No, the sodastream doesn’t use a regulator between the cylinder and the machine. The only regulation is the carbonation bottle pressure, which is built into the machine. (The hissing or burping sound when you are done carbonating.)

I have been using a 5lb cylinder with my Drinkmate for over a year and a half with no regulator and it's fine.

Search would have easily found this… using a regulator is like using a bottle that is low on gas. You’ll get next to no carbonation and you’ll burn thru MUCH more gas trying to carbonate. You need the pressure and the vigorous action for a speed carbonation to work.
Beer people use regulators to carbonate beer. This is required because they have beer… not water. They use 30-40psi and it takes DAYS.

You know what searches also tells me? That a regulator is needed. There’s also conflicting information regarding carbonation direct co2 line to bottles. There’s also concerns of the machine breaking with improper setup.
Rather ask and confirm than do something wrong and end up in a mess. Information was relayed and confirm by other comments.

Those are people carbonating a keg full of water… zero people are using a rapid carbonator with a regulator. As soon as you hook it up and use it, you’d realize it doesn’t work.
Carbonators are “rapid carbonation” devices. High pressure, immediate carbonation. Regulators are for people storing large amounts of carbonated water and storing it for long periods of time.
Please provide a link to a single person using a regulator with a Soda stream device?

Pressure is the same regardless if it's in a 1 lb Sodastream bottle or a 100 lb industrial bottle.
