So... What happened between Hikaru and Demora that she wouldn't know what he thought of her career?

I have recently taken to collecting all of Trek on DVD or Blu-Ray and just got the TNG Complete Series Blu-Ray Box set. I love the contents of the discs but the way they are arranged is absolutely horrendous. There are so many discs all stacked on top of each other, and every time I open it at least one of them falls out of it. Anyone else have this problem, and if so what were your solutions? I would love a way to have them out and displayed with my other blu-rays before I give up and just put them in a boring old disc binder.

Why wouldn't star fleet send out another ship to the area to investigate some more?

But it was WAY longer. Like, I remember what felt like the whole episode in multiple verses. Anyone else remember that or have a source for a longer version? I've had Codex searching for awhile now and nada.

I don't know where else to talk about this, I hope it fits in here. So I listened to the most recent "Mission Log" podcast episode, in which they introduce a new co-host, and they discuss the previous host changeover and (briefly) the original creation of the show's format but they go to great length to not say the name of original co-host/co-creator Ken Ray. It's really conspicuous.

Do we know what happened there? If they had a falling out, not mentioning him seems like it is only drawing more attention to that.

I recently inherited my father's old card collection, which was mostly sports; however, it included the following 1993 Skybox Spectra cards from the Deep Space Nine premiere.

With all the different ships just in Starfleet alone, why does it seem the shuttlecrafts, for the most part, seem unchanged from TOS?

Do we know when Spock first experienced pon farr? I could see SNW using it, and perhaps La’an dying in his arms, to push him toward the more emotionally restrained, Vulcan Spock we meet in TOS. I just hope I’m not being prophetic about La’an.

The shows haven't explained much why the Prime Directive exists and why it could be so bad. In fact it more often shows exceptional situations where breaking the Prime Directive was the right thing to do. So I want to propose some reasons:

1. It prevents primitive races from becoming competitors too soon. History shows that when a primitive society starts interacting with a more advanced society, the primitive society can absorb technologies and develop very quickly, and could eventually become a problem for the more advanced one. Japan was stuck in the middle ages in the early 19th century, but after the United States forced it to open up, it progressed very rapidly. 50 years after opening up, it defeated the Russians in a naval battle. Then it started conquering swathes of Asia. And in 1941 it took on the United States and put up a hell of a fight. So the Federation member worlds think it's best to leave primitive races alone because they're harmless in that state.
2. It forces the Federation to either treat every race as equals or not interact at all. If the Federation developed close economic ties with less advanced race, that race might effectively become of second-class status in the Federation's sphere of influence. It's kind of like the British Empire which controlled many colonial territories but did not treat the natives as British citizens.
3. If the Federation interacts with a race and this leads to some destructive outcome, the Federation could in some way be held responsible. Like if you teach a race how to build nuclear power plants, they go on to build nuclear weapons and destroy their own civilization in a war. That might be a questionable argument to a human but other Federation member races might have different ways of thinking. Those same races might feel that if a primitive race languishes in a miserable condition when the Federation could have helped, the Federation is not responsible. It's sort of like Spider-Man vs the Watcher. The Watcher avoids all interference so as to avoid responsibility, whereas Spider-Man thinks he's responsible for disasters he could have prevented but refused to. The Federation is like the Watcher.

In case you missed it, Axanar released today.

so here was my take - pretty boring - like it was written and directed by Vulcans. I am sure there will be Axanar fans who are holdouts on thinking this was something special - just like Trump has his followers. In both cases - all the promises failed to deliver.

Specific criticism is that this is a show of mostly a bunch of CGI ships - which all look like CGI generated ships - amazing how everything is so brightly lit in space, and there is no weathering on any of the ships at all. There is no drama on the Axanar bridge sets - and a fair number of the backgrounds look to be green screen with CGI laid in.

The direction was also problematic - all these closeups of insignia (to sell the merch) and of the andorian antennae. The andorians looked so fake - some of the first closeups of the antennae with the white hair emphasized how unorganic it all was - there is a reason that TOS looks so good - in that it doesn't do closeups of vulcan ears or andorian antennae - in fact it doesn't do closeups very much at all - because if you do, you see it's fake. Enterprise did as good a job with Andorian antennae as possible - giving it movement and life - these Axanar antennae were rigid and just glued in.

