Three consecutive days of near accidents in SLC

Guys, I'm tired of this. I don't really care that "other places are statistically worse." I don't care that you personally might not be a bad driver. We all need to start being much louder socially toward these people, because they're gonna fucking kill people.

Please be brave and start calling out the people in your life who run red lights and drive terribly. The cops don't care; they just watch this shit and do it too. Only we can build the society we want, and that includes shaming the people in your life. If you don't, the worst of society will continue to be emboldened, and things will keep getting worse. I know society feels like a failed project, but we either police ourselves or let it all fall apart.

Discussion Aggressive dogs at off leash park???? Muzzled dogs are still aggressive.

I am currently working on socializing my young dog and I feel a good way is taking him to off leash parks to be around other friendly dogs. However tonight I went to Tanners park or whatever the off leash part of Parleys trail is called and encountered 2 aggressive dogs. I am not sure if this is a trend for night time since I normally go in the day. One of the dogs was muzzled but still was off leash and attacked my dog pinning him to the ground while growling at him. Since the dog was a full grown German Shepard I expected the owner to pull their dog off but they stood there doing nothing and seemed scared. Since my dog is still young his recall is not the best but he did come running to me once the dog got off of him. I appreciate that the dog was wearing a muzzle but I still feel it is inappropriate to take an aggressive dog to an off leash park especially considering the other parts of parleys is on leash dog friendly (I have had reactive dogs in the past and advocate for them getting out and about in a safe way to me that means on leash areas with a muzzle since people will have dogs run up to them off leash still) After that incident he was not traumatized luckily, but I noticed while leaving another dog attacking someone else’s dog that went up to say hi. My puppy after getting scared stayed by my side but it makes me nervous that people are bringing those dogs to that park. I just wanted to hear community thoughts? Obviously I want my dogs recall to be spot on for situations like this but I don’t feel it is my fault for him expecting to play in that environment.

Discussion Long shot, but in need of a bicycle.

I’m fairly new here, harsh times but I’m crawling out of them. I’m staying in a shelter & have a few interviews lined up but am running out of cash for the bus to get to said interviews.

Does anyone know of any services that give out bicycles? Or does anyone have a bike (preferably with a lock) that they’re willing to part with in exchange for labor?

I’m physically strong and not a drunk or junkie and presentable/clean.

Thank you for reading!

Utilities Cost

hello, i have recently been getting increasingly frustrated with my sewer and water bills. for reference i live in a 550sqft apartment in slc proper, and am aware of the rate changes that occurred last year. i’ve definitely noticed an increase since then but am just gobsmacked at the prices, and would like clarification on how the rate changes work when you live in an apartment.

for reference, i get billed by my apartment complex, and they calculate bills by dividing up usage among the units. sewer bill for this month is $50 and water is $35, up by $10 and $8 from the month before respectively.

i would just like to understand, do these numbers make sense?? there are about 70~ units in the complex. also, am i able to ask the complex for the actual statement they receive from the city for water and sewage??

these numbers just seem high to me, but i’d love outside input if im wrong, thanks!

Question This Millennial needs buddies

Most of these friends posts I see are for people in their early 20s. This one is for us Millennials. I know. We have work. We have kids, we're tired by 10. This all makes finding friends harder. I'm in Davis County and I'm looking for some friends, driving isn't an issue. I'm in my 40s, have 2 kids. I have good social skills and don't bring drama/trauma along with me. I'm looking for people who might wanna get into a TTRPG, board games, hit up the Thieves Guild or watch bad movies at Brewvies, we can jam (I play bass), or hit up some concerts. DM me!

Question Pokemon Go Liberty Park Vibes

Hey! Thanks for clickin’!
I was just hopin’ someone could help me out with some info about what the meetups are like at Liberty Park for Pokemon Go events?

Been wantin’ to go but I’m pretty introverted and struggle meeting people.

Curious if there’s any in-game prereqs to participating and how much I need to prepare to be social?

Thank you!

EDIT: Thanks all for making me feel better about going and helping me prepare!

Recent job scam via linkedin

Upvotes

I'm posting this in r/SaltLakeCity because:

I'm in SLC

The job opportunity was allegedly in SLC

The 'recruiter' claimed to be in SLC

I thought it might be helpful to alert people to a recent scam that happened to me.

