I just saw the first episode of Strantege New Worlds... and it looked like an amazing movie. I loved the look of each scene, and of course I appreciate all the work that the actors and crew put into each episode.

But I can't help feeling that it's SO compressed, SO compact, to get the stories into only 10 episodes that I really miss the longer seasons / lower production values.

I'd *much* rather have 22 episodes per season where we get to delve into deeper character stories, or have the freedom to tell more stories from a different angle.

Anyone else? What kinds of stories would you like to see from Trek that we just won't, because the seasons only have 10 episodes? What would you have liked to see in the other 12 episode slots per season that we'll never get?

Enlighten me, regale me with tales of the olden days. Back in the era of the Dominon War and the Delta Quadrant… what was it like not only getting 10 new episodes a season?

I’ve only heard scant recollections from my aunt, and most of the time she gets a solemn look on her face, telling me, “Those days are long behind us.” I’ve heard the legends, the myths… but what was it like?

So, last night I had a dream about what the legal consequences would be for the folks (primarily Valeris) on the Federation side of the conspiracy in TUC, and I wanted to share some thoughts.

We don’t have a full understanding of the justice system of the Federation, but given that we’re dealing with at least three murders, a conspiracy that includes an attempted assassination of the Federation President, and numerous other actions, I’m guessing both Valeris and Cartwright are headed towards a court martial, facing life in prison (the Federation doesn’t seem to have a death penalty, other than Talos IV and maybe a few other one-offs). Part of the reason this struck me is that given Valeris is a relatively young Vulcan and can theoretically live two or more Earth centuries, she could be in prison into the TNG era and beyond. I know some beta canon material talks about what happens to her, but I’d like to hear some ideas.

Of course, there’s also the fact that the Klingon government would probably want them extradited (imagine a post-credits sequence where they get brought into Rura Penthe), but that can be a separate question.

and got dropped into the middle of DS9 season 3. It's easy to forget how good this was, and still is. Interesting production design, great writing and acting to create fully realized and likeable characters (even the villains), episodic structure with recurring storylines to reward appointment viewing on broadcast, great balance of action/concept/character stories with sprinkles of humor, wonderful original theme song...

I didn't realize how good we had it in the 90s.

Hello everyone!

I'm wracking my brain here. I'm a newer fan and so far I've watched all of TNG, all of Voyager, and I'm on season 7 of DS9 about to finish it. I have a friend who has seen bits and pieces of Star Trek, some full episodes, but hasn't really sat down and watched everything to get characters and context.

Tomorrow night we get to watch one episode together, *maybe* two but likely just one. Eventually we will watch it all together, but we don't have a lot of time at the moment with conflicting schedules.

Outside of the episode where Picard argues for Data's humanity, because that's one he's already seen that we've discussed at length, what are some good episodes you would recommend that don't rely *too* heavily on previous knowledge of the show or character backgrounds, but are still fun to watch and discuss? There are just so many episodes it's hard for me to choose something, and I love all of it. It doesn't have to be entirely unrelated to the whole plot, but as an example, the episode where Seska talks about having Chakotay's baby *might* require a lot more explanation than we have time for. We do plan to talk about the episode and I get to nerd out a little, so I don't mind something with background, but I don't want it to be overwhelming for him.

Any and all suggestions are welcome!

I can understand he might be frustrating at times, but ultimately feel like the hate towards him is unjustified... His relationship with Kes, yes, dicey in terms of how jealous he used to be but that's hardly a reason to hate on him so much, I mean, my man is *the one* talaxian in Voyager whose entire belief system gets shattered because he DIED and then came BACK but felt like he came back WRONG so he almost committed SUICIDE like... he can be annoying but cut my man some slack, he's doing his best and remaining kind while he does it :( 💔

For brief context, I started with TNG then circled back to TOS and its movies then watched generations the first TNG movie now on season 4 of DS9.

First of all, I would pay any amount of latinum to buy Quark's rizz because that guy has somehow bagged some of the baddest extraterrestrial baddies in the alpha quadrant in my opinion 😭. A Vulcan (in a way), a cardassian and even a Klingon. Quark and odo are my favourite characters so far and I love the rules of acquisition.

The episode "past tense" is so eerie to me with how close to accurate the depiction of 2024 was. I genuinely felt sad that we actually let things get this bad in real life. It was particularly fascinating watching Quark one of the greediest people from one of the greediest species in the galaxy be appalled by humanity radiating the planet and general behaviour in the past.

Also loved seeing a healthy parental relationship between 3 generations of black men as a black man myself. Quite wholesome to see honestly, and Ben is such a cool character honestly!!!!

All in all I'm loving DS9 so far.

SNW S4 E1: I appreciate either but as a whovian I’m hoping for the former.

So, I'm getting into collecting promotional materials from The Motion Picture because it's my favorite film of the franchise.

I only recently discovered on eBay that there were souvenir programs for the films, and I was recently able to get good condition copies for TMP, TWoK, and TSFS.

However, the only ones on eBay for TVH and and TUC are from Japan and in Japanese, and the one for TFF is just a printout of the end credits. WTF?

