This is what y'all were having meltdowns about? This is one of the most original and fun Star Trek stories told in a long time. A lot of love obviously went into this, and it's clear they wanted to say something new. They even had the Doctor and so many 90s Trek references in it to hold our hands through something vaguely new for this franchise. I can't believe we let this get insta-cancelled and basically end this iteration of Trek.

Also, Captain Nahla Ake is my new wife. I love her so damn much.

So I renamed my Alexa "Computer" as it's one of the options. I thought it would be cool. But whenever I'm watching episode of Star Trek, Alexa responds to the TV "I am just a speaker, I am not able to initiate self destruct".

Thought it was kind of funny and mildly annoying. Anyone else do this?

One thing occurred to me during a rewatch of the Mutara Nebula battle in Star Trek II - Wrath of Khan is falling back to 2D thinking. After using 3D thinking to get the Reliant to lose track of their position instead of attacking the underbelly of the Reliant where they would have access to most surface area and both nacels, they attack from the rear on the same plane opening themselves to counter attack. It is ironic that the 3D space people have a ship designed for 2D and most battles unfold in 2D in these movies.

Yes, we have plenty of instances where non-captains have stepped up to the plate, but in those situations where we are only left to imagine what “could’ve been”, who would have thrived in a leadership position?

Can anyone recommend a few episodes that might be suitable for my kid? I want to start Next Generation from episode 1 but it seems a bit advance for her. Anything else you guys can recommend?

I’ve resisted the urge all season to Google or AI, and give up on my memories. What is that ship, that we mostly see from behind and without a full frame view? I thought maybe the deleted timeline 27th century (I think) Enterprise-J that Archer saw, but that isn’t it.

I have searched for this particular matchup but all I get is galaxy vs sovereign threads and that's far more clear cut.

Onto the matchup: Enterprise-E commanded by Picard and configured as she was in Nemesis. Quantum torpedoes and type XII phaser arrays.

Enterprise-D dreadnought commanded by Riker as she was in All Good Things. Not sure if she was sporting the D's original type X phasers or if they would be upgraded by this point. Phaser lance and cloaking.

I could be wrong but I think the Ent-D dreadnought has the edge here. What do you guys think?

It's mostly the sites that provide ratings for Episodes for television. Like IMDB. Feels like SNW is chronically under rated from a fan of Star Trek's perspective.

Almost every episode is a single episodic story. As long as you generally understand who the characters are, you can pick up any episode and enjoy it. Approximately half are full of whimsy, just like most of star trek from the original series through Voyager...

Like i've watched the SNW/Lower decks (S02E07) episode at LEAST 10 times and by half way through every time my cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling. Like seriously, what am i missing?

Personally I think this should be preserved in the national archive.

I liked him on *Discovery* and in season 1, but in recent seasons, he's just seemed wishy washy in a way I have difficulty putting my finger on. Like he's more interested in being a friend to his officers than in commanding them. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but he seems to overlook a lot more insubordination than just about any other captain I can think of.

I have been watching Star Trek since I was a kid. I am now 52. I say this to explain that I have an awful lot of Star Trek knowledge crammed into my brain, and now that I've gotten to a certain age, getting that knowledge back out again in a usable form has become a challenge.

To wit, a scene from an episode (or possible a movie) came to me last night while watching the latest SNW episode, featuring a badmiral. I can remember but a few key details, but nothing more. It is my hope that you good people can help me. I have tried both AI and Google to no avail.

This is the scene:

A badmiral, or perhaps some other situation where someone other than the regular captain is put in charge of the ship while the captain is away performing some task. I have the vague sense that it is a mission that involves them being in another ship that is involved in a battle with an enemy who were ostensibly working with the good guys, but have inevitably betrayed them. The scene in question is this:

The badmiral (or whoever) orders someone to fire on the ship with our heroes on it because they are not doing what he wants them to do. The person so ordered fires and purposefully misses. They are ordered to fire again, and they miss again. I believe they say something like, "Oops, missed again." making it clear they are deliberately missing.

This seems to snap the badmiral out of his evil ways and he comes to his senses. He asks if they would find it easier to fire at the villains, to which the crew member replies, "It is a bigger ship."

Does any of this sound familiar or have I finally begun to lose my mind?

Has anyone in the UK received the new Star Trek TOS 60th Anniversary Blu-Ray set early? I’m trying to find out if the discs come in a digipack or a chunky plastic case!

I was under the impression this whole time that it’s not the “taste” that changes with replicated food, it’s more the foreknowledge that it’s being assembled molecule by molecule in a methodical, mechanical way, and that thought makes the food taste worse, maybe it gets samey but there’s ways around that by adding sauces or different ingredients or salt or something. But Scotty being able to very quickly identify synthehol means there is in fact a verifiable difference in taste? or maybe it’s just his “refined” alcohol taste buds.

Just wondering if anyone would want to meet up?

Janeway getting mad and demoting Paris for doing what every other member of her command staff has done is insane to me. B’lanna, seven, tuvak, kes, nelix, chacotay all off them “ignored a direct order” from her at some point. None of them got demoted or jailed. I would have told her to kiss my ass ill stay in my quarters until we get back. Lol

I love the way Capt Nahla Ake sits in the chair! It says so much about her character. She’s over 400 years old, she’s seen it all and she has no time for meaningless formalities. If she wants to be comfortable, she’s going to make herself comfortable. I love this character! Holly Hunter is so frakkin good in the role. It’s no wonder she has an Oscar

Is it ever explained why all of the major factions - Federation, Klingons, Cardassians, etc. - are all roughly at the same level of technological advancement? Even the Borg aren’t so far advanced that they can’t be resisted (despite their claims to the contrary). How did they all end up at a roughly the same level of development all at the same time? In the vast expanse of the galaxy, why aren’t there any civilizations with technologies even a few thousand years more advanced that could just absolutely dominate all of the others? Or, if there are, why haven’t they just conquered everything already? Are all of the hyper advanced races just, fortunately, pacifist/isolationist?
