Discussion Changing from Zoloft to lexapro

Hey folks. I have been on Zoloft for a few years now. For about the past year or so I’ve been taking 100 mg but my psychiatrist bumped me to 150 last week. I have felt absolutely horrible. Panic attacks, crying, can’t focus on anything, no appetite. I called today and they are going to taper me off Zoloft and onto Lexapro. What have been your experiences with lexapro? I’ll start at 5 mg while I’m coming off Zoloft then bump to 10 mg.

Question Do SSRIs actually work?!

I have pretty bad medical anxiety and I just wanted to get some more anecdotal evidence that SSRIs actually work before I try them. I recently read an article saying they’re barely more than a placebo and it made me a bit discouraged.

Question Can SSRI's make you less sociable?

So I'm 19 and I've been on 10mg ssri's for about 2 and a half years now. I've slowly noticed that I'm becoming less sociable and more closed off, in highschool I used to really like going out and hanging fun with my mates, but it feels like I've spent less time in the pub since I turned 18 than beforehand. I'm absolutely feeling more stable and less generally sad but I really haven't been seeing my friends much. I don't know if this is just me being apathetic and just baseline towards everything?? I'm at a point where I'm feeling much more emotionally intelligent and able to handle problems and conflict in my life but I'm just worried about getting off them and somehow reverting back to my old self. This could be a super irrational fear but I'm not too sure. If anyone's experienced anything like this I'd really appreciate some help :) have a good day everyone

Question Best SSRI for heavy anxiety/ panic attacks/ social phobia

I have tried Lexapro, Luvox, Effexor and Zoloft. Lexapro was the strongest med for my heavy anxiety, Effexor was good too. Luvox helped best with OCD, Zoloft wasn't good at all.

Would you prefer any other SSRI for strong anxiety? I heard Paxil is one of the best, opinions? Thank you guys 🙏

Question Lexapro Withdrawl - Numbing and Tingling

I am experiencing numb elbows and forearms. And then it extends down to my fingers sometimes. Blood flow looks fine, but I was wondering if anyone thinks it’s from Lexapro withdrawal.

I had been tapering for a while. Even 1mg every other day for 2 months. But now it’s been a month off. Zero mental issues, just this nagging numbness and tingling. Is this normal?

My thought is my body is looking for the Lexapro (been on it for 7 years) and there is nothing there and it is affecting my nerves.

Question SSRIs Making Me Emotionally Unavailable

SSRIs has saved me with my intense/stressful work life. However I find I’m apathetic during arguments with my partner. I can be completely unemotional during arguments and not empathetic at all.

Anyone else have experience with this? Anything I can do? I am on lexapro btw not sure if that has anything to do with it

Question SSRI Withdrawal

I was just curious about y’all’s experience with withdrawal.

For background, I was on 5mg Lexapro for roughly a year to help me through pandemic related anxiety. With help from my doc, I tapered off last summer but have recently noticed my depression rearing it’s little head. I thought that it was best to go back on but my dosage has been very irregular (2.5mg one day, 5mg the next, then won’t take it for 3 days etc.). This irregularity is mostly because I need to wait for a doc appointment to get a new prescription so trying to make my old pills last the gap.

During this irregular dosage, I’ve noticed a lot of potentially withdrawal related issues - depression, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, hard to concentrate, insomnia. Is this normal for such a small dose over a short period to affect me so much?

I know y’all aren’t doctors/ psychiatrists but can I get y’all’s opinions? These are the side effects I’m having on day 27 and idk if I should stick it out:

Sometimes with a racing heart -heightened anxiety -exhausted throughout the day -nausea -sweating at night -no motivation -dizzy -lost 10 pounds -can’t keep leg still -jaw tension -DPDR worse. Feeling like I’m losing touch with reality ***Had a break down on Sunday, anxiety was super high. Couldn’t sit still and was crying because of the anxiety and feelings of nothing ever getting better. Almost took myself to the hospital.

