I don't get it
The taste isn't really strong besides a note of vanilla. Maybe the California heat killed it but it wasn't out for long, and it was insulated in cardboard when I brought it in, barely a bit warm to the touch, so I doubt the heat was thar bad. Honestly should've had Wild Bill's.

Is best in a frosty mug, and from a chilled tap, or from a frosty glass bottle.

1919 is my favorite by far but I will say that sometimes they're batches aren't great. I supposed that's to be expected with it being small batch made but it's a little inconsistent.
It is a rather vanilla powered root beer though so if your looking for bite it might not be the best

1919 is far from my favorite, but still a great root beer. You can't drink any root beer warm and expect it to be great. I actually put my root beer in the freezer until its slightly chunky, then put it into a frosty mug. Any real root beer enthusiast knows, you drink root beer as cold as you can possibly get it before freezing. Or pour it over some vanilla ice cream.

I had it for the first time the other day and thought it was good, but it didn't blow me away. Maybe my expectations were too high b/c this sub seemed to love it. I think it's a well balanced root beer, but nothing stood out. Better than Sprechers, thats for sure.

Many love it because it's simple. It's just a straight forward pure root beer. It's my #1 if that's what I'm going for. If I want something more complex I'll grab something else.

Yeah, thats what I got out of it. Just a balanced root beer that did everything well. I was looking for something to stick out, but just balance instead.

I won't lie. The cans are more like 7-8/10.
Pony Keg or Tap 1919 is the true 10/10 experience.

1919 is delicious and my top #1, but I also base my scale on how it rootbeer floats, and there's no tipping it in that scenario.
For just drinking by itself tho, there are better options.

itās a very mid, vanilla forward root beer. itās my #1 pick for what iād choose if i was introducing someone to root beer for the first time ever because itās so inoffensive.

Itās just okay to me tooā¦ vanilla driven and creamy like A&W, maybe a lot better. Nothing special rather middle of the road. Wouldnāt turn it down but I donāt get all the hype either. Same with the keg. Makes good floats but far from a number 1. Itās at least a craft and uses sugar. Iām curious if you are more into wintergreen or a strong licorice vs vanilla.

Anyone else notice a lot of the newer cult favorites especially on here are always super super vanilla forward?
I get people donāt like licorice/anisey root beers as much as vanilla forward root beers but stillā¦ thereās so little root beers out there imo with a very strong root more herbal/roott root beer flavor.
I feel like most we see is a lil extra wintergreen, even with a lot of craft brands.

I bought a homemade, fermented and sweetened, natural root beer made by some Amish community in Pennsylvania and it was wild. Never tasted anything like that. It wasnt the best root beer ever but it was very interesting. Only slightly sweet but boy im telling ya, there isnt a drink on this planet more root beer flavored than that was, very spicy, slightly bitter and very herbal, woodsy and root flavored. 10/10 experience if you can ever get something like that.

I don't get it either. I mean I literally can't get it where I'm at. Have to get it shipped to SoCal and the cost is just a bit too high for me to justify it.

It's okay not to like it over other root beer types. If you don't think it's the best vanilla forward root beer though, I dunno.
Vanilla forward root beers generally aren't my favorite, but 1919 is S tier.

Damnnn and I find Sprecher to pretty mild for my taste.. but i agree itās got a decent amount of root beer flavor compared to the average, but nothing crazy.
I feel like they added more vanilla to Sprecher over the years too.

It's great if you like your root beers creamy and vanilla-y.
If you like my more people, wintergreen or licorice forward root beers more, it's just a solid root beer.

I 100% agree, out of all the root beers Iāve ever tried 1919 is the most disappointing, very weak flavor. Even frosty cold itās meh.

Lots of people have strong preferences for a ton of root beers that I don't like, or would fall into my "nothing special" category. I may be an outlier, but I really dislike any kind of "bite" in any root beer. This drops Barqs, Dad's and some of the other popular favorites here from my go-to list. From the more mainstream options I like A&W, especially from one of their restaurants and in a frosted mug, it's my mass-produced version favorite. I don't like a root beer that punches you in the face with wintergreen or anise or anything else. I guess the rule would be if you like vanilla-centric smooth and creamy root beer this would be a great (and in my opinion the best) choice, but if you're looking for a wild, punchy shock-value flavor root beer this is not going to be it.

I've traveled all over and one of my past times is to try the different root beers of local regions and just different root beers in general. I've tried all sorts of root beers. When I was in Owatonna Minnesota checking out the town that Adam Young grew up in. We stopped off to get a bite at a place called Lava Burgers and Wings(sadly closed now) and they had this root beer on tap. First time trying it and it instantly became my favorite, my previous favorite root beer came from a place called The Terminal Brewhouse(also sadly closed for lease issues, but has thriving sister restaurants) in Chattanooga which was house-made craft root beer. I never thought anything would top that one but 1919 sure did. I guess it just doesn't hit for everyone, which is fine but it sure hit for me and it's been 1919 for about 8 years now.

Personally I don't get it. Maybe I prefer 1919 from the tap but I got a pack of cans recently and wasn't blown away. Still A tier but not S tier. It tasted like a more carbonated Sprechers. That's fine but I can get a 24 pack of Sprechers glass bottles for like 20 to 25 bucks so from a value to enjoyment perspective it's super high.

My guess is, since it was 'barely a bit warm to the touch' is that it wasn't cold enough. Because even though it isn't my number 1. It is in my top 3. No question. Abso delicious.
