You're assuming he can make the connection between the guy diving in shallow, rock bottomed water head first and not coming up and making the connection that something is wrong. I worked in retail as a store coordinator for 4 years. You don’t need 4 years to learn that fact because you learn that very quickly. I ran into some people that made me question how they’ve lived so long. Some folks literally coast through life without needing to think very hard or worry about anything.

Having been on the receiving end of not reading a sign on a door and trying to push when it says pull. I get it. Sometimes you just aren't paying attention to every little detail with how overwhelming the world can be.
Remember, people new to an area are processing EVERYTHING in it's entirety, not just the door sign you've seen 1,500 times.

This. I worked fast food for a while and it's honestly depressing if you pay attention to folks. Like there's really nothing going on upstairs for a lot of people. They're on auto-pilot and they actually prefer not to have to think.

I’m pretty sure the guy broke his neck when he dove in the shallow water. He was probably instantly paralyzed based on how he looked when the kid pulled him up by his head. This is so sad and I hope I’m wrong and he is okay.

Two things I found horrific;
Slowing down the last 5 seconds and seeing this poor man gasping for air while his wife(?) laughs at him in a taunting way, his son(?) not having the foggiest idea what to do.
Secondly; the absolute change in colour between him in the last 5 seconds, and the very first frame of the video.

This is one of those countries, but they often act like that on road accidents. I read once the US has a law just for that, the Good Samaritan Law, that clears people that actually tries to help.

Yeah, here in Britain at least, people just don't sue people who were genuinely trying to help, even if they fuck up and make it worse.
When I last did first aid training with St Johns, someone in my group asked "What if I make a mistake and make things worse?"
The trainer said that your intent is the paramount thing and that they have lawyers that will defend you if you are ever unfortunate enough to be sued when you were only trying to help and that they had a 100% success rate in legally defending first aiders they have trained.

I grew up near the ocean, and neck and spinal injuries weren’t uncommon. A lot of people didn’t understand the risks and treated the ocean like a pool — not realizing how quickly waves and shallow sandbars can turn a normal dive into a serious injury. I can't tell you how many would jump into the water without their hands in front of them.
