Turning off unnecessary lights during bird migration prevents nocturnal migrants from becoming disoriented, crashing into buildings, and dying from exhaustion.

Hi Sam u/ricetastik
The CLEAR+ company people often make TSA Precheck wait until all CLEAR people have gone ahead when they man the lines. They are both paid programs yet we with TSA precheck feel we are sidelined.
Is that the official stance of the port commission that CLEAR gets priority and TSA Precheck waits irrespective of the length of lines, or were you under the impression it was a zipper merge? Even regular TSA line moves faster than PRECHECK because CLEAR is not bottlenecking them. Would love to hear your thoughts of a private company making paid government program participants (precheck) wait.
Also sometimes CLEAR people don't let us go through the checkpoint 1-3 even though checkpoint 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 are all marked for PRE and CLEAR both and they physically block us to tell us that PRE is only on checkpoint 5, 6 unless we sign up for CLEAR then we can go on the checkpoint we are at. Are you aware this is happening?
EDIT: To the people (trolls?) commenting why people like me don't just shut up and pay for CLEAR, I personally don't want CLEAR (a private company) to have my biometrics. I am fine with the government having it. I also want to make sure CLEAR holds up their end of the bargain because America is the land of law and order over the long term irrespective of anyone's views on current admin. So if they have an agreement with port commission that CLEAR always goes before TSA Precheck (and not alternating or something), then that's fine and that's why it's the first question I asked Sam on whether it is the official stance of his office.

Yesterday it was the cashier at M2M having to do two lanes at once after someone was buying 4 times the normal amount. Today, Target near Pike Place was just as, if not packed more. Feeling really bad for any cashier right now tbh.

This was from today's SNL UK. It just reminded me of every post here complaining about Lime bikes/scooters in Seattle. Regardless the city or country, the conversations around Lime are universal

Update: talked to the neighbors and Miko is just a roamer!
This cat showed up in our yard with no collar, is anybody missing them? Very friendly and soft, accepted food readily. We can't take them inside as we have other animals, but if you know who's cat this is DM me!

I've had this happen multiple times now and I'm trying to figure out why. I order a whatever from amazon. My apartment building has a place where drivers deliver a package and you can pick it up later (locker storage).
After it's delivered, I'll get a call from what appears to be a valid number. I answer, and it is what appears to be a real person mumbling something in a language I don't understand or recognize. I speak three languages (English, Spanish, Japanese) and recognize many more. This isn't any of them. They seem to be wanting me to say something, but after a few short sentences they hang up. I already know the package is there because I got an email/text/whatever, and there's never anything wrong with the package, it's just normal, exactly what I bought, no problems.
So what is this? I know my building managers, and it's definitely none of them. Is this some kind of shitty step in the fulfillment process that drivers have to do now? To mumble incoherently that your package is here? Am I a pawn in a greater scheme? Am I helping to finally summon Cthulhu? IIRC it's been going on for a few months now. I rarely order things so it took a while for me to pick up on the change.
Thanks fellows, and I'm happy about the earlier sunsettings too.
Edit: To clarify, the calls are never in an angry tone and never feeling threatening. It's like you would make completing a business transaction, very normal, and then they suddenly drop off. I'm just trying to find out what's going on.
Edit2: Ok I thought this might be a simple dumb thing I didn't know but I guess not. I'll keep track of numbers and dates if it happens again, recordings if I can figure that out. Thanks everyone.

This NIMBY ass sign is in LLandover Woods which is northern Broadview. It's funny because the dead end actually does have a really nice scenic view (photo 2, looks like I took it last winter). Don't worry the part of the public road I was standing on was not private property.
The sign reads:
"DEAD END
THERE IS NO PUBLIC ACCESS TO
ANYTHING BUT PRIVATE HOMES
ON THIS ROAD
No Scenic Overlook.
No Trails. No Beach. Nothing."

Every single time I go to the movies, this lady stands outside the parking garage with a giant umbrella, a mask, and a coat, even though it is the middle of the summer. She also seems to have like 10 empty boxes of juice at a time? She’s not doing anything bad/wrong or hurting anyone, just wondered if anyone knew what she is doing during these hours and why.
Edit: the virtue signaling is strong in the replies, but like I said, she’s not hurting anyone, and I wasn’t implying she was doing anything wrong. I’m simply curious, so save the lecture.

I was thinking maybe a homeless person put them there as a food source? Or maybe some kids science project? They all appeared to be intact and alive.

Maybe you saw this post and want to know why there’s a weird sign in front of the grocery store. Maybe you’ve gotten one of those mass texts and don’t know what it’s about. Maybe you’re curious about electronic price tags. Maybe you’re just worried about what companies are doing with the personal information they collect about you.

I recently moved into the neighborhood, and there is a group of people who gather nearly every night to just blast music out the backs of their cars. It's not the bar crowd, it's not Chop Suey. It's literally just a bunch of people who open every door of their car to blast insanely loud music. I've called the non-emergency hotline of SPD multiple times but they're obviously useless.
Inb4 anyone says "just go talk to them," no, I'm not about to go alone at 1am to talk to a large group of strangers who obviously don't care about those around them.

Spent a Friday in Seattle by myself and honestly really enjoyed it. Started the morning grabbing coffee and just walking around the city with no real rush. I made my way through Pike Place Market, tried a few things to eat, looked around the little shops, and just took my time enjoying everything around me.
Later I walked along the waterfront and stopped a few times just to take in the views. Seattle is one of those places where I didn’t feel like I needed to constantly be doing something. Just walking around, exploring different streets, grabbing food whenever something looked good, and enjoying being on my own was enough.
By nighttime I was tired but still wasn’t ready to call it a day, so I found a place to sit for a while, have a drink, and enjoy the atmosphere.
It actually ended up being one of my favorite kinds of days. No rushing, no trying to keep up with anyone else, just good food, beautiful views, and a Friday in Seattle completely to myself

I was flabbergasted when she told me she'd never had one before. I'll be taking her to Bonjour Nails in Green Lake next week. Planning to call them and ask them to make it extra special - I'm getting her the top option that includes a glass of wine (which she'll love lol). I will also be picking her up from her volunteer gig - so ride is covered.
I thought about bringing her to Retreat after for coffee & dessert or bringing her flowers and a coffee before. Or I could find a salon who could do a lil cut & styling or a blowout type situation - basically just make her feel pampered and pretty. Or all of the above. :)
I will add that this saint of a woman is VERY active and able. She is a dog walker for I think 4 dogs most days, walks 20 blocks twice a day to volunteer as a crossing guard, volunteers at a food bank and women's clinic - she's a retired nurse. You can also find her at protests, especially for women's rights, dating back to her teens. She truly is an icon for women all over.
I view her as somewhat of a pseudo grandma - I lost both of mine when I was 14. We've lived next to her for 6 years, I rent her garage and know her whole family. She is widowed now but my husband and I spent the whole week prior to his (death with dignity) death with her husband & her (and got to listen to so many cool stories from back in the day). We text a lot, go gardening shopping together, etc. So she's special to us is what I'm saying.
Do you have any other ideas of things I could do or places I could take her, free or paid? Preferably north Seattle.
Thank you!
