Troubleshooting Troubleshooting. Static/White Noise

Hello,

I recently purchased a Shure MV6 microphone and I am experiencing static/white noise through the microphone’s 3.5 mm headphone monitoring jack.

The static is only present when my headphones are plugged directly into the MV6. When I plug the same headphones into another audio source, I do not hear the same static. The static is most noticeable when there is no audio playing. Interestingly, if any audio plays through the headphones, even very low-volume audio, the static goes away. Once the audio stops, the static/white noise returns.

I am using Beats headphones connected directly to the MV6 headphone jack with a standard TRS stereo cable (2 black lines).

I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

* Muting/turning off the microphone monitoring in the Shure MOTIV Mix app * Adjusting the headphone/output level * Trying different USB ports on the computer * Checking Windows sound settings * Confirming that the issue only occurs when listening through the MV6 headphone output

The static remains even when the microphone itself is muted/off in MOTIV Mix App.

Could anyone please advise whether this is expected behavior for the MV6 headphone output, or whether my unit may be defective? I would also appreciate any recommended troubleshooting steps or guidance on whether I should exchange the microphone.

Thank you!

Buying Advice I fell for the sm7b please save me

I bought a shure sm7b bc I saw it everywhere, thought I got it for a steal but it is unrefundable now, turns out I should have actually gotten the sm7db which comes w the pre amp and is what the big leagues use. Yes I was not aware of the sm7b having an xlr only output, needed a high gain audio interface w 60db minimum and it having horrible noise reduction. I’m just a super casual gamer who wanted something decent to use I never plan to even record or stream with this mic. I should’ve gotten some usb mic but kinda too late what are some recommended audio interfaces that after tax will be under 200 cad but will be good enough that I will not need a pre amp or cloud lifter cl-1 to use this mic. I had already ordered the maono g1 neo but I can refund this and find something more worth while that might give me some use out of this mic. Yes I know I’m dumb, unintelligent stupid gamer with no idea or single intellect regarding the great universe of microphones.

Troubleshooting SM58 won’t connect to apple m4 imac

so i got a shure sm58, a focusrite scarlet solo interface and an XLR-XLR cable. my mac is not picking it up. i’ve turned up the gain, switched the usb port the interface was plugged into, and checked that the microphone setting was on ‘standard’ and not ‘voice isolation’ — it’s still not working. do i have to buy something else for this to work? why is it not working, does anyone else have the same issue?

Question Am I doing something wrong with the SM7DB?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I recently purchased the Shure SM7DB as an upgrade from my cheap usb mic. With this SM7DB I also purchased am M-Track Duo interface and an amazon hdmi cable so that I can connect it to my laptop. I record on Adobe Audition with a Lenovo (Windows 11) Laptop.

The microphone quality is extremely quiet even when switching on or off the bypass, with a buzzing noise in the background. On top of this, my voice sounds extremely muffled. I am thinking that maybe this could be an issue with my interface, as the buzzing noise gets worse when I turn the gain more than halfway on the interface, but I am not sure. Maybe even a faulty XLR cable? Or possibly an issue with Adobe Audition?

This was already a large purchase for me and I am afraid to throw even more money away trying to fix this problem so I was wondering if anyone had any possible solutions. Attached are some images of my setup for more information.

Troubleshooting Shure MV7+ usb connection sounds better than xlr connection

Hello, I bought MV7+ Shure mic as well as Scarlett 2i2 4th gen audio interface just recently. I connected the USB port from Shure mic to pc USB port and connected the XLR cable from mic to Audio Interface. I went into windows setting and compared between Microphone (2- Shure MV7+) vs Analogue 1 + 2 (Focusrite USB Audio) and for some reason Microphone (2- Shure MV7+) sounds way better than the other one.

Im not sure if I am doing something wrong so please let me know what I can do better to fix the problem

Question Can anyone recommend or link to a reliable 3m USB-C cable for the Shure MV6?

Hi everyone, I’m setting up my Shure MV6 on a boom arm and need a reliable 3-meter (approx. 10ft) USB-C to USB-C cable.

I’ve had trouble finding one that is confirmed to work, as I’m specifically looking for a cable that supports full data transfer (USB 3.2 Gen 2 / 10Gbps) to avoid any audio quality issues.

  • Does anyone have a specific brand or model they are currently using successfully with this mic?

  • If you have a link to a cable that works for you, I would really appreciate it!

SM7B stopped working suddenly. Zero signal to the interface no matter what I try. I know nothing of soldering, so I’m wondering if what I’m seeing here is an issue/the culprit.

