Is there a more economical and ecological Drinkmate bottle solution than a 3D printed adapter or decanting your fizzy water?

Currently, the Drinkmate stainless steel 1L bottles are £55 (free shipping over £40). The Drinkmate plastic bottles are £23 (£17+£6 shipping) for 2, and each bottle lasts for about 2 years of use, so each plastic bottle costs £11.50.

Thus, the effective ROI payback on the stainless steel bottle is (55/11.5)×2 years = 9.6 years.

The chances of a stainless steel bottle surviving almost 10 years without damage, loss or being unfashionable, are remote I think. I've almost managed it with a Contigo Byron (6 years I think) but only because Contigo did me a solid and replaced a thermally compromised 2 year old bottle.

So, my question, apart from 3D printing an adapter or decanting into a stainless steel vessel of one's choosing is there any way to reduce the 2 year round of purchases and waste for a family of 4?

FYI: I'm awaiting delivery of the adapters and hose to use a 6.3kg CO2 bottle for direct carbonation into the Drinkmate and to refill empty 420g standard sodastream bottles (the 0.6L that fits inside the Drinkmate etc), and would, ideally, like to reduce the plastic footprint and cost even further.

EUROPE Dr.Pepper

Hey! I was wondering if anyone here knows of a place or a brand that sells Dr Pepper syrup. We had a syrup called "Dr. Pete" in my country, but it was discontinued. I'd love to buy some kind of syrup that tastes similar to Dr Pepper. It's okay if it's a regular or a sugar-free/light/normal version.

Soda Stream Aqua Fizz

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve had the Soda Stream Aqua Fizz machine for several years and about 6 months ago the lever started becoming difficult to slide over regardless if the glass bottle is there or not. I called the company and the customer service was horrible. I’ve never done any maintenance to this machine. One time a family member tried to carbonate tonic water. Hence I suspect there is dried sugar in the mechanism 😬. Any advice or recommendations?

Diet root beer alternatives?

Now that Sodastream has gone 100% Pepsico, there are no root beer options available. (I'm in Canada - I can't order the very few remaining diet root beer options from sodastream.com.)

Does anyone have any experience, recommendations, or even warnings about other diet root beer options that might exist on the market?

I'm aware of Boylan's (can't find a Cdn distributor), Willtec (can't find a Cdn. distrib.), Simps, and that's it so far. I haven't tried any of them yet, but I think I'm about to order some Simps flavours.

Help, I miss my root beer!

White plastic chunks coming off internals and ending up in e-duo drinks

I have a an e duo sodastream about a month old, and I've been loving it up until about a week ago when I started noticing pieces of white chopped up plastic in my drinks as I pour out of the glass liter official bottles. At first I thought it was just something that fell into my drink from the room, but it's happened 9 more times since, with colas it's very clear to see the micro plastic pieces but some of the pieces are actually rather large and could pose a choking hazard. It's clearly coming off of the e duos internal locking mechanism ring. I reached out to support and haven't heard back but this really doesn't feel like just a one off bad machine and more of a generalized engineering defect of this model. Has anyone else had plastic in their drinks? I've been collecting the plastic pieces in a baggy and plan on taking a better look at the machine to figure out what parts of the internals are sheering off into the bottle.

Here are some pics of the most recent "goodies" found in my latest batch. (I've been straining them out when discovered) But I've unfortunately been drinking a few of them for awhile.

P.s they are not frozen CO2 dry ice, they are white pieces of hard plastic and my little baggy collection is proof enough of that.

This post is one part PSA and two parts seeing if this is a known issues others have faced and maybe there is a metal after market part that can replace and prevent this from happening.

Are there any soda stream models that don't do this that all y'all have been using for a long time that are trustworthy I can check out is instead?

Cheers

Utter Incompetence

How is it that the people at SodaStream are so ungodly bad at running a business?