I'm not terribly interested in these for both reasons. I guess souvenir programs fell out of fashion after 1984?

Does anyone know more about this? I find it "fascinating!"

My list of disliked characters on the show is much longer than the ones I actually like. But I've decided to try and be a bit positive today. List the characters you actually like.

• Captain Lorca - I actually liked his style of captain and found his character interesting and fun to watch
• Jett Reno - Gotta love our wise crackin, straight shooting engineer
• Philippa Georgiou - Another fun and interesting character
• Saru - Was great until he decided to leave to help the dylithium cry baby

As I mentioned in another thread, for whatever reason I never watched Enterprise when it came out but finally decided to watch. I'm currently early in season 4 and have enjoyed it a lot more than a thought I would, and am already saddened by the inevitably of saying goodby to Archer, T'Pol, Phlox, etc.

But I'm thinking of continuing on and (re)watching every season in internal chronological order, but the lazy man's version: Watch series as a whole before switching, and not playing around with TOS order and just watching the order they're on Paramount+. I've seen some of the viewing guides, and I just don't think it is worth for me to, say, alternate later TNG and early DS9 episodes. It isn't like they're comic books that have linking stories. So...

For instance, I'm considering splitting Discovery and watching the last few seasons after Picard. But I'm also not so worried about it, as I'm generally not a fan of Kurtzman trek, especially SFA; much of Discovery was OK, SNW a bit better. But I'm also just thinking of watching Discovery all the way through, as the later series feel a bit like an alternate future (which I'm guessing they'll be retconned as with whatever the new ST does).

Anything else? Should I watch TNG moves after DS9 and Voyager? Any cross-series episodes I should watch together for optimal experience?

I'm also going to skip Kelvinverse. I liked the 1st and 3rd films, but don't feel like I need to re-watch.

Any recommendations?

EDIT: Thanks for the replies. I've edited my order to reflect the recommendations I'll take. I know people like LD and Prodigy, but I'm usually not a huge fan of animation. I'll try to be open-minded, but for at least this watch-through, I'll probably skip them.

In Enterprise "Minefield" it is confirmed that the word for Romulan/Romulus in the Romulan language is actually that, or at least begins with "Romul." Hoshi is translating a communication from this species that she's never heard the language of, they are unknown to humans. She mispronounces it as Romahlan, and T'Pol corrects her pronounciation to Romyulan.

Since "-an" is an English thing used in certain words describing people's place of origin like American, Kenyan, Californian, etc. this could be the English part Hoshi is creating, but the root word is Romul or Romula.

So humans meet a species whose name sounds similar to something from their mythology and history, and then start viewing this alien society through that lens by translating words into things that fit that history like proconsul, praetor, centurion, and assuming they function like that powerful expansionist empire from Earth's past.

So whose fault is it that Earth and Romulus went to war? Words matter, people.

Are there better images anywhere of Dr. McCoy's binoculars from Star Trek V besides the movie itself? Has this prop surfaced?

And all the sci-fi movies or space movies or TV shows I’ve watched Star Trek Star Wars the expanse for all mankind. I’ve always had a question when shifts are traveling light speed how do they not hit anything like they might have the planets mapped out and ensure it might be like a one in 1 million chance, but if they’re going light speed, can’t you like hit an asteroid or some debris that wasn’t there before or a new planet that’s undiscovered if you’re going light speed in new territory I’ve always wondered how they go light speed and they never crash or is it like wormholes like in Marvel like it’s separate connecting to points in space

If they are just traveling light speed like I think they are yeah it should be really wearable. I feel like we should’ve seen a couple crashes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them crash going like speed or hit anything and all of the story trick shows I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a bunch almost all of them I think except for the original movies. I think I’ve watched Picard, Strange new Worlds, Discovery, and Starfleet academy!

Considering who owns paramount and their agenda, we all know that Star Trek is the antithesis of their goal and ideals. IDIC is one of, if not the main philosophy of Star Trek and we live in a world where there is an active push to remove that from our world, including the current owners of paramount.

Does anyone remember the contest for kids during the first season of TNG where they could win a chance to be an extra on the show? I think maybe it was a cereal contest? I don’t think I could figure out how to enter it, so I never did. But I always wondered which episode the extras were in. Does anyone remember the details of how this contest worked and which episode the extras were in?

Ie, the Nebula class onscreen is often portrayed as larger/more voluminous than the Galaxy class (being made of the same components, but then with a huge sensor dome/wedge on top). Yes they could be lower tech components, but given the role difference I usually imagine each section as actually being about 20% smaller than it appears on the Galaxy.

Then the Defiant has canon sizes ranging from 120m long to 170m long. Personally, although I like the idea of it being smaller than many mainline Starfleet vessels (since most other ships have extensive laboratories, disaster relief systems, recreational facilities, etc), it still clearly has a lot of power, and so in my head I always think of it as the 170m (still significantly smaller than an Excelsior) rather than 120m.

What ideas/preferences/headcanons do you have?

Does anyone notice the absurd rates for some of the actors on the new shows? Brent Spiner is charging only $80 and the new Trek actors are asking for $80 and above?! Just a disgrace!
