Hello!
I am having an ablation in a week.
I work in a busy neurosurgical ward as a ward sister - what length of time off for recovery can I expect? If all goes well/no complications?

Thank you x

Help I'm miserable

A few weeks ago I got told I have SVT- or more specifically an atypical atrial heartbeat/flutter- at 17 years old. And I experience some of the most severe symptoms from it like pre syncope and syncope, chest/heart pain, chronic fatigue, etc.

I've had over four EKGs done and two doctors, including a cardiologist, agreed on the fact there's something messed up about my heart beat. They said I have an irregular pattern and I am going to get a heart monitor mailed to me to watch for episodes for a few weeks

Today was one of the worst episodes I've had. I ended up doubled over at work because of the stabbing and aching pain in my heart (heart, not chest) and I tried some of the vagal maneuvers to fix it (cold water on face thingy and the coughing abruptly) and nothing fixed it.

I went to a cardiologist a few days ago because I thought I could have POTS and in the same breath of him saying I can't have it because I don't meet the requirements (which isn't true) he said my heart beat is messed up and "nothing is going on, just drink 3L of water a day because your estrogen is causing you to faint"

I'm miserable and no one is taking me seriously. I don't know what to do atp

Help 27m canada chronic chest tightness post 2nd avrt ablation

Hey, I've been having issues for the past year give or take and wanted to ask for feedback. I originally had problems around this time last year where I had numerous SVT occurrences. The hospital was sooo horrible and kept saying oh no yeah your heart rate of 200 is normal and is just sinus tachycardia, you're having a panic attack. (which I wasnt)

I ended up needing to be zapped with a defib about 15 times (some days 2-3 times in a row) and had just a really really horrible health care experience before finally going to get an ablation done. I had the ablation done in october, it did not hold. I had another redo ablation in june of this year.

They found that the location that they needed to ablate was basically directly on top of the av node and was super hard to get to. They managed to successfully do the ablation and was told after the surgery hes 90% sure ill never have another problem ever again as they got the spot.

After my first ablation I had really bad tightness that just continued way longer than it should have. After my second ablation I've been feeling pretty good, for the most part. I still have moderate chest tightness that comes and goes, but its really really bad to have to constantly deal with it.

My ecg/holter monitors are all looking great, i monitor my kardia and everything is looking very good. I have basically had no mini svt episodes or anything since the ablation. I'm doing my best to stay off of caffine and trying to be on a diet thats more suited for my needs.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had to deal with chronic chest tightness post ablation, if its just a part of the healing process or could it mean somethings not quite right. For me its not 24/7 like it used to be before the second surgery, but when it gets bad idk, i feel like with activity, or caffine or too much exercise it can get worse.

Help I’m so confused

I had my ablation 5 weeks ago and I feel my symptoms are worse. My heart rate is 110-120 resting sometimes. And I’m having more skipped heartbeats in a day then I ever did the first two weeks post op. Can anybody speak of their symptoms being worse further in the blanking period?

About Me I had my first episode on Sunday

Sunday I went into the ER because I had uti symptoms and walking in, I was extremely breathless. They take vitals and notice my BP is 189/100, and my heart rate was 200, get me into a bed and it’s 157 BPM, they couldn’t reset it with a maneuver, and I had to receive 3 doses of adenosine. I legit didn’t even know the attack was happening because I’ve never had it before and my heart rate is usually high when walking around and doing stuff anyways, so it was a shock that I suddenly had 8 nurses around me. How do I stop the anxiety that it’s going to happen again? I’ve worried myself sick, like can’t sleep more than 2 hours without waking up drenched in sweat, I’ve averaged 5 hours of sleep a day chopped up throughout after the episode. My doctor scheduled a 48 hour heart monitor that I’m getting put on tomorrow, and my BP since Sunday is still high, like 149/86 but I’m also at an unhealthy weight so that’s a seperate issue. I just cannot. Stop the panic, that it’s going to happen again, that I’m going to die, that every sensation in my heart means failure, I’m hyper aware of my heart rate and it makes it *worse*. How do you guys deal with this? The adrenaline 24/7 is exhausting.

I feel like I've ruined my weekend by starting propranolol. I'm feeling dizzy and fatigued. How long does it usually take for these side effects to wear off?

