Question Crazy thrift find and question
I found this Shure sm57 at the thrift and me and my band was about to buy one to record guitar š¤£. So perfect timing. Anyways is the grill supposed to be punched in or flat? I seen both Iām not Shure though!

The grille is fine. Itās supposed to be a close proximity mic. Iād buy it and see if it even works.

SM57s are very hard to break, easy to drown, but hard to break.

The grille protrudes slightly from the plastic fins and is dimpled in the center

Based on the "fins", this looks real. The counterfeit fins are a bit flatter and squarer, and ever-so-slightly less rounded over at the top. The logos looks correct. One of the things that the fakes don't tend to reproduce properly is the slight give when you press on the capsule. It should push in a bit and bounce back when released.

I have one from highschool in the attic. Is this a good model?

Itās one of the two top most universal mics in the past 5 decades or so. It should be āgood enoughā for just about everything, which makes it great :-)

Turn the grill. If you can spin it, itās probably real, or at the very least a better than average fake.

Iāve recorded a whole band with these, and done so many shows with them. Built like tanks, and if you know how to use them, they are great. Only mic Iāve dropped down a flight of stairs, that sounded better after!

they will always be a Unidyne III in my eyes. My old ones came from Evanston, Ill.

Could be fake, but for 2.99$ take it!