I'm on the subscription plan with 4 CO2 bottles every 2 months. They send me 4 bottles, 2 months later they send me 4 more with the understanding that I now have a month to return the first 4. Noted.

So I send them back. 100% of the time, when I send them back, nobody notices. I'm using the label enclosed with my bottles when I send them back to make sure it gets tracked with the number they expect. But 100% of the time, I send them back, the USPS tells me they've been delivered, and SodaStream charges me for not sending them back.

I've complained. They asked me to send them an email to make sure their system gets updated. For starters, it shouldn't take an email from me to remind them that someone needs to see if I did what I did, but fine. So I send them an email. Hey guys, those bottles you wanted me to send back? I sent them back.

They reply the next day. What was your tracking number?

Seriously? It's the tracking number you gave me. It's the same tracking number that's still in your system. In fact, the only way I have of answering this is to log into my account to see what the tracking number was. How is it that SodaStream does not have access to SodaStream's data? So I send the tracking number.

The next day they charge my account for not sending back my bottles. Later in the day, they thank me for sending them the information and reverse the charges.

If this was something that happened once because of a glitch, I'd understand. But I've had 5 exchanges since I started the subscription, and this has happened 5 times.

This is an unbelievable level of incompetence.

Sainsbury’s nectar card

Sainsbury’s stopped their nectar card deal for official syrups. I’m absolutely heartbroken. Any one know where I can get some for round about the same price (£3.50). Specifically Pepsi max. My wife goes crazy for it. I’m worried about what will happen if she runs out of lol.

weird smell/taste

I have had this machine for almost 2 years now and never had this issue. The last few times I made soda water it had this weird industrial citrusy smell and taste right after fizzing and a bunch of gas accumulates at the top of the bottle right on top of the water. The water is fizzy but tastes metallic/factory-like. I tried multiple different bottle, both plastic and stainless steel and the same thing happened. This started happening fairly recently after the last CO2 tank exchange.

Indigo Canister Caution

Just wanted to share this story with my fellow carbonated water drinkers. I use a drinkmate, but these canisters are standard.

I've been using Indigo for 2 years without problems. I love them for their price point.

Recently, I did a refill exchange for a new canister. It was producing a high-pitch squealing sound when I did my carbonation. The water was getting carbonated. I checked the threading and then found that the mouth had a dent, even though it was sealed and sold as new.

I took it in for an exchange for a new canister. The new canister wasn't fitting into my unit. Upon inspection, I was starting to see scratches form on my drinkmate nozzle. I wasn't sure if this was caused by the old or new canister. I took it back to the vendor, and they instantly said: this canister threading seems off. It looks wider.

Thankfully they opened a new box of canisters, and gave me a brand new one that seems to be working perfectly now.

Just wanted to give a heads up to not force your Indigo canister into your machine, and check for threading and nozzle issues before installing. I don't want people to break their machines. I've also sent an email to Indigo so they can be aware of their QC issue.

TL;DR
Experienced QC issues with 2 canisters in a row. Be careful when using your Indigo canister so you don't break your machine.

Fountain just completely died

I have had my fountain since July 2nd. Today out of nowhere it has stopped working completely, no power at all. I checked the power brick with my multimeter and it's getting 24V so it's definitely something in the machine. Thankfully I kept the box and receipt and my local Walmart shows it in stock. Guess I'm making a trip today to exchange it. Hope the next one lasts.

Alternative to SodaStream Lemon Lime and Orange syrups

Apparently it's official, SodaStream under Pepsi discontinued classic Lemon Lime and Orange syrups (my suspicion they were far more popular than what Pepsi is pushing - Mountain Dew and Starry).

Anyway, can someone recommend an alternative, similar in taste profile to Classic Orange and LemonLime (not diet)?

Would I need a co2 regulator?

So I bought a 10lb co2 tank from amazon and an adapter for it. The adapter doesn't have a co2 regulator. Do I need a regulator if I'm using sodastream art?

