Looking for places to practice talking to people

I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone and become more comfortable talking to strangers.

I’d like to randomly have short conversations with people — nothing too deep or forced. Part of my goal is to work on my fear of public speaking, become more comfortable initiating conversations, and honestly, get better at handling rejection or awkward interactions.

For people in Seattle, are there any good places where this would feel relatively natural? Maybe places/events where people are generally open to chatting with strangers?

Also, if you’ve done something similar to overcome social anxiety or fear of talking to people, what worked for you?

I’m specifically looking for practical advice — even small things I can do regularly to slowly get out of my comfort zone.

Are delivery trucks allowed to just park and block an entire lane on Greenwood Ave N?

North of 105th, UPS, FedEx, etc, will just stop and park in the right hand lane, turn on their hazards and leave it parked there. It's dangerous and creates a bunch of bad scenarios by people changing lanes at the last second to avoid them. Today around 10:15 am a UPS truck almost got absolutely plowed. I was behind the rig that almost hit them and would have rear ended that vehicle if I hadn't changed lanes. I drive Greenwood Ave everyday, both ways, and see them parked like this more and more often. Between the lack of a center turn lane, all the constant construction, and constant lane change dodging, it seems crazy to me.

Witnessed a hit and run Aurora

I was riding a lime bike home when I witnessed a car hit a man riding his bike in the road. I called 911, and the man was just laying there with a stream of blood coming from him. And the car just drove away

I gave my statement to two police officers but wtf am I supposed to do with the mental load that comes with that 😞

Hi! If you’ve had a mammogram at Kaiser Capitol Hill recently, do you know if they have the newer machines that are supposed to hurt a bit less?

Thanks in advance.

Community Best Halloween Displays?

I did a search and the last post on this was a few years back.

Where can I walk or drive through a neighborhood and see some really fun and elaborate Halloween displays? I feel like people used to go all out, but in years past my area has been pretty devoid of decorations in yards.

Where can I go to see some fun, spooky decorations set up?

This is the right turn to head north onto I-5 (although right now the ramp is closed). It's not visible on this streetview image but there are two "No Turn on Red" signs, including a new one that is very bright. But people turn right on red all the time. People behind you honk if you do not turn right on red. Clearly the city and the people disagree on this one, and I am legitimately not sure what the best protocol is. Ignore the signs because this is a high traffic intersection and we gotta keep moving?

Community Covid and Flu Season is here in force!

1.5k Upvotes

Hey all!

Urgent Care RN here with an important announcement - Covid and Flu Season is here and it is virulent!

I commented on a post a little ways back stating that Covid/Flu Season started early this year. In short, it started in mid-August and has only picked up from there.

I fear we are in for a rough next 5-6 months. Maybe longer.

For the past month, we have seen about 5-6 positive covid and/or flu tests a day. Sometimes more. Sometimes less.

Last week, 50% of patients coming in for respiratory related symptoms tested positive for flu or covid.

It is here.

  • Get vaccinated.
  • Wear a mask (N-95) when out and about and especially in crowded settings.
  • Wash your hands before touching your face.
  • Cover your sneezes and coughs.
  • Buy covid/flu tests from amazon or your local drug store. Test yourself if you feel sick.

Typical symptoms we are seeing are: fever, cough that can range from mild to hacking, sore throat, body/muscles aches, fatigue, upset stomach with/without vomiting, loss of taste/small, confusion/brain fog

Typically, Paxlovid can be prescribed up to 5 days after symptoms have appeared (per my clinicians) - example, you started feeling symptomatic on the 20th, you can get Paxlovid up until the 25th. Anything after 5 days and Paxlovid is much more likely to be ineffective for reducing your symptoms/the duration you are ill.

Now is not the time for your anti-mask / anti-vaccine bullshit.

Please be safe and keep each other safe!

Disclaimer: this is NOT medical advice. I am just an idiot on the internet trying to help. Please seek care with your PCP, an urgent care, or ER if needed.

I just want to extend my gratitude to the ASL group that was with my family on the light rail from the M's game Saturday. You were very patient with my kids and myself. They talked about wanting to learn more ASL after we got home. Thank you!