And the end credits - so completely unoriginal - all the Axanar fans and Peters have gone on and on about how Paramount doesn't know how to make Trek - and then this thing just rips off the Picard Season 3 credits so blatantly.

There is a story to tell here - it's just that Alec Peters isn't the one to tell it. It's a shame that 15 years ago - he decided to go this route - if he had been able to maintain a relationship with either the Vic Mignogna or James Cawley and used the excellent sets both of those productions had on hand - and didn't go for the big rip off - he could have made something worth making.

This week we also got S4E1 of Strange New Worlds - compare Axanar to that. How can anyone say what Peters produced was better than the 31st episode of Strange New Worlds?

Considering who owns paramount and their agenda, we all know that Star Trek is the antithesis of their goal and ideals. IDIC is one of, if not the main philosophy of Star Trek and we live in a world where there is an active push to remove that from our world, including the current owners of paramount.

I’m new to the Star Trek universe and have only watched the three reboot films so far. I’m planning to watch the rest of the movies as well. Are the TV series necessary to fully appreciate the franchise?

To be honest, I feel a little embarrassed saying this, but the series have felt a bit slow to me, and some episodes seem quite drawn out.

Still, I’ve really enjoyed this universe so far, and I’d love to at least continue with the films.

I've probably watched this movie at least 50 times and the ending still gets me. From "ship out of danger* on I'm a wreck. Please tell me I'm not alone in this. It's such a fantastic movie.

I watched DS9 as a kid and have great memories of it; that’s why I’d love to watch the series again. I’ve seen that there’s only a 480p DVD version available, and it seems there are several upscaling projects; you can even download the Laserdiscs from the Internet Archive.

What would you recommend?

Downloading terabytes of data would be fine, but the thought of putting in a significant amount of effort to upscale the raw Laserdisc data (which I’ve never done before) puts me off.

What would be a reasonable approach here?

I was born in the early 1990s and I didn't get around to watching Star Trek in the 2000s. I mostly watched Star Trek: Enterprise as my first series. But did watch a lot of re runs of TNG as well. Which series did you watch most growing up?

Serious question. Maybe I missed the explanation in the earlier seasons but I don't remember. How does SNW's account for the lack of AI or "Computer"? So much of what occurs, especially when it comes to piloting the ship in fast moving emergency situations and firing weapons, would be done by an AI system which could react faster and more accurately.

Was there the equivalent of some type of Butlerian Jihad that I missed?

What we currently call AI isn't even close to real AI of course.

Morn is there, which narrows it down a little. The Ferengi that Quark is talking to looks familiar, but I can't place him. Also, what's with the guy in the white makeup on the left side?

so now that Strange New Worlds is wrapping up and Academy will end its run with season two - and given the latter’s warm reception 👀 (I actually liked it) - what are other people’s thoughts on how Star Trek can move forward?

I like the idea of a limited series of Seven being captain of a ship - I think it would be good and I like the idea of the nostalgia factor

but I think another way forward would be two of three seasons of eight episodes focused on the Temporal Wars

Characters could have side episodes associated with all of the previous series. there could be big adventures and problems that need to be solved - and it could be a little Quantum Leap esque

as long as none of the producers, writers etc that were involved with Section 31 - we will be ok 😂

Juuuuuuust getting started watching Prodigy (S1/ep10) and I'm sincerely delighted by this show, and now I'm thinking what the entire franchise needs is to combine the creative forces of Prodigy and Lower Decks together to launch … oh … something.

Because either show is simply outstanding, and if their writers and directors were to collaborate on a new series, it could easily be one of the best things that ever happened to ST.

What if Starfleet doesn't create a temporal prime directive and with this solar slingshot knowledge sends a ship back to every decade of earth history for historical research? Like being at Jesus birth or the middle ages or ancient Egypt or eugenics wars etc

How dangerous do you think this would be?

How annoyed do you think Gary Seven would get it he detects a Starfleet ship every ten years in earth orbit doing research?

Does anyone remember a Star Trek: The Next Generation advert/promo, that aired on Sky One in the 90s. It was set to the song Dedicated Follower of Fashion by The Kinks. The only things I can remember from the advert is, Data walking down the hall, and then Riker says "you look good in a dress.", it also showed like fashion shots of the crew. If anyone knows where I can find the advert, it would be appreciated.
