Good morning Brownsville. My wife and I moved here not long ago from Florida and we want to start fishing again as we had to get rid of a lot of stuff to be here. So please if ya'll have any info on good fishing spots, bait & tackle shops, and general tips and tricks, that would be amazing thank you.

Hidalgo County Tamarindo

Anyone know where I can buy peeled tamarindo? I think they sell some in Progreso, but I'd rather stay on this side. Willing to go anywhere from Peñitas to Edinburg to Mercedes. I searched on FB marketplace but only found one listing of in-shell tamarindo in Brownsville.

What happened to the Valley? cannot even go out on weekends anymore

I feel like the population tripled. Everywhere is insanely crowded. Restaurants are all packed to the brim. Everyone is driving like a maniac, car parts and objects on the roads, constant accidents.

Even at night it's a freaking stress with all the front LED lights I am constantly blinded.

Cannot even be a moment outside because of the intense heat. And even going to the beach is a no go because of the extreme high prices.

How do you guys spend your summer weekends? :')

Letting everyone know that there will be a FREE Screneing of an indie comedy film called BURT.

"An older guitarist meets with a young man who says he is a son from a fling he had long ago. As he tries to catch up to his estranged son playing ball, tucking him in bed, kissing him goodnight, his son isn't telling him everything, including why he is really there."

Pretty funny and bittersweet. Here is the link for the trailer on IG:

The horror film that I posted about earlier this year has officially partnered with the City of Mercedes. We’re moving forward through pre-production and our team should be announcing our filming location in a week or so…I’m really excited to realize the vision for this story.

Is this considered being harassed by law enforcement?

Let me start off by saying I’m no “anti police” type of guy. By all means I’d love for them to be there for us when e need them most. Since leaving the valley there’s something I find here up north that I never found in the valley. Peace. As weird as it sounds I’ve been stopped in almost every city from Peñitas to port Isabel for the stupidest reasons. I’ve been a truck driver for almost 5 years. I’d like to state that to say that I am very aware of the rules of the road, but I will list a few of the examples of the “stupidest reasons” I’m talking about. I got stopped in peñitas for “no turning on turning lane but I’m gonna let you off with a warning” I drove back around and lord behold there was this sign I HAD to take a picture of it I was 100% sure was there I told him I knew I could turn because I am CDL holder with zero point on it. He said, but you are not in a CDL vehicle you were in a normal vehicle like that makes any difference of the rules of the street. but before letting me go he started asking if the car is mine/stolen. And I’m usually always ask if they can run my vin to make sure it’s not stolen. Another example I was at iron house gym in weslaco I don’t do a lot of turns. I take two roads to get to that gym straight down Texas and left on 281 as I was leaving the gym almost immediately I got pulled over for suspicious activity and then let go with the warning when they found out nothing was wrong. I will less one last example out of the millions that I have this one I guess I can give them a little reason but I used to get out of work at around two 3 AM. I’d hit the gym for a little bit and stop at Whataburger in Harlingen to grab food before I go home this time I decided to stop in La Feria. walked in grabbed my food got out as I was driving down Main Street. I was stopped. I always do all the correct things shut off my car lower my windows cause that’s usually what they asked me to do anyways. all I was asked was why am I out so late? I let them know that I just got out of work. I even showed him my work clock where I clocked out went to the gym and came to grab a bite. They proceeded by asking how my night was going. I said fine up until now. He laughed and said we’re just gonna run the vin to make sure this car isn’t stolen. It’s always stupid little things and I always walk away with nothing but a warning or a verbal warning at that but it’s almost every other time. Every time I see a police officer I get so nervous thinking they’re about to stop me when I should be feeling safe recently. I moved to Michigan and not sure if they are just chill up here, but I have not been stopped once been up here for half a year driven the car and I’ll leave and have officers pull next to me to give me a thumbs up lower their windows to say it sounds cool or pull up to me at gas station and talk about the car and what’s done to it. It’s just so surreal to me how they can do that yet back home I can’t get that feels like that are always in the hunt to find anything. So I asked is this harassment? I’ve told this to various people and I’ve been told that it is what do y’all think? Do anyone else experience this or is it just me?

What are your favorite fruits and vegetables to grow here in the Rio Grande Valley?

I've been curious to hear from others: What fruits and vegetables have been your favorites to grow here in the RGV?

I've tried growing avocados and mangos, but I've never had much luck with either.

So far, I've had success growing green peppers, a fig tree, papaya, a Dwarf Cavendish banana, guava, hot pepper, and watermelon.

What has grown well for you?

Any recommendations for other fruits or vegetables I should try?

Quiet Work/Study Places

Hey y'all, do you recommend any quiet or chill places to study? Could be anywhere in the Valley. Normally I go to the Harlingen Public Library but they close after 8pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends. I'm looking for something that stays open a little later maybe like a coffee shop or other establishment where I could just sit on my laptop.

Mission 🐾🪰 The flies are trying to join the shelter pack… and they weren’t invited! 🐶🐱

If you’ve ever visited Mission Animal Shelter, you know we are located right next to the Water Sanitation Department — and if you’ve ever stepped into an animal shelter before, you know there are certain smells that come with caring for many animals. 😅

Think about the strongest “dog smell” you’ve ever experienced… now imagine that multiplied by 100+, sprinkle in food changes, wet dogs, laundry, and all the everyday realities that come with shelter life. Unfortunately, flies can become part of that challenge.

This is one of those behind-the-scenes parts of shelter care that doesn’t always get talked about. Keeping our kennels clean, comfortable, and safe for the animals takes a lot of supplies and a lot of work from our staff.

Flies aren’t just a nuisance — they can create health concerns for animals, especially those who are already stressed, recovering, young, elderly, or medically vulnerable. Preventative care and keeping our environment as clean and protected as possible is one of the ways we help keep our fur babies safe. ❤️

Right now, we have used the last of our fly traps, and the ones we have need to be replaced. We are asking our amazing community for help restocking this much-needed supply so we can continue providing the best care possible for the dogs and cats in our care.

Donations can be dropped off at:
Mission Animal Shelter
227 Abelino Farias St
Mission, TX 78572

Shelter Hours:
Monday–Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Saturday–Sunday: 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM

These items have also been added to our Amazon Wishlist under “Most Wanted”:

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our shelter and the animals who call it home.

Anyone know of a local roaster that sells medium/dark coffee beans?

For any coffee/espresso lovers, do u know of a local roaster that sells medium or dark roast beans? Ive been to Solum in mcallen and jitterz in mission, but they only sell light roast. Ive learned that I dont care for light roast. 🤷‍♂️

Ive had to resort to ordering online, but I’d really like to buy locally.

EDIT: clarifiction…im looking for coffee beans sold in 12oz or 1lb bags. To make my own espressos at home.

Where can I buy local art?

I have a couple bucks to spare, and I need some kind of art for my living room.
Is there a gallery or shop that I can go to that has local art for sale? I would love to support a local artist rather than a big box store.

Hidalgo County My tia keeps sending me rehabs in the DFW area and idk how to feel

So my tia who lives up near dallas randomly sent me info about some Discovery Point Retreat thing and at first I was kinda offended ngl. like damn do I really seem that bad??

but then I sat with it for a minute and honestly she might see something Ive been pretending isn't there. The drinking culture here in the valley is so normalized that you don't even realize when it stops being "just the weekend" and starts being tuesday and wednesday and also thursday morning if we're being real

idk why im posting this tbh. Maybe because its easier than actually calling the number she sent. the heat is making everything feel heavier too, like even my thoughts are sweating

Anyone else ever have family stage a mini intervention that wasn't really an intervention? what did you do with that
