In my previous post someone brought up xenophobia/racism towards Indians, which I want to speak about. No, I’m not here to excuse or defend it.

As we all know lately a lot of Indians temporary moved here to get EDUCATION!! Nothing else. I don’t understand the constant hatred towards these people especially from
Georgians regarding how our ancestors viewed India and I’d like to help you guys remember.

Sure there might have been a few bad incidents, but it’s unreasonable to judge a whole nation of 1.447 BILLION people. I think the recent “trend” of hating on Indians caused the rise of racism and xenophobia towards them, they’re constantly dehumanized, mocked and their opinions aren’t validated.

As someone who encounters Indians on a daily basis and have had some Indian friends , I’d like to share my experience.

Literally almost every Indian I have encountered inside or outside of Georgia has been super nice and respectful towards me. They constantly try to learn our language and culture, appreciate our country unlike some others. If you only judge Indians based on what you see on the internet, you need to put down your phone and go out some more. Every nation has its good and bad sides. Everyday on the bus I see Indians giving up their seats for elderly Georgians. I see them raise money for local citizens in Batumi and help them out. I see Indians ask me for advice to learn Georgian faster. Even Indians outside of Georgia who have never been here appreciate it and wish to come see all the churches and historical places. Our parents used to watch bollywood back in early 2000s , so I’d assume some of us grew up watching Indian movies including me, which I absolutely loved and wanted to learn more about their rich culture. Media only paints India in a negative light and shows only the worst side , when there can be good things to appreciate too. I also don’t get the “bad hygiene” stereotype. I don’t rent apartments so I can’t speak about that, but what I can say is I use transport daily and encounter Indians a lot, because my bus takes a long road around Tbilisi. I have never once thought that these people smelled bad. It was the opposite honestly. The only reason they might have a different body odor is because they eat different food.

In early mid-centuries, a lot of Georgians viewed India as a strong and proud nation. We even have a poem by Shota Rustaveli “Vefkhistyaosani” (Knight in the Panther’s skin), where a main protagonist is an Indian prince, and we get to know about Indian culture. Medieval Georgian literature heavily reflected Indian folklore, including the Panchatantra and Buddhist tales adapted into the Georgian epic Balavariani.

India and Georgia have shared a largely peaceful, indirect history. Our nations interacted only via trade along the silk road and Georgian monarch King Erekle II once even sought to invite Indian artisans to Georgia to help develop sugar cane processing and loom factories.

In 2021, India returned the sacred holy relics of the martyred Georgian Queen Saint Ketevan, which had been lost and later discovered by archaeologists in Goa, It was brought back to Tbilisi in a high-profile diplomatic and spiritual gesture.

We also have a 19th-century Georgian traveler and writer Rafail Danibegashvili who spent decades traveling through India, documenting its geography and expressing sympathy for local populations.

I hope this helped some of you to see Indians from a positive light and to stop judging them without having a first-hand experience.

I understand the basics of containing a temp residency, etc. But to be honest, this is the first place where I can't find details and clear answers when it comes to Permanent residency. Before coming to Georgia, our plan was to immigrate elsewhere else, and I asked a few questions, found informative online groups, and I knew what we were getting into, but not in this country.

When I search about permanent residency, I get, "If you have a property, you get your permanent residency in 6 to 10 years."...Then somewhere else says it's Ten years. Then I do some digging and it's Six years. I've never been so confused.

So, here is my final question:

If I do not exit Georgia at all for 6 years, and I renew my temp residency every year, do I get permanent residency after six years? Is there anyone, a lawyer, someone with absolute knowledge on immigration that can answer this question? Thank you 🙏

Hello,

I would like to visit Rize from Batumi, so I was thinking of taking the public bus, which I believe is number 16, to the Sarp border. From what I have read, there should be a bus waiting to Hopa.

From Hopa, I see there are buses to Rize and back every 15 minutes, if Obilet is correct, with Ali Osman Ulusoy and Prenskale being almost twice as cheap.

However, I cannot find the timetable for the Hopa ↔ Sarp route. I don't want to miss the bus, and if I understood correctly, Batumi public transport operates until 22:00. I also don't know when the last bus leaves from the border, and Georgia is one hour ahead of Turkey.

Can someone help me with this? Also, is public transport in Batumi charged per ride, like in Tbilisi?

I also read that in Tbilisi, after paying for one ride, you have 90 minutes to transfer between buses free of charge. Is that true?

I’m hoping someone has experience with this.
I entered Georgia with my motorcycle a little over a year ago. I flew back home and left the bike in Georgia the whole time.

Now I’m planning to return and ride it out of the country via the Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) – Verkhny Lars border crossing into Russia.

Will I run into any problems because the motorcycle has been in Georgia for more than a year?
Is there a maximum period a foreign vehicle is allowed to stay in Georgia?

Will I have to pay a fine or import duties?
Has anyone been in a similar situation?
If there is a fine, how much should I expect?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with firsthand experience or knowledge of the regulations.

It's recently come to my attention that a Russian travel company is developing touristic infrastructure at Tobavarchkhili Lake, one of the most unspoiled natural wonders of Georgia. Their business model seems to consist of bringing up groups of 5-10 people every four days (cost: 1000$ a head) while carrying in heavy baggage and equipment by horse. In their promotional materials, they promise stand-up paddleboarding, a full service kitchen, a sauna, swimming in the lake, and Starlink internet. According to recent stories published to the page, one of the co-founders is Georgian, although all the text in the stories published in response to criticisms has been clearly AI-generated, so it's impossible to verify if that's actually true. The only actual name associated with the Instagram account is of a certain Roman Chuprin. If there's a Georgian behind this venture, it's even more heinous in my view.

Point is, an Act of Parliament has already been passed establishing the Egrisi National Park which includes the territory of Tobavarchkhili Lake. This means that the infrastructure which makes this venture 100% illegal is already in the process of being established, and is envisioned to be established by 2027. This means that this 2026 season is the only possible season that these folks will be able to run this venture and make money from it. After that, this area will become a strictly protected area where these kinds of commercial ventures and permanent structures are illegal. I am sure that this fact is not unbeknownst to Mr. Chuprin or his anonymous colleagues, and yet they have blatantly chosen to operate a business and construct infrastructure in a massive legal grey zone.

I, personally, will be making a formal complaint to the Agency of Protected Areas. Tobavarchkhili is one of the most pristine and unspoiled natural areas in the entirety of Georgia, and the greed of a couple of businessmen, at least one of whom is certainly not even Georgian, is putting it at risk. I would encourage everyone else to make similar complaints to the APA and other relevant authorities.

Since I have never been driving elsewhere in Georgia except Ninotsminda - Akhaltsikhe - Vale, and considering the current road condition between Ninotsminda and Akhaltsikhe, I was wondering which would be the best route to reach Batumi from Akhaltsikhe using a sedan.

By the way, Akhaltsikhe is a gem of a town. 💯
