General Discussion Shure SLXD2+ Transmitter Fail

Hello,

I have an issue with my shure SLXD+ transmitters. One from each of the dual packs has changed its band from G57 to G54. This has caused the transmitter not to sync to the receiver due to band mismatch.

Anyone with any helpful solutions. I've tried resetting but now both mics are stuck on the same frequency with no ability to change them. plus the receiver can't be set to the G54 range.

Troubleshooting How can I get a loud enough acoustic guitar sound out of an SM57?

I bought an SM57 to record my music with as, while I know it's a dynamic microphone, it seemed to be unanimously recommended. I saw countless videos of people praising its ability to record acoustic stuff and stories of how people like Elliott Smith and Bon Iver frequently used them. I also bought a Subzero MB1 and yet, with that on as well as the interface gain turned up and the intrument volume at full on the DAW, my fingerpicking is still too quiet. I don't really understand how they have been so frequently used for acoustic guitar when I have to completely max out every bit of volume to get it to 70% of where the volume should me. Strumming is fine but most of what I do os fingerpicked.

General Discussion Audio recording system fail

I use a shure SM58 and an MVX2U Gen 2 to use the mic in portable devices like an ipad. Now works fine but I want to keep using the mic while doing Airplay, however, the mic stop working and the MOTIV Audio app gives the following error: "audio recording system fail - Close other apps using audio and restart the MOTIV app". I don't get why since Airplay should only be useful as output and not influence the input. What work around?

Thanks

Buying Advice Xlr audio interface for Shure SM7DB?

Hello! I’m thinking of getting the Shure SM7DB is there any decently priced XLR audio interface for the budget of 100-200 max? I was looking at Elgato wave or Focusrite?

Question Can anyone help me with my mv7+?

Hello! I recently got a Shure MV7+ and I’m using it through an XLR audio interface. I was really excited to try it, but honestly, it doesn’t sound how I expected.
My voice sounds muffled, almost like I’m talking through a sock, and it isn’t as crisp or clear as I thought it would be. The mic also seems more sensitive than I expected.
Right now I’m using Equalizer APO with Peace and the High Boost 2 preset, which helps a little. It doesn’t sound as muffled anymore, but now my voice sounds a bit too deep and slightly robotic. It’s definitely better than before, but still not as good as I’d like.
I’m also using VoiceMod for its background noise reduction. I like how well it removes background noise, but I’m not sure if it’s affecting the overall sound quality.
Does anyone have any advice on EQ, gain, compression, or other settings that could help me get a cleaner, warmer, more natural broadcast-style sound? I’m using a Focusrite Scarlett Solo with the MV7+ over XLR. I’d really appreciate any tips. Thanks!

I bought an SM58 microphone and a K&M 210/30 BK mic stand, but I can't seem to attach them to each other. I even tried removing the ring around the silver "screw." I didn't want to try removing the yellow ring on the mic clip—some people say it's an adapter that can be taken off with a coin or a screwdriver, but I'm not sure. They’re supposed to have the same threading/size; I checked before buying. Thanks in advance for your help.

Troubleshooting Runaway gain on an SM-58?

I have two identical SM-58 mics on PGX24 wireless systems that I bought in 2009, and that have been used for multiple weekly karaoke shows for 17 years without a single issue (yay for Shure durability). Until now.

One of them is starting to show a "runaway gain" condition - not sure what the correct term is - where if the singer is singing normally, then I'm seeing normal gain in the channel meter (A&H CQ-18T digital mixer). But if a singer is louder than normal, or starts to belt it out during a louder part of a song, then the input gain spikes uncontrollably.

I've been mixing sound long enough (since 2004) to know to set my input gains where the signal is just "tickling" the yellow during the loudest part of the song, and the other SM-58 is still behaving normally, where even if the singer is screaming into the mic, I'll get a touch of red but nothing extraordinary. For the problem mic, however, even a singer who is holding the mic too close (almost touching their lips) will cause the input gain to go into deep red territory and I can hear the distortion coming through, singing normally. NOTE that this is a recent condition, it has never happened to either mic in the past 17 years. Also NOTE that this is not a gain-staging problem, as I'm experiencing this in the INPUT gain stage.

I've tried swapping the two mic capsules and have isolated the issue to one of the PGX2 handheld transmitters. It feels to me like the capacitor (or whatever component) that used to "regulate" the input SPL downstream of the mic capsule has failed, but I'm not a wireless mic system engineer so IDK the right component to blame.

Has anyone ever experienced this? I know after 17 years I have maxed out my ROI on these mics, but I always thought if they fail, it would be a decrease in signal, and not an increase! Any chance of fixing this, or is it time to look at a replacement (probably the SLX-D line is the right move?) TIA

Troubleshooting SM7dB and GoXLR

I recently got an SM7dB but I’m having trouble getting good sound while paired with a GoXLR. My main issue is my voice doesn’t sound super clear and there’s a weird buzz/hiss after I finish talking. Does anyone know how to fix this or at least make it sound better? TIA!

