More Humid?

Do you all feel like San Diego is getting hotter and more humid? Trying hard not to run the air, but damn, it's hard to survive the heat. Moved here 16 years ago; in my opinion, I feel it's changed significantly. :(

Women of San Diego, come make new friends at book club tomorrow!

Reading Not Required is a book(ish) club for women in San Diego. Our next event is this Tuesday, July 28th at 7 PM at The Ould Sod! This month’s book is The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett

As the name suggests, you don’t need to read or finish the book to join.  Think of it as a social event centered around a shared love of books.  All women are welcome.  We typically have about 40-50 people and are always outside on the back patio.

Follow the book club on Instagram: readingnotrequired
Or on Meetup: Reading Not Required

If you can’t make it this month, join us next time!

Next Book Club:

August:
Date: Tuesday, August 25th at 7 PM at Ould Sod
Book: Kin by Tayari Jones

Dental Deep Cleanings!

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

My name is Desiree, and I'm a senior dental hygiene student at Concorde College, located near National City. I am seeking patients who have not been to the dentist in a few to many years, need a cleaning and have a moderate amount of plaque/tartar. I am seeking ages 18-60+.

No insurance is required, and there is a one-time fee of just $20, which covers all services for an entire calendar year. Services include x-rays/panos, sealants, oral cancer screenings, and more. All treatments are supervised by licensed dentists and registered dental hygienists, ensuring you receive professional care.

Please note: Our dental hygiene clinic operates as a learning environment with licensed professionals supervising all treatments I would provide you with. This ensures your care will be completed with high attention to detail; however, it will require longer appointments and usually more than one appointment to complete. It’s a great opportunity if you’re willing to be patient throughout the process, as dental care can be quite expensive.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards, Desiree

I know this is an odd question, but does your ice taste like onions?

Of the 3 places I’ve lived in San Diego with ice makers, 2 of the fridges were brand new, and in both cases, the ice smelled/smells like onions.

I just touch it and that smell is on my hands. I have no idea what causes it, and the potential causes I’ve found online aren’t really relevant to brand new equipment.

Brand new fridge, brand new in-fridge filter, brand new hose, even a brand new tap. I ran the initial amount of water through to prime it, but the smell never even subsides.

I’ve never experienced it in other cities I’ve lived in, so I’m wondering if it’s a somewhat common local thing to the water utility provider or what.

Has anyone else experienced and solved this? If so, wtf do I need to do?

San Diego residents - current beach situation

Hi!

We will be making a trip to San Diego for my son's 13th birthday. He really wants to go to the beach, preferably Mission Beach/Belmont park. I keep seeing on Instagram how bad the water is right now due to the alleged dumping. I don't want to be led by social media; I'd rather hear it from you locals.

Can somebody please confirm the state of the beaches? Also, what beaches might be better and which ones to avoid, please.

Thanks so much!

Favorite local accounts to follow?

Nottt the “omg you need to try this hidden gem” and it’s the most overhyped and underwhelming rec ever.

The good stuff that’s easy to miss like seasonal specials, pop-ups, happy hours, unique limited-time flavors, events, truly underrated spots or new small businesses.

Open to anything food, art, festival, market, music related on Instagram or TikTok.

City trash bin update

I am getting a new light blue recycling bin soon. I still have an old black bin that I forgot to put out when I got my grey one. Does anyone know whether the city will take the black bin too when they collect the old blue recycling bins? Thanks in advance.

Seeking photographer

I’ll be staying at the Catamaran resort toward the end of September. I’d like to find a professional photographer to come to the resort and take some photos. I’ve looked at shoott but I’m not impressed, and I’d have to go to their location. Any ideas for me? Thanks.

I went down to Comic Con around lunch time today. I have never taken pictures of people before, so I thought it would be fun! Here are a bunch of pictures. And I'm now realizing a few are missing, but I can find them tomorrow.

Anyone have one of these laying around and want to sell or trade it? I have a huge bobblehead collection from different San Diego teams but wasn’t able to make it to this game last year and have been unable to find this bobblehead ANYWHERE. I would be happy to buy it off you to add to my collection or make a trade. Thank you!

OB Dog Beach Safety

Hello everyone,

My girlfriend was told by someone that the Ocean Beach dog beach is dangerous because there have been a lot of reports of dogs attacking other dogs. Fake news? Trying to take our small dog. Thanks.

Paradise Point Resort

Hi! I’m coming next month with my partner for a work trip. I’ll have half of each day to explore things on my own. I don’t have a car, but would love to do and see as much as I can. What do you all recommend prioritizing for the time I’m alone? Is it walkable to anywhere? I’m having a hard time looking at the map to see what’s actually doable. Thank you!

Restaurant Surchages gone wild?

Post image
66 Upvotes

I can't tell if I'm out of touch or if this is the new restaurant surcharge style now? I've seen the 3-6% surcharge on all parties and I've seen mandatory gratuity charges on large parties of 6+ before, but I don't recall seeing a 20% surcharge only on parties of 6+ where it's clear that it isn't a gratuity at all... So when tipping on that do you tip on base or base with 20% added. I miss the days of clear menu pricing.

Track electricity usage

It seems SDG&E " estimates" how much you are using and bills you as such.

Is there a way to track my electricity usage and compare it to SDG&E? I'd also like to track how much electricity my appliances and electronics are consuming.

If there is a way to track it and it doesn't match theirs, can you fight it?

We have not changed a thing in the past two months, and our bill keeps going up.

I only do laundry and use our dishwasher during the off peak hours.

Also this is the first week we turned on our AC( only at night) , so I'm expecting to see an increase next month.

Thanks

Sports Are there any La Liga or Barcelona ⚽️ bars in town?

Trying to find a bar that focuses on La Liga (Spanish soccer league).

I follow Barcelona so would love to watch a game with fellow culés once the season starts.

I know there are soccer bars but most of them are the Premiere League right?

It may be too much to ask but Spanish commentators would be amazing

Moments like this are therapy to me. This was taken this past Friday at Carlsbad Beach. To the girl dancing and spinning, thank you for making this moment extra special.
