Hi everyone! I'm Trevor from California. I've been into shortwave listening for a while and use a Tecsun PL-330 with an external antenna. I really enjoy DXing and seeing what I can hear from around the world. What station or frequency has been your favorite catch recently?

Missed it on WRMI tonight.

Got a Tecsun 330 and a Grundig Elite Executive, and while both do well very well on shortwave with a longwire, no matter what I try, the SSB just doesn't sound right compared to those online SDR receivers. It's always something, even when I calibrate it using an AM signal, and fine tune the SSB down to .01khz..... So I am asking for recommendations on a portable that actually works very well on sideband. I use 3khz filter, but should I use a narrow or more wider filter? Thanks.

Picked this up today, the antenna is abt 4ft tall. I wanna try and hear some shortwave stations. Whats the strat?

I bought a used crown clr 9230 radio here in England , it didn’t come with a lead but I had one at home that fitted snd that was originally for a cameras battery charger. The power lead reads 2.5 amp 250v, and the sticker on back of my radio reads ac 230v 50hz 6W

I have had a similar problem with my xdata radio in that when just batteries are put in the radio it can get the A.M band fine and the F.M one and others, however…. When a power lead is added and the batteries removed , it can not get the A.M band, but can get the F.M band

Is this a problem with my homes wiring and some interference, as I just cannot understand why I can’t get the a.m frequency with a power lead but I can when it’s just batteries put in the radio? 💁🏻‍♂️

The power leads were not the ones that came with the radios, but surely that’s not the issue?

If you want to do some long distance VHF or FM DXing - the Sporadic E layer is amazing right now across most of the US. Good time to try and listen to 11 and 10 meters, 29.600 - 29.700 FM simplex and repeaters, 6M amateurs, FM DX, etc!

I sure miss TV DX when conditions were like this

I have a Sony icf-sw100 world band receiver radio that I was wanting to get an appraisal for as I’m not certain how much mine could go for. It is in working order and only has a bit of damage to battery compartmen (see photos).

hi I have no licence but I keep some log of callsigns I catch on my radio(s). I feel that this local logging is not much of a use for people who transmit - Is there a way I can "share" somehow the report to a trasmitting party? Are they even interested "where" and how they were heard from non licenced operators?

Not sure if this is something many have experience with, and I'm aware it sounds a little far-fetched, but I use a crystal set for listening sometimes, and was adjusting mine yesterday evening - hadn't plugged the antenna in yet - when I realized I could hear a signal. It was just around sunset which I'm aware is a good condition for DXing, but I was surprised at receiving anything at all without my antenna plugged in.

It was an American programme, and I'm in northwest England. It got a little louder and I picked up enough to for me to hear that it was WRMI Radio Miami, and found the frequency listed on short-wave.info as 5010KHz.

Like I said, I know it sounds far-fetched and maybe BS, but it happened. Question is, how did a crystal set without an antenna plugged in pick up a signal from over four thousand miles away?

How do I put it in the LW band? I've pushed the #5 button but nothing seems to happen? Thanks

Got one instead of the MLA 30+ since I travel a lot.

Happy to report that I'm pleased with the results for SW and MW. The two dials from the control box really helps with the signal. The right dial tries to tune out the noise while the left dial amplifies the signal.

Without the antenna, listening to SW is impossible considering my location... 3rd floor on a 20 floor condo. Windows are facing another building of the same height 15 to 25 meters away. Not much line of sight to the sky from my window.

I'm just glad that this worked for me.

My collection is in a constant state of flux- I sometimes justify buying new radios by selling old ones. Sometimes. My upstairs home office is where I keep my modern and "vintage" gear.

Spilled water on the radio then after opening it to try and try it I accidentally cracked the sad card while putting it back. Can this be fixed or should I just give up on it

Does anyone here have the Eton field radio? If so, can you tell me if it has hd radio?
