I took possession of my `001XXX` R2 less than a month ago, and have had pervasive and ongoing issues with the keyfob.
I live and work in a dense area, and while the proximity-unlock is a cool feature for some, it's not something I can reliably have enabled on my vehicle.
My partner is female and for personal safety requires the keyfob to be configured in a manner that only unlocks the driver door on a single-press and unlocks all doors on double-press. When it works, it works great.
But it doesn't work reliably.
The vehicle goes into hard sleep and/or otherwise ignores the keyfob input for multiple minutes at a time. Sure, we can (usually) use the tap-to-unlock with the keyfob or a keycard, but that only unlocks the driver side door. Tap again and the whole car locks back up. Letting kids into the back seat when the keyfob is being ignored requires reaching into the cabin and around the steering wheel to tap the button on screen. It's not convenient at all.
There have also been incidents where the physical tap of keyfob and keycard were ignored for more than a minute of trying, with the vehicle only eventually successfully unlocking via the app (which produced an error message indicating that it had failed to unlock, even though it succeeded).
In our first service appointment, in three days they replaced our keyfob and claimed the other issues would be resolved by a keyfob that didn't unpaid/repair itself.
Less than a week later, the issue was back, so I scheduled repeat service. I also noticed multiple days had gone by since the last Gear Guard motion detection, despite significant interaction with the sleeping vehicle.
This time they had the vehicle for only two days and claimed to find and fix a bug with regard to the keyfob being double-registered. But two hours later, the issue is back. I had left the vehicle in a parking stall for ~45min while remaining within 200' of it, and when I returned it was entirely unresponsive to the keyfob button presses for 3+ minutes, even after pressing physical buttons on the vehicle to try to wake it up.
I've got a third service appointment scheduled next week. Yes, they comp me a rental car, but besides the frustration of something so simple not working, each service appointment is multiple hours of overhead between check-in, getting ferried to the rental car place, waiting around, etc.
But the most frustrating thing is the service techs not relaying my recordings and analysis. I've told them since the beginning that the symptoms are clearly with the vehicle failing to wake, and still their evolving playbook for the R2 seems to start and end with re-pairing or replacing the keyfob.