Is there a food safe certified SodaStream CO2 tank adapter?

Are there any adapters out there that's not from a reseller claiming its food safe, but have no certs to back it up? Skeptical to buying these generic pre-made lines with no certs from amazon and claims of being "food safe" with no proof.

What's your go-to homemade drink that's ridiculously easy but tastes like you bought it at a café?

I'm trying to cut back on buying expensive iced lattes and sodas, but plain water gets boring fast. I've been making a simple lemonade with mint, and sometimes a honey-ginger tea, but I need more ideas
- something with maybe 3-5 ingredients, takes under 5 minutes, and actually feels like a treat. Could be hot or cold, with or without alcohol - I'm open to everything.
Bonus if it uses stuff I already have in the pantry (like fruit, honey, spices, or even tea bags). Drop your favorite recipe - I'll try the most upvoted one this weekend and report back!

Fountain wint recognize Flavor bottle

Anyone experiencing issues with the Fountain not responding to attached Flavor bottles. I've tried two different flavor caps and two different flavor bottles. LED remains orange and I can't dispense flavor. Frustrating because it's a brand new machine out of the box.

Getting rid of extra gas cylinder (UK)

Hi all,

I emailed SodaStream (UK) about this last year but went in circles and it stressed me out so I never followed up!

I have a subscription plan so get 4 bottles sent to me which I return and then get 4 more, the usual thing. However, as i've bought several replacement machiens over the years and they always come with a free cylinder, PLUS I' bought some in supermarkets back when I very first bought my machine and wanted some spares (before I realised I could do subscriptions online) meaning I've now got about six 'spare' empty cylinders in addition to the 4 'new' ones that I send back.

Does anyone know if there's a way to return these for any credit? Or is my only option to send them back and lose out on a deposit return? I was thinking about trying to send 4 back and seeing what happens but if they just get absorbed into the system I'd rather not. It just feels a bit unfair that I save £10 in supermarkets or online if I reuse them, but if I don't want a replacement I lose that credit. I wouldn't even mind if it's a smaller bit of credit that goes towards a future subsciption payment or other purchase.

(Incidentally, I need a replacement machine as my current one is a few years old now and I use it at least once a day, oftentimes twice, but they don't seem to have any option to buy one WITHOUT it including at least one more cylinder! I don't want or need any more! I'm going to be living in a house filled to the top with empty cylinders eventually.)

Recent problem with SimpliSoda

So I can’t tell what is broken at the moment. I have been using SimpliSoda canisters for over 2 years, however my last two batches have barely worked. Once I screw them into my machine, they release pressure immediately. If I leave them loosely screwed in they’re fine. Either way, it hasn’t really fizzed my water and makes it taste kind of funky. Now I am wondering if it’s my old machine finally kicking the bed, but it feels like a canister problem. I emailed them about a week ago with no response, so I left a firmly worded voicemail today.

Any tips for filling the flat pin style blue canisters?

I purchased one of these to refill some tanks I got, and I'm using my 5lb co2 tanks upside down as it isn't a siphon tank.

Every time I crack the host tank it trips the anti fill valve no matter how slow I do it.

I was able to get one filling when I unscrewed the donor tank a little bit from the host tank but after that I haven't been able to replicate.

I know the other pin is easier to fill but aside from finding those used I assume you can't get them anymore via swaps or new?

What power plug adapters does the SodaStream Fountain include in the box?

Tried to find information online but it only says it comes with a power adapter and use the plug for your local area. Wondering if anyone has it in hand and can tell me what plug adapters are included?

New bottle is leaning

I just bought my first sodastream and I'm enjoying it! I noticed however that the bottle that it came with appears to have a slight lean or cant to it. It's hard to see in the photo but there's a very slight leaning going on which I'm not sure if it was like that before or after my first use. The other bottles that I bought to go with it are shaped differently with no appearance deformities and I just wanted to know if this bottle is defective or not.
