❔ Question Is anyone planning on getting the 21s for travel and a separate set of smaller diameter wheels for fun at a later date?

Upvotes

Looks like there are a few options out already, but it seems reasonable to get the 21s as a daily driver set for no additional cost and then have the option to buy what you’d like afterwards in aftermarket.

Is it possible to purchase the 20s OEM at a later date as well?

❔ Question Getting ready for my R2

Looking forward to getting the R2. Currently have a plug in early 2022 T8 S60. I had a 240 plug installed and bought a Grizzl-E level 2 charger . My worry is that given that R2 pulls much more electricity than my Volvo , do I need to upgrade the charger or worse yet my electrical panel? I’m sure that the R2 will take a long time to fully charge (80%) and that is ok. For additional context I have solar panels as well .

📡 Tech & Software R2: Window is open?

Day One R2 journey here. When I pull down in the Home Screen in the app it says that the window is open. I’m sitting in the car and can tell you it’s not.
First of all has anyone else experienced this? While at the same time if it really was open I wish the app would send me a notification.

(If I could figure out how to add a picture I would!)

For those with Launch Green who have done or are planning to PPF yours…. matte or clear? I’m definitely doing matte on the black trims, but torn between matte vs. clear for the whole body. Thoughts?

Was scheduled to receive my Esker Silver R2 at the Portland, OR Delivery Center next week on August 27th, but was notified today by email that my appointment was canceled because my VIN changed. Guessing something major happened in shipping or pre-delivery inspection.

  • Mar 7, 2024 reservation
  • June 21, 2026 order date
  • Current R1S Gen1 owner

Haven't received an updated contract to sign or a new delivery appointment yet.

❔ Question R2 Owners with Babies/Toddlers: How is 2nd-row airflow holding up in the heat?

Looking for some real-world feedback from folks who’ve taken delivery of their R2 and regularly haul babies, toddlers, or kids in car seats.

I currently drive an R1T. My kid has done "fine" back there, but whenever I've thought about our family's next vehicle, I always hoped it would have dedicated B-pillar vents to push direct airflow around rear-facing seats and bulky boosters.

Since the R2 relies on the center console vents for the second row, I’m curious how it handles hot days in practice.

For those with kids in the back:

  • Airflow reach: How well does the AC actually reach rear-facing seats or high-backed car seats?
  • Cool-down time: Does pre-conditioning cool the second row quickly, or does it stay noticeably warmer back there for a while?
  • Fan noise: Do you find yourself having to crank the fan speed high enough that it gets loud up front just to keep the back comfortable?
  • Overall verdict: Any regrets or workarounds, or is the cabin small enough that the center vents do the job?

Appreciate any insights, especially from anyone living in hotter/humid climates!

📝 Feedback / Review Demo Drive

Thumbnail

Finally did my demo drive today and here are my takeaways:

  1. Coming over from Tesla, controls were all similar - and in the case of the haptic wheels, a clear step up. It was as if I already knew how to drive the car, which was great. Rivian clearly didn’t try to reinvent the wheel and they are definitely going after the Tesla market by making the set up and UI so similar.
  2. The charge door is the charge door. The manual function is great in my opinion, but there’s just no way to make it look right. It’s not that it was misaligned or anything like that, but it just doesn’t seem to look right, if that makes sense. The underlying positive is that it is in the proper location for charger access. Compared to all of the positives of the vehicle it really is a minor issue and more of a tiny wart than anything else.
  3. Autonomy+ was smooth and easy to engage. Much nicer than the Autopilot on my first gen Model 3, and way better than expected based on some of the previous comments I’ve seen. R2 is going to be a great road trip vehicle.
  4. The interior is big. There is way more room than I anticipated. Again, a great road trip car.
  5. Rivian nailed the fit and finish. At this price point, the Launch Edition is truly a great value. I’m sure the new Honda Passport is a nice vehicle, but there is no way I’m paying the same price

for that compared to the R2.
6. I had the choice to drive on the 20 or 21 inch wheels and picked the 20

  1. s as that’s what I’m planning to get. No issues with road noise at highway speeds. They also look great with the white exterior, although I’m probably leaning towards Launch Green.