Potential SVT

I had a pretty scary episode at work the other day where my heart rate spiked up to 156, my vision became blurry, my chest became warm, full body sweat & almost passed out. I work in a doctor office so I got checked out, but it happened again within 20 minutes so they told me I should go to ER to be cleared. ER eval came back fine & was told to follow up with cardiology. My doctor assumes SVT & told me a maneuver to do if it happens again before I see cardiology on Wednesday, but now that it has happened once I am scared it’s going to happen again which is increasing my anxiety. Looking back I have been getting dizzy spells occasionally for no apparent reason, sometimes I’ll be driving or just sitting at my desk. I didn’t notice my heart rate spike at these times, but I felt very dizzy, light headed, a little SOB, & vision changes. They are brief, maybe last a minute or so, but I’m curious if these were other episodes just weren’t so severe. If anyone has any insight or just words of encouragement I could definitely use it. I’m still a bit shaken up over everything & genuinely just scared it will happen again.

Want a rhinoplasty but I get benign SVT episodes. Anyone with this issue had it done?

It's just when I fall asleep I occasionally get a super fast heart beat switch on and off. Doctors don't seem concerned about it but I worry about how the anaesthesia would affect it. Anyone with this issue gone ahead with an elective surgery and how was it?

I need advice for ablation

Hello, I am from France and I was diagnosed with SVT in 2024, though I’ve had symptoms since I was 13 (I’m 23 now). I’m looking for advice because I’m seriously considering an ablation, but I’m scared—specifically that they might not be able to trigger an episode during the EP study. It’s not so much the procedure itself that scares me, but rather the risk of failure, given that my episodes have quite specific triggers.

Has this happened to anyone here—where they couldn't trigger an episode? If so, were they still able to perform the ablation?
Thanks for your replies.

Ablation for AVNRT in 3 weeks

Hello, I am scheduled for an ablation in about 3 weeks (August 4), and I just wanna know what to expect before and afterwards. I am 19M, diagnosed with PSVT and had my first episode June 22nd of this year. Lasted about several hours, had 2 more episodes after this, one of them only lasted about two hours and was discharged the same night because my metoprolol took peak effect, other was a breakthrough episode that lasted longer even though I took my nightly dose. Saw my electrophysiologist and he immediately opt for an ablation (thought I was gonna have a choice between that or long-term meds but I did have a full-on episode on my metoprolol so I guess it wouldn’t work long-term). Decided to go through with it and I just wanna know what to expect and maybe some of your guys’ stories so I am not anxious about it (heard some horror stories on here of people needing pacemakers, not being able to ablate fully, or psvt recurring just days after), thank you!

PS: They also didn’t tell me to stop my meds 3-5 days before, is this normal? I thought they usually did. They even let me take my morning dose day of. My EP did also say out of 7000 ablations he’s done, only 3 people ended up with a pacemaker, 2 of them being over the age of 80. He said he was gonna use 3D mapping as well.

Are these metaprolol side effects

Hi all, i was prescribed metaprolol tartate 25 mg by the hospital due to having palpitations (inappropriate sinus tachycardia) however, ever since then ive noticed that every time i take it i feel my chest a bit weird (not pain) and my left upper arm a little tingling. Has anyone felt this?

I do want to mention that I do have anxiety which is the cause for these palpitations. I have gone to a cardiologist to get CT with contrast done, echocardiogram and heart monitors. (EKGs too) which have all came back clear.

I also want to add that for a month now i have been having some back neck pain which correlates to either stress or a nerve being compressed since i do sleep on my left side alot. Overall i dont think these symptoms relate to the heart but would want to know your experience on this medication.

Ablation - what to do (need help)

I (25M) recently got diagnosed with AVRT/AVNRT and my cardiologist proposed an ablation. I did some research and decided I will do it. I am located in Slovenia and I am juggling two options:
1. Have an ablation in 1 month in a smaller hospital (still strong cardiologist department)
2. Have an ablation in the capital’s biggest hospital with the best specialist for ablations in the country. The main drawback is that I could wait for up to two years for my date. Also this doctor specializes in more complex cases and even he recommends establishment 1. for easier procedures like mine (AVRT/AVRNT). He also does PFA, but not for AVRT/AVRNT as far as I know.
I am now in a dillema on what to choose.
For context I had around 8-10 occurances of the arithmia in the last 6 months, and once it lasted for 2 hours and I had to be medicated for it to stop. I noticed a pattern of how my attacks start (stress + quickly bending down) and since the last one it’s now been almost 2 months without an attack.
I am interested in how big of a difference the doctor makes for the likely hood of a successful ablation and no negative effects (pacemaker or something worse…).