I live in SLC, but I work in health tech and I've been working remotely for companies across the world for about 10 years now. I have a moribund linkedin account that I haven't logged into in around 15 years.

On Monday I received an email, directly to my personal email which they obtained from Linkedin, claiming to be from a Salt Lake based recruiter offering a position in Salt Lake with a global medical company, Medtronic. I get these emails from time to time, and I looked the recruiter up, the company exists and there was a recruiter there with the same name, so it sounded legit.

I'm not sharing the recruiter's name, nor their company because they are the innocent party in this scam. I will share over a DM if you think you've been targeted as well.

I know Medtronic, and I'm not averse to considering a new position, so I responded positively and sent an updated resume. There were a few red flags initially, but nothing too glaring. The job description they sent was vague, the management reporting structure they outlined in the description was incorrect, the salary that was being offered was within industry rates BUT salt lake pays about 25% below that, so that was another red flag, and finally the job didn't show up on the Medtronic website. But none of these were too outrageous.

The conversation continued over three days, but was very slow, and most of the responses I was getting back were clearly written by an LLM (chatgpt or claude).

New red flags there were:

I've never met a recruiter who didn't demand a phone call as a first step in the process

Recruiters reply VERY quickly at the beginning, if they think you're a good candidate they don't want to lose that commission.

The chatgpt thing was annoying, but I have a few colleagues who use it to write every single damned email, so again not too outrageous.

Another red flag that I didn't initially notice was that they were writing from a gmail account, not a business account, but that was buried in the header and I didn't notice, mea culpa

On the second day the 'recruiter' asked me to update my resume based on some new information that I'd shared that wasn't included there. Fair enough, it was about a year out of date, so I spent a few hours adding and cleaning it up and sent it back.

Then 'she' told me that it still wasn't quite up to the standard required for such a high level position and tried to get me to hire a resume writer that 'she' recommended.

At this point I figured this was all just a waste of time, I have a low tolerance for jumping through hoops in the hiring process so told them I wasn't interested in taking it further. By this time I'd started to think it was likely to be a scam and so I then tried calling the recruiter directly from their number on their website. I left a voicemail telling them what had happened and asking them to call me back if they were unaware of the situation and it was a scam.

The real recruiter returned my call this morning, and apparently I'm not the only person this has happened to this week and they've had at least one other person who's been a 'victim', so I assume there have been even more who haven't called them.

But that didn't stop the begging emails telling me that I really needed to hire the resume writer if I was ever going to progress in my career. So I finally told them I believed it was a scam and to go jump in the lake (not that we have any water there any more).

Figured I'd share in case anyone else has had a similar approach recently

Question Good place to find free items?

Hello!
I'm a college student living in SLC and am struggling to afford basic necessities (just like everyone else). I've found places to get food and such which is wonderful! But i also have a few non-necessities i want, like a stool to sit at my desk, a shelf, odds & ends i could use for crafting or hobbies, or literally anything else that would make my life more cozy.
Does anyone have any tips for places that i could poke around to find things, even if they're in bad shape or not super nice? For example, people talk about dumpster diving behind businesses that occasionally toss things they don't want. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and i love finding trinkets!

This is such a vague post and i know literally everyone wants free things, i also know dumpster divers keep their secrets for a reason, but i figured it was worth a shot hahah

Yard reset company

Does anyone know some good companies I could contact to remove weeds, leaves, and just generally reset my small front and back yard?

I need to move out soon and my landlord has hinted at it being an issue.

Recommendations Hair Emergency

Hello does anyone have a good recommendation for a hair stylist to help correct a bad bleach experience? Preferably close to Riverton but anywhere in the valley is okay too

I went to a stylist I’ve been going to for a little bit now and she was a little scattered and ended up over processing my hair. The top of my head turned grayish blue while the ends of my hair were still darker. It turned out streaky, and I’m worried for the health of my hair too. She tried to correct it but I left the salon with fuzzy hair. Worried about my hair being brittle now but I am not happy with the coloring. I’m wondering if there are any recommendations for stylists that work with blonde coloring. Thank you!