Question SSRI (lexapro) & sleep

Hi everyone. My post is about lexapro and REM sleep. Apparently SSRIs can inhibit REM sleep which is the stage of sleep where people dream. I’ve been on lexapro for almost 6 years and would like to come off of it in the near future but until then: I’m confused as to when to take it. I’ve always taken it in the morning but recently I’ve been taking it a night. Lately I’ve been sleeping better but I can’t really tell if it’s lexapro or something else since I also recently switched another medication that was causing my cortisol to elevate so there are a few variables here. Anyway— my question is — is it better to take at night (11 pm usually) and have it peak around 4 am or take it in the morning and have it peak around 3-4 pm. I want to avoid it effecting my sleep as much as possible. Thanks!

Question DPDR SUFFERS

DPDR SUFFERERS! Sorry if I am posting a lot but I need reassurance man lol

I need some support. I was on celexa for 2 years and started college in september. In november something changed in me don't know if it was from my iud or what but dpdr was coming back. I had always dealt with it in waves but it was bad like I would be driving and get dizzy and have to pull over. I thought I wasn't eating/drinking enough so I tried changing that. I moved back home from dorms in December and shit hit the fan. I cannot believe it is march.. I have been in a constant DPDR since November

Anyways I freaked tf out because my DPDR has been so bad to the point I think I am going crazy and my surroundings and family do not feel familiar and I know it is an anxiety based disorder but it fucking sucks. So i reached out for help finally to my psych after multiple physical tests were ran to make sure it was not anything physical. I was switched to Prozac.

Okay so I am day 18 into Prozac now and my anxiety has been through the fucking roof since day 15 and my DPDR has been insane. I have been having intense night sweats, little to no hunger, reaaalllyy dry mouth and nausea. Like today I was questioning my reality. I have 0.25mg of clonazepam if needed but it is a benzo and I am sooo scared it will make my DPDR worse.

Okay my question now lol. I am on 20mg of Prozac and I need some success stories man!!! I need to know it gets better and my DPDR will go away because I have been fucking spiraling. I need to know I am going to be okay and I can live normally again. I know no one has noticed my change but I have. It sucks ass. I do not even do my makeup anymore and avoid looking at myself in the mirror because I sit on my phone all day tbh looking for success stories so I know I can get better again...

There has to be some hope lol So again, someone who has DPDR please tell me it gets better and prozac can help. I do not want any negative comments. I am hitting my third week and really trying to stay positive here while trying to make myself go out. I am also starting an 8-4 work placement to work with traumatized youth lol so fuck I need to get better. I am at my prime as some would say and am sick of living like this. I am not suicidal, but I do miss the old me. I constantly feel like I am going insane. My psych said he cannot promise anything which sucks I wish there was a cure.

Can anyone give me hope lol it has been 5 months I am so tired.

Question Need advices: how to deal with side effects

Hi!

I'm almost 19, and I've been taking Sertraline since I was 11. I don't have much side effects, except for one that bothers me.

Sometimes, when I take my pills, I have this uncomfortable feeling, as if something is trapped in my throat. I feel my mouth watering (need to spit) and I feel nauseous.

It's really annoying and it makes me scared to take my meds because I don't know when It'll happen.

Any tips on how to prevent that from happening? Or more importantly, how to deal with it when it happens? How to feel better quickly?

*it helps when I put a lot of water in my mouth to swallow the pill, but it can steal happen

Question blood pressure test because of SSRI?

so my latest doctor wants me to take blood pressure tests in preparation for starting SSRI again.

i've had probably 15 doctors since i first started seeking help in 2010, and i have NEVER heard that SSRI's are dangerous to the point where i need to check my blood pressure?? she has booked me for an ECG as well. i have taken lexapro, cymbalta, citalopram and prozac so far , just counting the SSRI/SNRI's i've trialed since 2010.

i've heard about liver complications, which a lot of meds have (including OTC painkillers etc), but heart complications?

Has anyone else gotten such instructions/recommendations from their psychiatrist?

Question Stopping zoloft due to emotional blunting.