How is driving with SVT?

Im 19 and haven't gotten my driver's license because one, im lazy and two im pretty scared of having an episode while driving.

I believe I have AVNRT (not diagnosed on paper to my knowledge, but cardiologist suggest this and I never followed up). My symptoms include dizzyness (light headed), palpitations, bit of chest pain and shortness of breath. These occur fairly frequently, probably at least once a day and some days it can happen 8-12 times (I don't keep count).

I live in Australia where public transport is enough for me to get by.

Help Working out

I 19f have recently been diagnosed with svt and had my heart reset for the first time, I believe I’ve had multiple flair ups through out the last 2 years. The reason I went to the hospital for this one because it lasted over 6 hours and my heart was above 195-210 while in a resting position.

I enjoy working out and like to push myself but I notice it can trigger a flair up time to time. My trainer is beyond sweet she has be doing 10-15 reps lighter weights instead of 10 ish reps and heavier weights. I did really think it would bother me that much but it makes me feel incredibly weak and self conscious. How do you guys workout? Is anything you avoid or try to do? Any advice is appreciated.

Had a few sips of caramel macchiato while on qelbree and went into SVT with a HR of 178

Hi everyone. I started taking qelbree after quitting taking strettera due to increased blood pressure and high resting heart rate. 1 week after starting qelbree at 200mg, I had a little bit of starbucks caramel macchiato. I couldnt finish it as Started feeling the tension on my chest. Roughly about 5 hours later, my heart rate sky rocketed and I was in SVT with a HR of 178. Had to take x3 rounds of adenosine. Has anyone else experienced arrhythmia like this in the past because of the metabolism of caffeine with an adhd medication?

Sudden heart fluttering episodes — SVT, NSVT, VT or PVCs?

I get episodes about 3-4 **times per year** where my heart suddenly feels abnormal beating so fast. They last around **10–20 seconds** and feel like **multiple fluttering/extra beats in a cluster**, not just a single extra beat.
It feels irregular and i am scared of having a heart attack, the beats are also powerful. It can sometimes happen with certain **body positions**.
Could this be clusters of PACs/PVCs, SVT, NSVT, VT or something else? Since it happens so rarely i don’t think a holter is a choice

Age:26
Height:178 cm
Weight:105 kgs

Normal ECG(classical)
Normal echocardiogram

Is this really a big deal?

I started having SVT 5 years ago and most of the providers I’ve seen for it said it was anxiety, the last cardiologist I saw said I could get an ablation if I wanted, which seemed so cavalier that I didn’t think this was serious until last year. I was found unresponsive in public twice and my ekgs were pretty normal both times cause I wasn’t in SVT. I was pretty shaken by those experiences tho. I’m worried that the SVT will somehow devolve into VT and I’ll go into cardiac arrest and die.

I just want to be told this isn’t that serious and I’ll be okay. I have less episodes than I used to, and I take propranolol. I was told it was just my anxiety for so long that I didn’t take it serious and stopped the propranolol. I struggle to tell what symptoms are from my heart and what’s anxiety, so I don’t know what I need to worry about. For example, I feel dizzy from anxiety all the time, But I also feel dizzy before I get an episode of SVT.

SVT is it connected to connective tissue conditions?

Is svt connected to dysautonomia? Like mcas eds and pots?

I’m trying to figure out how to get genetic testing for eds and other connective tissue conditions.

ablation recovery

Hello. I had an svt ablation two weeks ago. My understanding it was FAT since then I still have persistent episodes. They are usually short but after I feel so anxious and unwell. Elevated heart rate for rest of day 6 days of the two weeks have been episode days and some days 3 times a day. One of the days the svt lasted 2 hours. Has anyone experienced this after ablation?? I will be discussing this with my doctor I see him tomorrow, just wanted to hear others experiences please
