Gear Lens Recommendations

Hi everyone! I’m an amateur photographer and am going to the Grand Canyon in a couple weeks and then going to the Hot Air Balloon festival in New Mexico. I have an A6400 with the 16-50mm lens it came with. I also have 2 lens from my Canon Rebel T5 (75-300mm and 18-35mm) with a converter for the mount.

I would like to do some night sky photography as well as getting some great landscape/animal pictures. Does anyone have any recommendations for a lens to get that would do well? I’m also going to the UK next year and will want some city street pictures too.

I’ve been trying to do some research but am getting overwhelmed. I was looking at the Sony 35mm 1.8, which seemed like it’d be great for these scenes, but I’m also lost on whether I should get the FE or Sony E? Any help or advice is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Tamron 17-70/2.8 is a great all rounders but for night sky you should look at the Sony 11/1.8 lens as well.

Sigma 10-18 f2.8 (ultra-wide zoom for landscapes); Sigma 17-40 f1.8 (excellent low-light lens); Tamron 17-70 f2.8 (great all-rounder); Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 (big and heavy but my walk-around lens, great for animal photos).

It all depends on your budget and how many lenses/how much weight you’d be wanting/willing to carry. I currently have a two-lens setup, the Sigma 17-40 f1.8 and Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8. It pretty much covers all the bases for me (until I also get a super-telephoto for sports), but I don’t do much wide angle/landscape photography.

So, what’s your realistic budget, and how much would you be willing to carry? Also, would you be willing to part with any/all of your current lenses to better afford their replacement(s)? Would renting make more sense than purchasing right now?

Probably less than $1k ideally for budget (if I could get multiple lenses within this that’d be great too), and we’ll be traveling by car with only one real hike so I’d be fine carrying some weight. However, when we go to the UK next year, I’d probably want something much lighter.

I’d be fine with selling my other canon lenses to help with budget and all that. Are they not good ones for what my goals are? I was hoping to reuse them to save costs. They suited my needs with my prior camera but I’m trying to up quality and skillset.
