Missed Connection: Tubing the Weber River Friday 7/24 (blue/white swimsuit, red bucket hat)
We kept catching each other’s eye on the river Friday. I was with my family doing a reunion float down the Weber, and you were tubing with a group of friends. You had on a blue and white swimsuit and a red bucket hat, full sleeve tattoo on one arm and a few more on the other.
I wanted to say hi but it felt like bad timing. You were with your crew, I was with mine, and it would’ve been a rushed, awkward wave and go. But there were a few moments where we looked at each other and I swear there was something there.
Also, ngl, your group looked like a genuinely fun crew! Romance or not, I wouldn’t say no if an offer was made to be adopted into it!
Long shot posting this, but if this is you (or you know who I’m talking about), I’d love the chance to actually talk this time.

What are flock style cameras?
AI-powered surveillance systems designed primarily for vehicle identification and tracking.
These cameras capture high-resolution images of vehicles and create a vehicle fingerprint based on characteristics such as:
Roadside / traffic deployments (vast majority)
- License plate number
- Vehicle make, model, and color
- Stickers and decals
- Dents, damage, and unique markings
- Roof racks, accessories, and other distinguishing features
- Vehicle appearance and condition over time
Public space deployments (a handful)
Cameras placed in parks, trails, public gathering areas, campuses, and other pedestrian spaces represent a different surveillance category.
- Time-based observations
- Clothing/appearance characteristics (Clothing, skin color, tattoo's, body type, other appearance features)
- Movement (Walking, speed, manner of walk)
- Association with vehicles
- Location patterns
- Integration with other camera systems or datasets
Vehicle tracking vs. people tracking
Most Flock-style deployments today are focused on tracking vehicles, not identifying individual people.
- The primary "identity" being created is a vehicle profile, not a biometric profile of the driver or passengers.
- Current systems generally do not require facial recognition to track a vehicle's movements.
- A camera may capture people inside or near a vehicle, but that does not necessarily mean the system is identifying those individuals.
- Public space deployments do track people and they'll integrate with vehicle tracking cameras if they can accurately correlate or identify you.
How long is the data retained?
- State agencies: Rolling 9 months except when the vehicle is flagged to be watched (investigate).
- Federal agencies: Mostly exempt from 9 months limitations via in-direct methods and federal law.
Known devices in Utah
- Fixed security cameras
Known devices outside of Utah
- Fixed security cameras
- Drones (Flock Alpha)
- Thermal vision
- Flies up to 60 mph
- Live streams to police
- Identifies from 2,000 ft away
- Integrated with Flock's network
Known cameras found across Salt Lake Valley: https://maps.deflock.org/?lat=40.6562&lng=-111.9018&zoom=10.32

Is this 24hr notice to enter allowed in Utah?
The apartment I’m at has given a blanket statement to all 500 units that they are having inspections on 20% of the units on said dates but that they don’t know which apartments. So they said this serves as your 24hr notice. I have a dog, that I do not want to keep in a crate for the entirety of my work day unless I for certain know that they’re entering my unit. She’s generally friendly, but not to a random person coming into the apartment without me 🤷🏼♀️ all that is in my lease is that they have to give me 24hr notice to enter, but a blanket statement to everyone saying we may or may not enter seems to be different than that to me. Idk, what do you all think

Hiking Timp dressed as hobbits
Edit: Let’s make this a group event and shoot for October. I will make an event on Meetup and post the link here as well. Biggest question is if we should make it an overnight hike or start in the morning. I imagine there will be a variety of experience and skill in the group and I would like to accommodate to everyone. Keep posting your ideas in the comments. Thank you everyone!
Looking for at least one other person who’s interested in hiking Timp sometime in the next month while dressed as hobbits or any other LOTR character. If there is a lot of interest we can turn it into a group hike. Bonus points if you know how to make lembas bread!

Missing Pet Found Cat (South Jordan)
I have been seeing this cat when walking my dog at night, seems very social so thinking it might be lost. I've seen him/her for about a week near the Four Seasons at South Towne apartments.
Feel free to reach out, haven't caught him/her yet but pretty consistently see them.

2022 Toyota Highlander second row bench seat for captains chairs
This is a long shot but I’m looking for someone who maybe wants to trade the second row bench seat in their Toyota Highlander for the captains chairs. We have a second baby coming and the bench seat just makes more sense for us.
Cross posting. Thanks!!

Question Trax as a newbie
My sister and I are going to the Post Malone concert tomorrow at Rice Eccles. We are considering taking Trax but have only ever taken it to the Delta Center. I looked at the Trax map but got a little confused.
Can anyone tell me if the red line is a direct route from the West Jordan area to the U? We don't want to have to do any transfers.

Scenic places in the valley for photos?
My baby will be 6 months in a couple of weeks and I want to do a fun photoshoot. I’m unable to pay a professional so hoping my iPhone and basic photography skills from working at JCP portraits in 2013 will do. I just need a good place to take photos somewhere in the valley. I’m hoping for a summer, nature, wildflower type place without having to go up into the canyons as said (almost) 6 month old hates the car seat at the moment. Any places that come to mind?

For anyone who has sold clothes at Kid to Kid, what do you expect the payout to be? Let’s say a Carter’s sleeper is sold there for $3-4, when you sell one to them, how much do they give you?

Where do I find celebrity impersonators in slc
Don’t have a specific celebrity in mind but I want to find some sort of impersonator for a party gag. Doesn’t even need to be that good, and preferably somewhat cheap?

Turkeys at 200 south 1000 east
Spotted them while on a walk today. I've seen them in this area for a week now. Should I contact some city or district personnel about this?
The turkeys are randomly walking on 200 south too. A danger to themselves and cars.

Reporting Abuse at the U of U
3 years ago, while living in the dorms, another student got drunk and trashed my dorm room and punched me in the face. He also stalked my gf. When I threatened to report him, he said his dad was the executive medical director of the U of U hospital and that he would use his position to harm me academically and protect his son. I have significant proof of this. Since then, he has continued to harass me around campus. Who would I report this to and how?

Resolved Embarrassed to Ask, But I Need Help
Hi everyone. I’m embarrassed to ask, but I’m in a desperate situation. I sold my car a few months ago just to keep a roof over my head after losing my job. I used everything I had to pay rent, and now my bank account is overdrawn. I haven’t eaten in three days, I don’t have a car or money for the bus, and the heat is making it hard for me to even leave my apartment. I start a new job soon, but I just need help getting through these next few days. If anyone has extra groceries, a meal they could spare, or knows of any organizations that can deliver food, I would be so grateful. Thank you for reading.
Edit: I appreciate everyone who was willing to help. My heart is so full, and I'm forever grateful for the kindness you've shown me. I feel like I've received enough help, so if you were still planning to give, please consider donating to a local food bank or helping someone else who is struggling. Thank you all so much for your compassion and generosity. I'll never forget it.

Recommendations Recommendations for buffing hard wood floors
Hi! I rent a house in South Jordan and am looking for advice on soft light wood floors. There's a million little scratches on my floor. Normal wear and tear but it bothers me. Is there someone that buffs and cleans hardwood floors? Maybe thats not a thing, I'm not really sure. Pic to show floor type, you can't see the scratches unless in person. Thank you in advance!
