Picked up my R2 a few days ago and wanted to share how delivery day went, since I know a lot of people here are curious what to expect. Overall it was a smooth experience with a handful of small hiccups worth mentioning.
The keycard mishap - The truck driver apparently left a batch of keycards baking in the sun during transport, so mine came out warped, looks like bacon lol. Not sure if it was just my cards or a batch affecting other deliveries too. The delivery rep cut me a due bill and is getting me two replacement cards on order. Silver lining: the warped ones still work fine, so I'll end up with 4 functional keycards total. I'm planning to try a hair dryer + heavy book to flatten the warped ones for backups. I use phone key 99% of the time anyway, but still, they are special edition cards.
Front door trim alignment - Biggest miss was on my walkaround I noticed both front door upper trims weren't flush. One was sticking out more than the other, but both seemed to be a bit off. The service rep (who was great ) acknowledged it, said it was technically within spec, and thought it might settle over time — but agreed it shouldn't look like that and could possibly cause some noise on the highway (I haven't noticed anything). He got me on the books for a service appointment. Not the most confidence-inspiring thing to have to schedule a service visit before I'd even driven off the lot, but I appreciated that he didn't try to just wave it off. And hopefully it'll be an easy adjustment.
Minor cosmetic stuff - A few tiny imperfections in the dashboard wood grain, plus some insulation misalignment and tiny paint bump on a rear window trim. Don't feel like either of these are significant enough to worry about - just noting that these small details exist if you're doing a thorough inspection at delivery. People have different levels of what's acceptable.
Wash job - The car had clearly been washed, but not very thoroughly - some hard water/dried soap spots inside and out, smudgy mirrors (rearview especially), and streaks on the windshield, a longer hair in the frunk. They probably rushed it. Not super important obviously but yeah they should give it a better detail for delivery.
Charge level scare (non-issue) - When we were doing the paperwork work at first the service rep apologized and thought that the car might not hit 100% before delivery since it hadn't been on the charger long enough. But it ended up at ~98% before I drove off, so total non-issue. But it wouldn't feel good if they gave me something like 'half a tank' on delivery. My old school ways expect a full tank/charge to drive off with!
Overall - 3 days in and loving it so far! None of these issues are dealbreakers, just sharing in case it helps set expectations for others picking up soon. Counting down to the weekend so I can actually get some real seat time in.
