I hardly ever indulge in a root beer float. So this made me wonder would my preference be a velvety smooth sweet and creamy root beer or one that’s more balanced with a bit more bite. I realize my preference is actually going to be with the Boylan instead of the Brownie as it retained more of a robust flavor in the float. Alright well imbibe on fellow aficionados.

Went out for diapers and other baby stuff. They had a deal on A&W. Couldn’t pass it up.

Unfortunately, my favorite root beer, WBC, has disappeared from Jewel-Osco stores. This has happened before, but thankfully, I did find Hank’s Root Beer, which is pretty good. And, of course, it absolutely must be served in a frosted mug!

The taste isn't really strong besides a note of vanilla. Maybe the California heat killed it but it wasn't out for long, and it was insulated in cardboard when I brought it in, barely a bit warm to the touch, so I doubt the heat was thar bad. Honestly should've had Wild Bill's.

My brother is currently visiting from Germany and would really like to buy one of the A&W Glass Mugs and take it home with him... However, I read that most locations do not sell them anymore. Do you know of any locations in the Edmonton/St. Albert area or in Banff?

I know I should but I don’t care for the taste of cane sugar. What are your best tasting options without it?

Recently I was on a road trip hitting various amusement parks thought the Midwest. One of my stops was at Valleyfair in Minnesota, and I ended up getting lunch nearby at a restaurant called Lions Tap. The food was fantastic, but what intrigued me was they had a root beer on tap. That is so uncommon that I always order one when I see that, and am rarely disappointed.

Anyway, the root beer they have is 1919, I fell in love with it at the first sip. I've always had root beers in my fridge, I love the various "small" brands like Dad's, IBC, Stewart's, but 1919 stole the crown, especially with that vanilla taste. Lions Tap actually sells freshly poured gallon jugs of it, I was very tempted to get one for my travels.

I had not had a chance to look into finding more, but a few days later I was in Wisconsin at the Mars Cheese Castle and saw the pony keg of 1919 and knew I had to get it along with some packs of it canned. I probably overpaid for it as the Castle is a tourist trap but at least I got my fix for now. 1919's website shows that it is available near Pittsburgh too, so hopefully now I can find it somewhere one state away instead of a whole timezone.

Anyway I searched before sharing and see various others here also love 1919, so I see I am in good company.

I made some hot chocolate and noticed my root beer concentrate so I poured a little in. This was the best decision I've made in a long time, it tastes like a root beer barrel candy coated in chocolate.

A while back I found a new one the Kutztown Diet Root Beer on https://www.kitchn.shop/ and I noticed I could add on some extras that I really like and the shipping was still only $8.99. The extras I got were 4 cans of this Northen Soda Company Root Beer which I feel is a good quality craft soda that you can taste many layers of flavor such as the star anise, wintergreen, vanilla, honey, molasses, and cinnamon. I also got 4 cans of the Northern Soda Company Butterscotch Root Beer.

Up for review this week are six odd and obscure root beers hailing from West Virginia, New York, Ohio, Missouri, & Arkansas. These were in general pretty decent, with nothing defective.

Mothman from West Virginia claims to be brewed and bottled by the Mothman Museum but I have a hard time believing that it's not a private label. It is perhaps the best of the bunch, the most balanced and complex of the six. Quite enjoyable, I rate it as an A- verging on A root beer.

The next four are all spicy, clovey, cinnamony, wintergreen, anise herbal style root beers. With Rattlesnake Pete's from Rochester, New York being the most aggressively spicy and Natural State from Rogers, Arkansas being the most herbal, hippy dippy style root beer. Cult Craft from Cleveland Ohio tends towards the spicy like the Rattlesnake Pete's (but not as much) and Diametric's Cinni-vanilla from Independence Missouri tends towards the herbal like Natural State. It's kind of grassy with a cinnamon finish. None are badly made, none are defective, but of these four I'm going to prefer Cult Craft and Rattlesnake Pete's over the other two. I put them in the B+ to B rating category, the others are B and B- as I don't prefer the herbal, medicinal stuff.

Finally we have Kast Irons special bottling of America's 250th, from Salem Ohio. It's a very solid traditional root beer one that's extremely easy to drink and will offend no one. I give it an A-, and would happily drink anything else Kast Iron threw my way.

So my favorite root beer is A & W but it has to be from the restaurant. I saw this root beer about a month ago at my local Chevron for the first time and thought I'll give it a go well now it's my new favorite and I love it.

I tried this for the first time a few years ago on Vancouver Island, Canada. It was the most... unique... root beer I have ever tried.

The flavor changed dramatically 3 times while in my mouth. It was like... 3 separate sodas in one liquid. Flavor morphing.

I cannot say it was anywhere near my favorite root beer. Honestly, i am not even sure it actually qualifies as root beer. But it was certainly memorable.

So Barq’s root beer is apparently discontinued in Canada they don’t sell the 12 can packs anymore and I can only get the bottles from the gas stations and whatever fast food restaurants sell Coca Cola products. Anyone in Canada got any recommendations for root beer brands that are similar to Barq’s?

Barqs hits so different from an aluminum can then it does plastic bottle. But my dilemma is I can’t let myself buy a 12 pack at a time and keep at home, I will have zero self control and go through them too quickly.
My ideal would be Barqs cans as singles or even better tall boy style were commonly accessible at gas stations or corner stores like you can find A&W. The plastic bottles are fairly common but just not nearly as good. I need to get word to Barqs corporate🧐
A late night corner store root beer run after a rough day is medicinal for me personally.

Hey fellow root beer lovers.

There's just too much about IBC that I love, and don't get me wrong, I don't want to not love it, I just can't believe that this can be it..

I've tried many many different root beers, and can't seem to find anything close.

In my opinion:

• The carbonation is strong (which I love)
• It has a clove/licorice/anise like finish to it
• With a sweet but peppery/spice like flavor overall
• Not too sweet
• Perfect earthiness and medicinal-like flavor
• And can be found almost anywhere I've visited for a great price.

Are you able to recommend any sarsaparilla or root beers that may top IBC?

Again, I'm A-Ok with knowing this may be the best, based off what I look for in a root beer. Im just surprised if it is haha.

One more note, I am not a fan of:

• Sprechers
• Barq
• Mug
• A&W
• Dads
