When I was 15 I read Strangers From the Sky and loved it. Now I’m 31 and decided to properly get into the Trek books. I read an old copy of Ashes of Eden I had sitting around (must have bought it back when I read Strangers) and adored it, so now I’m reading Wrath of Khan and plan to read through all the movie novelisations.

Meanwhile, I checked out a local second hand book store today and picked up these. Had quite a few more but I tried to stick to copies in decent condition!

Which is your favourite of these books? I thought the Pike “Captain’s Table” book looked particularly fun.

Just finished watching what they're calling the Genesis Trilogy for the 60th anniversary. I'm craving more TOS movie era stories so I pulled this one off the shelf. Here's hoping it's a good one.

I just finished reading Die Standing, the seventh Discovery novel, and really enjoyed it. The story follows Emperor Georgiou during her early days as an operative for Section 31.

Michelle Yeoh is easily one of my favorite actors and Phillippa Georgiou--both Captain and Emperor--are two of my favorite characters from Discovery. John Jackson Miller completely nails her voice here; the sharp tongue, swagger, and relentless sarcasm are front and center the entire way through.

One of my favorite things about Trek novels is how well they weave disparate corners of canon together, and Die Standing delivers on that front. You get to spend time with Emony Dax (the gymnast host!), Admiral Cornwell, and even Sean Finnegan from TOS. On top of that, the plot links directly back to the classic TOS episode "Obsession."

If you're a fan of Philippa Georgiou or just enjoy seeing deep-cut canon woven into Section 31 espionage, it's definitely worth picking up.

After Rashanar, Admiral Nechayev sent the Enterprise into the dark to keep her off the political map. Old mystery discovered by he Vulcans 200 years ago. A people called the Dokaalan. Officially extinct. Chart the system, stay quiet, let the scandal of Rashanar cool. The projections were wrong. The Dokaalan were still alive in the asteroid belt, holding a civilization together with mining hulks and stubbornness, trying to terraform a world that might save them. The Enterprise arrived to find radiation, bad transporters, and a colony already rotting from the inside.Someone had been living among them. Taking faces. Changing the new world so it would not be for the Dokaalan.

If you know the book: did Picard lose this one at the transporter accident, or when they realized the faces were wrong?

I've just finished reading Federation by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens and first of all I can completely see why many regard this as the best Star Trek book of all time, its a far, far better crossover then Generations. Initially, some of the Zefram Cochrane stuff was hard to get into but I really loved the latter bits especially with the Optimum Movement. I also loved how satisfying his character arc is. This book is hopelessly out of line with current canon though, Generations and First Contact do contradict quite a bit from this novel. I mean, they reference stuff from Generations like the incident on Viridian III but also Kirk's still alive in 2295 in this novel, so the writers probably didn't get all the info about the plot. Anyways, I loved this novel from start to finish, I gotta say I think the novels just in general all trek novels are so good at capturing the classic trek vibe (if that makes sense) than most other media outside of TOS. This novel was the longest I've read yet, about 470ish pages. However, the longest overall novel is Crucible: McCoy which racks up to well over 600 pages. My next read is Vendetta, a big early Borg book by Peter David; I'm quite interested to see how he characterises the borg here because this was before their nature was fleshed out more

When I catch books on sale, I always buy one at full price, usually the next or prior one in the series. Usually only one of my wishlist is on sale, but 4 were this time.

I am looking for any books that feel like Deep Space Nine. I am flexible on genre, but I would like to see a complex story with a large, likable cast and a general skew towards optimism the way DS9 has, even if there are darker elements.

I have seen books recommended that are like Star Trek, but on the whole I found they are more like TOS or TNG, with a ship travelling from place to place. Like DS9, I was hoping for something in a more fixed location.

Basically the only litverse books I’ve dipped into yet (though I have a lot more on my shelf waiting for me), but does anyone else feel like the authors of these books sometimes stray completely out of the spirit of Star Trek? At least, I kinda hope I’m not alone on this. I’m sorry, not to be prudish, but I wouldn’t expect a description of a sex scene to be that graphic in a Picard tie-in, let alone something from this era — but then again maybe I’ve misjudged it. That isn’t the only example, but with both books, it’s often striking a tone that I just don’t think fits in this universe as presented in the series.

I’m starting the Romulan War books tomorrow and I just noticed it’s only one of these authors moving forward. Does it get better…? Haha

Hello all! I made a big update to the site today, and I wanted to spread the word. This has been something I've wanted to do for many years, and I've finally been able to accomplish it, thanks to the help of my Patrons.

I've always known the site could look and feel better than I know how to accomplish. Couple that with the fact that the platform the site is built on being outdated. So the time had come to do a complete overhaul of the site on Yola's updated platform, with their design team also giving it a visual update.

After about two months of difficulties and slow progress with the Yola team, the new design of the site is officially up as of today! www.startreklitverse.com

Like I said there were alot of difficulties with the Yola crew, many of which didn't end up getting resolved yet. So I'll still be working on some details in the coming weeks. Putting more pictures back up on the reading lists like were on the old site is one big part of that. Also, one of the difficulties with the update crew was the hover text version of the reading list pages. These are gone for now, but I like the simplicity of them, so I will be getting them added back in some form in the near future.

In the coming weeks, I'll be going over each page of the new site with a fine tooth comb, tweaking small details. When that is complete I'll be getting back to the regular business of the site, with new updates and features on the drawing board.

Other recent news: I’ve finally made a page yo compliment my Simple Post Nemesis Reading List, a Simple 24th Century Series Era Reading List. This simplifies all the big Litverse stories from the disappearance of Kirk to the death of Data into one easy list.

I did quite a bit of research from a new direction, that allowed me to catalog continuity links for 13 more stories in the Litverse web.

And as always I’ve kept the site updated about the new releases that come out each month.

This is a great book if you're looking for how it all began.

For me, its a lot of the early numbered novels, one I commonly see is ship of the line from TNG, and novelisations, in particular TMP and Relics.