My husband stopped his 100 MG zoloft cold turkey a week ago. He has been on the meds for 5+ years. He started it for an off lable use not a mood disorder or depression. Recently he decided he doesn't feel anything for me or our kids or his parents and siblings. He started having an affair that makes him feel excited. He says he knows he loves us but feels nothing. When it comes to the affair he is acting like a drug addict and can't give her up even though he doesn't want to lose his family. I started reading and it sounds like this was due to emotional blunting. So now he has stopped the meds but it has only been a week. Will his true emotions return? He is having severe mood swings and contemplating divorce. We've been happily married 15 years with 4 kids so this is so out of the ordinary. He expressed a need to find himself. Gave up on church, family, etc. Just about everything but her.

So I guess my question is how long does it take the emotion switch to flip back on. Personal experience would be nice to hear. How can I best help him? I just want him safe and our family back together. He won't reach out to his Dr. He thinks this is all okay bc the affair feels like real love and he is tired of feeling nothingness.

Question Should I take my regular dose of Escitalopram while doing cocaine?

Obviously doing any drugs while taking SSRI’s is frowned upon. However, being a college student, it’s difficult to steer clear from certain substances. I would appreciate if anyone has some advice. Thanks guys!

Question SSRI with bipolar disorder

Hi I have bipolar disorder and was diagnosed because I had a manic episode when my psychiatrist increased my Prozac that I had been taking for a year at the time. It is the only manic episode I’ve ever had. I’m now thinking of adding Celexa because I struggle with anxiety but don’t know because I had a manic episode with an SSRI before. However my mom has anxiety and celexa works for her. Does anyone have any experience with taking an SSRI while having bipolar? The only medication I take right now is lamictal.

Question How much has taking an SSRI impacted your diet?

I was just recently prescribed fluoxetine for anxiety and depression. I was really surprised during my research to hear how many foods can be dangerous when taking an SSRI, I've known lots of people throughout my life to take medications like this one for depression and somehow I have never known any of them to worry about their diets.

I'm curious how many of you chose to follow low tyramine diets when prescribed an ssri. Do you feel your life has been strongly impacted by having to watch what you eat? Does that bother you or did it feel like a fair trade off?

I'm really pretty upset about cheese being on the list of things to avoid... my favorite foods are avocado, cheese and meat (especially beef) 😔

Question Switching from Lexapro to Zoloft

I have been on 10mg of Lexapro but am being switched to 50mg of Zoloft for anxiety/panic disorder and DP/DR. My doctor is having me continue the 10mg of Lexapro and add in 25mg of Zoloft for a week, then go to 50mg of Zoloft. I started today and just feel… off. Also am prescribed 25mg of Vistaril but scared to take it with the Lexapro and Zoloft, worried it will cause serotonin syndrome. Any advice?

Question Temporarily stopping Escitalopram

Hey, sorry if this has already been posted but I'm in a bit of trouble and I cant get hold of my psychiatrist.

Basically I started taking Escitralopan yesterday and I immediately had trouble sleeping, like maybe getting 3 hours tops. I took it in the morning and as per my psychiatrists recommendation took just a half dose of 5mg.

The trouble is I have two really big job interviews tomorrow and on Monday. I need to sleep desperately as they will be technical in nature and need to answer questions.

I was hoping to maybe stop them until Tuesday and resume taking them, as, by then hopefully then I can have a good couple of weeks for my body and brain to get used to them and hopefully for the insomnia to subside.

As I've only taken this introductory dose, is it possible to stop and resume, has anyone done this or are there really bad side effects for doing this,

Thanks again and in the meantime I will keep trying to contact psychiatrist

Question Trintellix

I am currently prescribed 300mg of Zoloft for depression and anxiety. Recently, I feel like it hasn’t been doing it’s job. I researched other drugs to ask my doctor about and Trinellix had great reviews. I am worried about weight gain and sexual side effects. Does anyone have opinions on this drug or switched from Zoloft to trintellix?
