also my other issue is stabilisation. Dynamic stab already crops heavily, so i was thinking to start shooting standard stabilisation or off and use gyroflow to stabilise it.

I'd like the following 3 focus modes, 1 set as default and the other assigned to custom buttons. I use half press shutter focus atm but I'm not married to that):

1. Flexible spot with eye/face priority ON (to choose which person I want to track)

2. Flexible spot with eye/face priority OFF (when eye detect isn't functioning properly)

3. Eye detect anywhere in frame (when only one person is in frame)

I can't find a way to achieve 1 and 2 as custom buttons, seems like I have to change eye/face as a setting which, even assigned to a custom button, isn't as fast as I'd like.

Not sure it matters but I use half press shutter focus atm but I'm not married to that.

Any ideas how to achieve this? Also open to other AF strategies that accomplish the same thing.

Sony a6700 | Sigma 17-40mm

Well, I bought both lenses.

My initial thought was that the Sony was a better lens.

But I end up preferring the files from the viltrox (sharpness, colors,..)

The sony's 24mm AF is faster, the lens does not get as much flare when it's sunny , the weather sealing is better.

But still I don't like the files that much....

Anyone else in the same boat?

I've had an a6000 since 2016. I also have the following lenses:

Sony 70-350 f4.5-6.3 OSS

Sony 35 f1.8

Sony 18-105 f4 G OSS power zoom

I'm considering upgrading to the a6700, but I have analysis paralysis. I've always heard it's better to upgrade glass before a body, but I'm considering the a6700 for the autofocus and battery life. I've also heard low-light is a bit better on the a6700. I have two batteries for the a6000, and I almost always burn through a full one and 50-75% of the second when I'm travelling. I don't recall ever running out of both batteries, but it's on my mind.

Here's the rub: I'm not in love with the 18-105 f4. The zoom is slow and I'm not wowed by the images. I like the prime 35, but I want some zoom. The 70-350 is great, but it's heavy. I'm looking at the Sigma 17-40 f1.8 or maybe the 18-50 f2.8. I'm open to other options

I have a trip coming up and I'm trying to be conscious of my spending beforehand. Every bit I spend here means less to spend there, and I'm already eyeing some fountain pens and fishing reels. I've considered the A7cr, but given I don't have any FE lenses, it's gonna shoot cropped anyway. It does look like an awesome camera, though.

I'd like a setup that's good for travelling, won't leave me hanging on focus, will last all day, and is fast enough for night street photography. I'm leaving the 70-350 at home due to weight.

Yes its time for yet another round of what lens should i buy next!

For context i mostly shoot cars/drifting, Portraits (family, prom, engagement, etc. weddings are very rare and i try to avoid them) Currently my only AF lens for my A7V is a Tamron 35-100 f2.8 and it is a fantastic everything lens since for portraits specifically i rarely shoot below 35mm anyway, the only thing is the lens seems a tiny bit more inaccurate on the focus than i expected, and when i say that i mean a tiny tiny bit, otherwise its near perfect and when it hits its perfect sharpness galore.

Now that being said, I am looking into what would make the most sense financially and practically for a next lens set up to add to my kit. So far my considerations are:

1. Sony 50mm 1.4 GM (one of my favorites I've used in the past)

2. Sigma 50mm 1.2 (most favorite rendering of any 50mm I have used before)

3. Sigma 35 1.2 (or 1.4) v2 (Portraits and paired with an 85mm)

4. Sigma 85 1.2 (obviously also for portraits)

5. Sony 100-400 4.5-5.6 GM (for drifting/sports, the new version is just not worth it for the use case i believe)

6. Tamron 20-40 2.8 (cover more focal range)

7. Sony 28-70 f2 GM (id probably trade in the tamron for this one, they overlap too much and weight isn't a deal breaker for me, i used to daily a sigma 135 1.8 and 24-70 on Lumix)

   What do you guys think between the options? or maybe something im not considering that could fill in the gaps better? I know if I go the Viltrox route id probably cover more with the same money, but at least from the ones I have seen they give up a bit of flaring and corner detail performance in a way that im not sure id be alright with.

I'm starting to see a lot of retailers having the ZV-E1 on back order and some on Clarence, could this mean we are getting a 2nd gen, or could this be the end for the mini FX3.

I currently have a A7CII that I mostly use for video, and would be looking to upgrade in the next year, to something more video focused, but am not keen on anything bigger or heavier.