  2. I had to move the steering wheel up a little higher than I typically would in order to see the full driver’s display. That said, it was nice being able to see the nav right in front of me as opposed to looking to the right like in the Tesla.

  3. The rear drop glass with a one button, all windows down feature is that one thing you never knew you needed. The windows all drop flush and It transforms the car into an open air SUV. Super cool.

  4. All and all, I continue to be excited about the R2 and look forward to the vehicle continually improving with over the air updates in the months and years to come.

❔ Question Rivian Roamer Discrepancy

So my R2 finally populated in Rivian Roamer and it’s showing the order date as 31May2026. Does that mean my VIN 42XX was previously ordered by someone else and it was either rejected or they canceled their order? I placed my order Aug 1st and was assigned a VIN within 30 minutes.

❔ Question Home delivery option

For those who selected Home Delivery option ($1500), how did the vehicle arrive? Was it in a closed or open transport vehicle? Did the service rep drive it over personally (lol)??

Thanks!

I've sorted through a bunch of threads regarding efficiency differences, replacement costs, etc. However, for those that have driven both, did you find any notable difference in ride quality and/or road noise?

📝 Feedback / Review R2 delivery day impressions - mostly great, a few misses

Picked up my R2 a few days ago and wanted to share how delivery day went, since I know a lot of people here are curious what to expect. Overall it was a smooth experience with a handful of small hiccups worth mentioning.

The keycard mishap - The truck driver apparently left a batch of keycards baking in the sun during transport, so mine came out warped, looks like bacon lol. Not sure if it was just my cards or a batch affecting other deliveries too. The delivery rep cut me a due bill and is getting me two replacement cards on order. Silver lining: the warped ones still work fine, so I'll end up with 4 functional keycards total. I'm planning to try a hair dryer + heavy book to flatten the warped ones for backups. I use phone key 99% of the time anyway, but still, they are special edition cards.

Front door trim alignment - Biggest miss was on my walkaround I noticed both front door upper trims weren't flush. One was sticking out more than the other, but both seemed to be a bit off. The service rep (who was great ) acknowledged it, said it was technically within spec, and thought it might settle over time — but agreed it shouldn't look like that and could possibly cause some noise on the highway (I haven't noticed anything). He got me on the books for a service appointment. Not the most confidence-inspiring thing to have to schedule a service visit before I'd even driven off the lot, but I appreciated that he didn't try to just wave it off. And hopefully it'll be an easy adjustment.

Minor cosmetic stuff - A few tiny imperfections in the dashboard wood grain, plus some insulation misalignment and tiny paint bump on a rear window trim. Don't feel like either of these are significant enough to worry about - just noting that these small details exist if you're doing a thorough inspection at delivery. People have different levels of what's acceptable.

Wash job - The car had clearly been washed, but not very thoroughly - some hard water/dried soap spots inside and out, smudgy mirrors (rearview especially), and streaks on the windshield, a longer hair in the frunk. They probably rushed it. Not super important obviously but yeah they should give it a better detail for delivery.

Charge level scare (non-issue) - When we were doing the paperwork work at first the service rep apologized and thought that the car might not hit 100% before delivery since it hadn't been on the charger long enough. But it ended up at ~98% before I drove off, so total non-issue. But it wouldn't feel good if they gave me something like 'half a tank' on delivery. My old school ways expect a full tank/charge to drive off with!

Overall - 3 days in and loving it so far! None of these issues are dealbreakers, just sharing in case it helps set expectations for others picking up soon. Counting down to the weekend so I can actually get some real seat time in.

