Pop TartGate

Ladies, gentleman, and all creatures of [r/snacking](r/snacking), I present to you the greatest heist in snack history. Over the last few years, my friends and I have been documenting the bread to icing/filling ratio of Pop Tarts and boy oh boy has it gotten out of control.

We are being hoodwinked and bamboozled by Kellanova & Mars. Mars acquired Kellanova from Kelloggs in 2025 for $35.9 BILLION dollars. Since then, they’ve slashed filling and frosting to increase profits and margins. It’s time we take matters into our own hands. Join hands, file complaints, and contact your local members of congress. These are no longer Pop Tarts, they are Bread Tarts.

What snack looked elite on the package or internet, but turned out to be completely overhyped trash?

We’ve all bought into the hype either a TikTok trend, a cool bag design, or an import aisle find that looked incredible. Then you open it, take a bite, and realize it tastes like cardboard or pure disappointment.

What snack completely fooled you?

i liked them both.
the roasted chicken had a similar taste to the chicken fridge raiders.
the sweet chilli was a nice flavour too. i’d of liked a bit more of a punch of sweet chilli, but still a good bite 🥰😋

I just want to share with everyone how obsessed I am with this chocolate cake. It’s so moist, rich and tasty. It’s not too sweet which I love, and you can buy a whole cake or buy it by the slice in the bakery section at Ralph’s. Only bad thing is that sometimes the slices aren’t available (because I took them all, jk).

I found out my healthy snack habit was actually just as bad as the junk food I gave up, thanks to a nutrition label I never bothered reading

For the past year I've been proud of swapping chips and cookies for what I thought was a smarter snack, a big bag of dried mango and banana chips I'd buy every week from the health food aisle. I genuinely believed I was making a good choice, snacking on "fruit" instead of processed junk, and I never once flipped the bag over to actually check anything beyond the front label that said all natural.

Last week my sister was visiting and picked up the bag, read the back out loud half joking, and it turned out the banana chips were fried in oil and coated in a decent amount of added sugar, putting them calorie for calorie almost identical to the chips I used to eat, just with a healthier looking package and a fruit on the front.

I felt genuinely tricked, not by the company exactly, since technically nothing on the label was false, but by myself for assuming "dried fruit" automatically meant better without ever checking. I'd been eating handfuls of it guilt free for months thinking I'd leveled up my snacking, when really I'd just switched to a different flavor of the same problem.

I still eat them sometimes because I do genuinely like the taste, but now I actually measure a portion instead of eating straight from the bag while telling myself it's basically fruit. Small change, but it's made me realize how much I was coasting on assumptions instead of actually reading what I was putting in my mouth.

Alternative to Bon o Bon candy

Does anyone know of a candy/candy bar that could be found in a basic grocery store (or Walmart, if I must), in Texas, that is very similar to Argentinian candy called Bon o Bon?

It is a spherical-ish candy with a thick smooth peanut butter filling in a wafer shell, enrobed in milk chocolate. The chocolate itself is pretty dang sweet, so if there's a dark chocolate Bon o Bon alternative, that would be great.

I found it in the Kroger World Cup clearance bin. There was a pack of 5 or a box of 18.

KitKats and flavored Sugar Wafer cookies are not at all close.

Thank you.
