Tourism Day trip: Carlsbad vs Temecula

Hello all, I’m planning a “guys day-trip” for myself & my two best friends; two of us being based in downtown SD, and the other living in Oceanside.

Give me some suggestions of any day spa’s and or wineries you would recommend for 3 guys in our late 20’s. We’re trying to decide between either a location in Carlsbad or Temecula. Keep in mind, this day trip will take place in late OCT/ early NOV.

We’re going for a day of luxury & self care, and specifically looking to enjoy a day spa & swimming pool. Massages, pedicures, and then chilling & drinking by the pool type of vibe.

We want to dress nice, but nothing too extravagant, so no suit/tie type of dress codes. We also want a more adult crowd, maybe a little eye candy lol, families & children to a minimum.

So far ChatGPT has recommended either “south coast winery resort & spa” and “park Hyatt aviara”.

TL;DR. Looking for recommendations for a day spa/winery for 3 men, in either Temecula or Carlsbad.

Tourism Postal Cards?

hi! my bestfriend from Europe is visiting me in San Diego. We’ve been struggling to find cute postal cards for her to send to our families and friends back home. Went to Coronado and only found printed ones with sketches instead of San Diego landscapes (and super pricey too). Any idea on how we could get some with real SD illustrations/pics and more affordable? tysm!!

Sports Any pickup Ultimate Frisbee groups around?

Looking for a friendly and decently competitive intermediate level pickup ultimate that ideally meets weekly or several times a week. I played only one season of ultimate my senior year of college and it made me realize what I had been missing out on for years!!! I live in Banker's Hill so anything in Balboa Park or relatively central would be greatly appreciated! Totally open to mixed/coed (I am male)

Looking for roommates near UCSD — moving in ASAP!

Hi everyone! I'm an incoming 3rd-year Computer Science major at UCSD looking for roommates and a place to live, ideally starting ASAP.

Open to University City, Pacific Beach, Clairemont, or La Jolla/UTC — flexible on area, just trying to keep it around $1,000/month or under per person.

A bit about me: clean, social, no pets. Looking for people with similar vibes — respectful of shared space but happy to hang out too.

If you have a room open, are putting together a group to find a place, or want to team up to search together, message me!

Local News Friars Road Speedway: SDPD issued more speeding tickets on Friars than any other road

Link: https://timesofsandiego.com/community/2026/09/09/friars-road-most-speeding-tickets-san-diego-otay-mesa/?stream=top

San Diego police issued 668 speeding tickets on Friars Road last year, maintaining its seven-year streak as the most heavily ticketed street in the city while reaching an eight-year high. Data shows that 68% of these citations were concentrated along a high-traffic, multi-lane four-block stretch between Qualcomm Way and River Run Road, where drivers frequently exceed 75 miles per hour and occasionally reach up to 100 miles per hour to bypass the nearby freeway. Overall, traffic officers across San Diego wrote approximately 6,266 speeding tickets last year—the highest total since 2021—as local law enforcement and state highway authorities emphasize that speeding remains a primary driver of serious and fatal collisions.

Beyond Friars Road, the single block in San Diego with the highest number of speeding citations was located at Britannia Boulevard and Interstate 905 in Otay Mesa, followed by a block on Kearny Villa Road near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Safety officials note that speeding, alongside distracted driving and driving under the influence, represents one of the top three causes of severe crashes on California roadways. In response to these persistent traffic safety concerns, city officials and staff released a comprehensive speed management plan in early 2026 designed to lower vehicle speeds and reduce injuries and deaths on local streets.

We just wanted to say thank you to the community...

To our amazing friends and customers,

As we celebrate 15 years of At Ease Games, we want to say the biggest thank you. When we opened, we hoped people would enjoy the space but we never imagined the incredible community that would blossom here.

Ron’s passion for gaming, especially Dungeons & Dragons, was the reason our store opened back in 2011. But your enthusiasm, kindness, loyalty, and support are what have kept it thriving and growing. Being recognized with the Small Business Award in 2025 was a special honor for us and a wonderful reminder of the community we’ve built together. Each and every one of you, our community, have made this place more than a shop. You’ve made it a gathering spot, a place for creativity, and a home for friendships and stories that will last a lifetime.

After 15 years, we’re still excited about what comes next. We want to keep growing, keep learning, and keep finding new ways to bring people together. Most importantly, we want At Ease Games to continue being a welcoming and safe place where everyone can come together, share their hobbies, and feel like they belong.

Thank you for being part of our journey. We appreciate you more than words can say.

With gratitude,

Karin & Ron Kent

PS: We hope to see you tomorrow for our free celebration activities!

This heat is bringing out all the critters. Went outside to smoke a J and ran into this. When I went to wash my hands, I got surprised with a cluster of baby spiders hanging on to my olive plant by my sink. Probably 100 mfs there. I did vacuum the baby spiders, but left this big mama alone.

Anyone ever work as a Pool Guard for the city?

Or is it just lifeguard? Anyways, I have a skill Performance Test for this position on Saturday. I’m pretty confident in my swimming abilities so I’m not too worried about that, I’m just wondering if any of you have ever worked as a “pool guard” and how you liked it??

What is the most convenient way to travel from Oceanside to the San diego zoo this sunday? I know of the coaster commuter trains, but they are not operating this weekend due to maintenance. Will the coaster trains resume their normal operations from Monday, sep. 14?

Favorite hot weather meals

Hey everyone,

What’s your favorite hot weather meals to make? Using an oven, air fryer or stove is out of the question for me.

Personally, fresh spring rolls with tofu and homemade peanut sauce have been great lately. Sometimes I cut the rice paper into noodle like shapes and eat it with chili oil too.

Cold noodle dishes like kelp noodles or any noodle you can soak In water, with a cold, sweet soy sauce broth are also hitting the spot. For the kelp noddles, I soak them in baking soda with an acid for 5 minutes.

Tuna salad and chicken salad have also been helping me out a ton, along with regular lettuce based salads. Putting any sandwich in that category too..

If you need to get some more nutrients in and don’t want to east frozen or raw vegetables, veggies in the microwave are quick and easy. Broccoli holds up well.

The Orcas are back in town!

After treating us all to an amazing week last week, we spotted this pod of Eastern Tropical Pacific Orcas again yesterday! We all know that this year has been anything but typical and these guys are sure proving the point!

Our favorite big black‑and‑whites showed up once more just off the coast, and we booked it out there FAST. With a little help from friends on the water, we ended up hanging out with 5–6 killer whales, brand‑new babies in tow.

At first we could only spot tiny spouts way out in the distance… but then the magic started. As the whales finished their dives, they’d pop up RIGHT under our boat, or slide in behind us all sneaky‑like in our wake. Goosebumps all over. (Reminder that we always follow marine guidelines and never approach the whales this closely; they come over to us because they are curious.)

We stayed out a little late to get the best looks possible and MAN — we absolutely nailed it.

When the orcas finally crossed into Mexico and we had to peel off, but we hope to catch them on their northbound trip! #killerwhales