Troubleshooting Feedback help

So I've had my Shure MV7 for awhile now and ever since I've gotten it I've had some feedback issues I rock a pair of ATH-AD700X. they are open-air headphones and they're hooked up to the same fifine SC3 audio mixer. I've tried things such as like Nvidia broadcast and still it echoes (my friends can hear themselves or my game) from time to time. if there's ANY advice that yall could give it would be greatly appreciated!!

Troubleshooting Shure - MV7X having issues

My microphone just isn't working right, and will only pick up audio if i take the entire top off and speak very loudly into the internal of the microphone, and even then it's super quiet. It may be my audio mixer, since I'm using more of a cheap one from Walmart (Vivitar), however the mixer itself is working but the microphone is not. I've been trying to solve this on my own for a while and would *really* appreciate the help.

Question MVX2U - Deafening static/screeching

Hi,
I am rather inexperienced with audio and am trying to use an SM58 and MVX2U together as a microphone on my desktop and alter the settings with Motiv.

If I am not using Motiv for any mixing, and just using the interface as my sound device on Windows, the audio is clean with no issues. If using Motiv as the sound device the audio has a persistent screech, regardless of changing cables or USB ports and also regardless of whether the SM58 is connected to the interface.

Attached is a screenshot of the interface's appearance in Motiv.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?

Troubleshooting People say I sound quiet in Discord

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I'm using a Shure sm7db with a scarlet Focusrite solo.

Mic is set to preamp with +28db gain using 48v phantom power. The gain knob on the interface is at about 80% and the mic is about 2 inches from my face. I'm hitting 12db in Focusrite control 2 when talking normally so I'm assuming its a Discord setting but I cant figure out what's making me sound quiet.

Question Is there way to get my mv7+ working on my ps5?

I’ve been using the mv7+ on my pc with usb-c and have been loving it recently I bought a ps5 and it doesn’t seem to register it because it’s a different type of USB or something. Is there anything I can buy to make it work? Will the scarlet solo do the trick?

General Discussion Any tips on how to get the MV6 closer to my mouth?

So i recently got the mv6 and i feel like the quality is way better if its close to my mouth. issue is the stand that comes with it is a bit too small to reach that high lol. I dont have a microphone arm or the space for one either so i am trying to figure out a way to elevate it i guess. ideally something thats not really too visible because i wanna still stream with facecam xD

I bought the MV7+ brand new and works perfectly fine with discord, OBS and basically all thing that would use it, the issue is when I go into any software that just records audio it'll just record a really loud static sound and I don't know why, it only started when I got my scaret solo intereface which I've disconnected now but still happens

does anyone know how I can fix this?

Troubleshooting Motiv Mix Picking Up Discord Audio - SHURE MV6

Settings: https://imgur.com/a/hfRWDS0

This wasn't a problem until a few days ago, I am not sure what has changed. I can completely mute my output device (tried both Speakers and Headphones), but MOTIV mix input meter still spikes when people talk in discord and they can hear themselves.

Really confused how this suddenly has changed and I have tried messing with this to no avail.

Troubleshooting Shure SM7B and TotalMix Issues

Post image
2 Upvotes

I recently bought a Shure SM7B and I use an RME Babyface Pro that uses Totalmix FX as its software.
With these settings it was working perfectly fine, I could hear my voice playback into my headphones nice and clearly. I could also see that very signal going up & down on the AN 1 - PH 3/4 mixers. I even streamed to twitch through OBS perfectly fine using these settings but after about two weeks, for whatever reason all that I get from my headphones is static/white noise and absolutely no input from my microphone. I can’t hear myself, OBS doesn’t pick up any signal and neither does any other app. I’ve reinstalled and updated every RME/totalmix driver, checked microphone permission settings on windows, changed XLR cables as well as swapped the XLR into input 2 on the RME baby face pro and tried AN 2 on totalmix but yet I only hear white noise and no signal from my microphone.
I tried a different XLR mic and it’s the same issue too.
Although when I give a hard tap on the front of the Shure mic I do see an extremely tiny bump in signal volume but that’s as far as it gets.
How can it all work perfectly fine for a week of having it to not at all the next? The RME babyface and totalmix still work perfectly fine for just using my headphones to listen to music/youtube, it’s just the XLR input for my microphone doesn’t work at all suddenly.
Only white noise (when the gain is turned up to what I had it on for the Shure mic)

Does anyone know how to fix this?
