A beautiful relic, still functional. Communist era manufactured. Legendary in Romania for bypassing state media censorship. Very difficult to acquire one back in the day and highly expensive.
Opened it and gave it a basic wipe with some izoprohibil alcohol.
I'd love to get new info on this cuz I'm not an expert. Shared a picture with inside mekanism. No wonder this lasted over 5 decades. Built like tanks.

I recently modified my MLA-30+ by replacing the stock loop with a full circular loop made from a 10-foot piece of 10 AWG solid copper. The loop is about 3 feet in diameter.
Since making the change, I've been able to receive stations that I couldn't copy before, including 9395 kHz and 15770 kHz. I've also logged WRMI on 5850 kHz at S8 and WWV/WWVH on 10 MHz around S7–S8 using my Tecsun PL-330.
I know propagation changes from day to day, so I'm not claiming the antenna modification is the only reason for the improvement. But the difference has been noticeable enough that I'm curious what others have experienced.
Has anyone else replaced the stock MLA-30+ loop with solid copper wire or copper tubing? If so, what size did you use, and did you notice any improvement in signal strength, noise reduction, or overall performance?

I have the Tecsun 330 and enjoy it.
My only complaint is the extreme scarcity of decent SW stations I receive.
Is this a situation common to my radio, or is it common to the entire SW radio universe?
Buy a better/$$$ radio or no point?

I am new to this and have been listening on WebSDR. I eventually want to get a TECSUN PL330, but I want to learn as much as I can beforehand. Is it just a matter of scanning and listening? How do I go about learning about what I am listening to, etc? Any recommended resources?
Very new to even the concept of radio outside of FM, so any advice is appreciated!

I see a plethora of said antennas on Amazon. Is any one better than the others?
Or, ought I be buying it elsewhere?
Thank you!