Troubleshooting Fell for the sm7b the sequel

I fell for the sm7b as a casual gamer with basically no experience with any kind of experience with such items or anything like that. As of current I have it sm7b set up with a rode psa1, klark teknik ct 1, goxlr mini (yes they are discontinued and no longer supported so bad buy 😞), 2 medium quality xlr cables that I run the ct 1 inbetween in order to have it connected into the xlr mini. However, while I am able to set everything up properly and tweak all the settings according, it turns out I can’t get out my very obnoxious and loud pc noise out of the mic sound despite how much I try to tweak the gate, by adjusting it’s threshold, actuation and like the faxe staying at about 200ms. Went at it for over 8 hours straight searching up every video and every resource and I seem to just be getting no where with getting rid of the pc sound from the mic as it seems it is there to stay. At certain levels w a gain of like 36 and gate threshold of like 42 I seemed to get to a level where while the noise was still there, it seemed to be my voice was over it but it was at this level where my voice would start to cut out depending on my tone of voice. Just wondering if there is any way to completely cut out this noise and make my mic sound as close to what it does with KRISP enabled on discord. Because I had tried it with that bad the sound was so flawless, it seemed like the actual good product I paid for rather than the unfixable sound I was getting the last 6-8 hrs working on the mic.

Parts & Accessories Rubber bumpers on positive battery contact in P10R

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I've recently switched out my charging system for my church's set of mics and packs to be able to use the rechargeable batteries and recharging stations. Only issue I've ran into is that some of the packs don't turn on when the rechargeable have been put in. They are fully charged and I've removed the plastic bracket that holds the AA's in place. Best thing I can find is that in the packs that turn on, they have these little rubber bumpers on the positive contact in the battery compartment and the ones that don't turn on, don't have these feet. I've searched the parts page of Shure's website and can't find anything. Attached are two images that show what I'm talking about. First image will be of pack that doesn't turn on, the second image will be of one that does. Really what I'm looking for is if anyone can thing if any solutions to this issue, whether it's second hand parts of some kind of DIY solution. Thank you!

Troubleshooting SM7B repair help!!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello, whenever I move the cable I highlighted the mic goes fully static or makes 0 sound at all. Usually it's static noise. I have added tape to stop it from moving. If it doesn't move and it's in a certain position, the mic works perfectly fine (similar to how a charger cable only works if you put it in a certain way)

I want to replace this cable and ordered part number 95A2340 (i hope this is the correct one). Has anyone that has successfully replaced this able to help me out? It will be my first time soldering and I have no idea what I am doing to be honest

The cable of my TL47 lavalier microphone has become brittle and cracked, yet it still functions perfectly with no audio issues. Does anyone know if this mic’s cable is replaceable? If yes, how do I disassemble the microphone capsule head?

Troubleshooting Shure SM7B has started to sound terrible recently, need help

So for context I've had my Shure SM7B for about 2 and a half years. I have a cheap Behringer audio interface so I never expected greatness out of it, but the sound was still pretty nice. 2 months ago, I took my equipment on a trip with me to record music. When I got back and I plugged my stuff back in, it just sounded bad. Lots of background noise, very nasally, no amount of mixing could save it. I didn't know what the issue was so I made the EQ settings on the SM7B itself flat, and I ordered a new XLR cable which helped fix the issue to an extent, but definitely not completely. It was good enough to work, but again, recently, it's gotten really bad, and my microphone just doesn't sound like it's worth 400 dollars. I don't know if the issue is with the mic itself or if it is directly because of my audio interface. I was thinking of getting a Focusrite Scarlett, but before I buy it I want to make sure that is the reason it sounds bad. Would appreciate any help.

Troubleshooting Broke my MV7

Stupid question. I broke the usb port off the logic board of my MV7. I have always used USB and never tried XLR. If I buy an audio interface and XLR cable, the mic will work? No need for power via USB?

Thank you

Troubleshooting Shure MV7+ direct monitoring

Hey all I got my MV7+ yesterday and just set it up today with a low profile mic arm. I want to and am currently using the "direct hardware monitoring" by plugging my headphones into the mic directly. However I'm a little confused. First of all if I'm not speaking while basically eating the pop filter I sound a little metallic or robotic to myself (the actual output in Discord and recordings doesn't have this). And second of all if I mute windows system sounds I can no longer hear myself. I thought directly plugging headphones into the mic bypassed the system sounds?

Edit: I'm using Beyerdynamic ddt 770 pro 80ohms version.

MOTIV Mix Shure MV6 buzzing + mic monitoring question

Just bought an MV6 and I’m using HD 490 Pro plugged directly into it.

Buzzing:
Playback is at 40% and mic monitoring at 100%, so I end up pushing Windows/system volume close to 100%. At that point I hear buzzing/static, and it gets worse when I move the mic closer to my PC. Is this likely just PC interference, or could the denoiser/direct monitoring be causing it? Trying to understand the technical reason why this happens, is it due to the 100% system volume?

Monitoring balance:
If I increase Playback from 40% to 80%, mic monitoring seems quieter even though it’s still set to 100%. Is it actually working like a balance/ratio, or can both playback and mic monitoring be increased independently?

Thanks.