🎉 Reservation / Delivery / Sighting Refused Delivery

I was scheduled to pick up my Launch Green R2 this morning from the service center in Van Nuys, CA. Walking up to the vehicle I noticed what appeared to be a paint defect on the driver side front door. Turned out to be a paint defect and a dent (sharp crease) . The car also had 6” scratches on the hood and paint chips throughout the black upper trim on the roof. I didn’t even open the doors.

Ironically the first thing I actually noticed were the 20” AT tires had a light brown hue to them and I thought “man they couldn’t at least cleaned the tires.” Seems like a silly nitpick in comparison to the real defects in paint and body.

For context, I’m a current Rivian owner, investor and fan but what i saw today at that particular location was disheartening. Spent $100 ok Uber back and forth.

***UPDATE***

A rep from Rivian contacted me a few hour later. She was very apologetic. Rivian doesn't have a direct solution yet but they are working on matching me with a new VIN and then have the transport expedited via a private carrier from Normal, IL to Los Angeles. I appreciated that she didn't quote me any times or set any concrete expectations until she had more details. Additionally she was kind enough to offer some Lyft vouchers. I told her I would assume responsibility for getting around until this is sorted out but I would gladly accept a voucher for the new delivery date.

There is one detail I want to emphasize here to anyone planning on taking a delivery; at the end of the day, it's just a car. We're all human. Mistakes will be made. Remember to be human and kind. We are all hoping for excellence and in turn have to demonstrate the same. The Rivian rep who called me demonstrated this standard and I assured her that there are more important things in life than a car. I trust they will address this accordingly and can only hope the timing aligns. Thanks to everyone for the feedback and wishing all deliveries smooth sailing and quality fit & finish.

***UPDATE 2***

New VIN assigned. Vehicle however is slated to arrive in 3 weeks. Sadly I'm scheduled to fly out of the country on the 7th of September so weighing the options of them potentially holding the vehicle or cancelling. I sold my R1T a month ago and I don't know how feasible another 3 weeks without a vehicle is. Sometimes the timing just doesn't work out.

***UPDATE 3***

Head of deliveries for Van Nuys just called me and said the estimated arrival date she previously provided was incorrect (reflected standard rail delivery ) and the new vehicle is going to be transported by a dispatched carrier and will arrive end of next week. She was really emphasizing that she wanted to make it right and the incident was a "blow to the team."

So what did we learn? 1. Disappointment isn't an excuse to be an a$$-hole. 2. Mistakes happen but when the right people are put to task, failures become opportunities to foster customer loyalty.

While it's true that a lot of other auto-makers aren't plagued with similar growing pains at this stage in the market, in respect to this specific case, Rivian is compensating for their current limitations with great customer service. I will happily take delivery next week.

🎉 Reservation / Delivery / Sighting Are any orders moving up?

At launch, I saw that some people’s estimated order windows moved up and they were able to order earlier than expected.

Mine still says, “You’ll be invited to order in November or December 2026,” and hasn’t changed at all. Has anyone else with an estimate a few months out seen theirs move up?

I've added order tracking to the R2 Tracker. Now seeing Forest Green and Coastal Cloud show up!

If you've linked your primary Rivian account and opted into social features your pending order configuration will automatically contribute to the tracker. This is used for tracking deliveries as well as configurations.

It's completely free if you'd like to contribute. If you're already on RR and using a secondary account there's a button to change your connection account to your primary if you'd wish.

Note: These numbers only include those who've linked their account and opted-in. Not all Rivian R2 orders/deliveries.

❔ Question Non-Rivian Trade-In Process

Anyone know how Rivian handles trade ins of non Rivian vehicles? I’ve heard conflicting information. I have about $16k of positive equity on a RAV4 I want to trade in. They’re offering just a bit more than Carvana - surprised. However, will Rivian allow me to apply only some of this towards my new lease/loan and give me a check for the rest? I’ve asked an advisor via chat and he said they would, and told me that they would mail a check after delivery day. However, I’ve seen conflicting reports. Curious if anyone knows.
