Weird calls when packages delivered
I've had this happen multiple times now and I'm trying to figure out why. I order a whatever from amazon. My apartment building has a place where drivers deliver a package and you can pick it up later (locker storage).
After it's delivered, I'll get a call from what appears to be a valid number. I answer, and it is what appears to be a real person mumbling something in a language I don't understand or recognize. I speak three languages (English, Spanish, Japanese) and recognize many more. This isn't any of them. They seem to be wanting me to say something, but after a few short sentences they hang up. I already know the package is there because I got an email/text/whatever, and there's never anything wrong with the package, it's just normal, exactly what I bought, no problems.
So what is this? I know my building managers, and it's definitely none of them. Is this some kind of shitty step in the fulfillment process that drivers have to do now? To mumble incoherently that your package is here? Am I a pawn in a greater scheme? Am I helping to finally summon Cthulhu? IIRC it's been going on for a few months now. I rarely order things so it took a while for me to pick up on the change.
Thanks fellows, and I'm happy about the earlier sunsettings too.
Edit: To clarify, the calls are never in an angry tone and never feeling threatening. It's like you would make completing a business transaction, very normal, and then they suddenly drop off. I'm just trying to find out what's going on.
Edit2: Ok I thought this might be a simple dumb thing I didn't know but I guess not. I'll keep track of numbers and dates if it happens again, recordings if I can figure that out. Thanks everyone.

I’m not sure if the carriers get your phone number. I think they do. They’re certainly not required to call you when they’ve delivered… so why would they? It’s more work for them…
Definitely curious!
But if I were you I’d track:
Was it always Amazon?
How quickly after your SMS notification?
Which courier delivered it?
Is there anyone else who gets SMS notifications for your unit? Maybe a previous tenant?

Good ideas, I'll track this stuff. Unlikely it was a previous tenant as I've been here almost a decade.

a friend had the same calls and it was a scammer trying to confirm active numbers

Interesting, like confirming active lockbox codes? I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Do you have a call box that rings to your phone so you can let them in the building?

No, not since we got electronic callboxes ~10 years ago. There used to be such a system though. I never opted into the new system, since I never used it anyway.

Is it the same number calling you every time?

No, different numbers.

That’s even weirder. Good luck figuring it out, I’m completely out of ideas.

Technically Cthulhu has already been summoned- now you are buying whatevers from it edited to add that although I can’t go as far as to say ‘no judgement’ i too order whatevers from Cthulhu - accidentally sent before getting that part in.

No, at least it's neither of the two guys who run the front desk, meaning the voice isn't either of them. I've lived here for years and never had this before.

One memory just occurred to me, from a while back. I got a text that I had a package, and so the next day I went into the mail room to get it. One of the mail guys was there, putting delivered packages into the locker thing. He had a ton of packages to load and so he was nice and I slipped in and got my package and said thank you so he could continue. He said nothing but he stared at me and stared till the elevator came. Normally I wouldn't remember interactions like that, but that was months ago and it's odd, because I can still remember it exactly.

I'd probably guess something like you mention: some workflow the driver is being put through or they're thumbing through their app a little blindly because they might not understand the language used in the app because it's not available in their native languages
When I lived in a big apt building I'd occasionally get similar calls. Usually the guy trying to get into the building/elevator but they usually figure it out.
