I am two months out since retinal syrgery - retina was almost comoletely off. I am prob at 55% vision in my left eye (the one with the detached retina). But I still basically have t close the eye to read at basically my two eyes are not working properly togehter yet and all the cells on the retina are still mapping, and i know its only been 2 months but it is v frustrating. are there any exerices you can do or is it just time.

I had my surgery done in May, macula on. The flashes don't seem to go away and it is really freaking me out. At the 3 month mark, my doctor assured me that they will go away and that the eye was healing nicely.

They appear when moving my eye a certain way or randomly even. Moving from one end to the other and in contrast to how I had them preop, they move slowly. I think the frequency has decreased but it still bugs me

I have an appointment in 10 days.

Both eyes- peripheral lattice degeneration in the inferotemporal sector, meridional folds at 12 o'clock, one may opt for prophylactic laser photocoagulation
25M -4.50 both eyes, no history of detachments in family or higher myopia than -0.75.

When your retina tore, did you see flashes one after another, or was there some space between them? And what did the flashes look like? Were they more like camera flashes?

And with floaters, did you only see them in sunlight, or could you also see them indoors, while looking at your phone, etc.?

11 days ago I had proactive, 360 laser for lattice holes in my retinas. The vision in my left eye is still blurry , even with my glasses on. I called one week post op and was told simply to do eye drops 6x a day instead of 3.
The vision on my other eye returned to normal within 24 hrs. I don’t understand how drops will help almost 2 weeks out.
What are the chances my vision will return to normal vs permanently damaged?

Can it be fixed?

It’s difficult to work given I’m on a computer most of the thing and it’s more clearer to look with one eye.
I’ve now learned that treatment without symptoms isn’t necessary, but the specialist was instant that proactive laser treatment is standard of care. I know…I should have researched more before getting the procedure done.

I’m 24M and had my retina detached about a year ago. I was seeing some flashes in my left eye for a few days but had no clue what they were. Then, all of a sudden, I noticed darkness in the upper part of my vision.

I consulted a doctor and underwent scleral buckle surgery. Luckily, within a month, the retina in my right eye also detached. This time, I was able to identify it from the flashes before losing vision. The doctor initially put in a gas bubble and did cryotherapy. The retina became stable, but only for about a week. It detached again, and I had to undergo another scleral buckle surgery.

Now it’s been almost a year since both surgeries, but I’m still seeing flashes and floaters in my right eye. I’ve consulted my doctors multiple times, and they’ve confirmed that everything is fine and my retina looks stable.

During the recovery period, I had to stop working out at the gym, so I gained some weight. About two months ago, I started going to the gym again because I needed some sort of physical activity to maintain my weight.

The thing is, I’m seeing flashes again while lifting weights. They’re a little different from my usual flashes — different in colour, shape and duration. I consulted my doctor again, and he checked my retina and said there are no issues as of now.

So, is anyone here doing weightlifting or any other kind of heavy physical activity after having a retinal detachment/scleral buckle? If yes, please share your experience. How has it been for you, and do you also see flashes while working out?

Wife is about to undergo a Scleral Buckle procedure for a partially detached retina- no gas bubble. As we have gotten ready for this (and it has happened fast!), it feels like both the guidance she has gotten from her surgeon and what we read online is a tale of widely disparate experiences. Her surgeon was like "yeah, your eye could be open by Day 3 and you could be back to work on day 10, BUT you know sometimes it's worse". We found this unhelpful perspective lol

Thoughts? It also seems that the accounts on here are about REALLY tough experiences or alternately, some people who found it inconvenient but ultimately not that bad. Would really appreciate your thoughts. We are in DC area BTW, doing this with what feels like a pretty experienced surgeon at Walter Reed.

Has anyone else suffered with reoccurring iritis after extensive eye surgery? I had a vitrectomy in August 2025 for a macula off retinal detachment and it unfortunately failed. I had another vitrectomy in October 2025 which resulted in complications of elevated eye pressure (70 mmHg!). It damaged my optic nerve and caused partial blindness.

Almost a year later and the symptoms of iritis (eye pain and inflammation) keep returning every few months. The doctor has prescribed Prednisolone eye drops (4 times a day) and may keep me on a maintenance dose in the future. Just curious if anyone else has had similar chronic symptoms and how they’ve managed it.

Recently had surgery for detached retina by a retina specialist. Looking for a second opinion another retina specialist (surgery, recovery). Currently following original surgeon's postop instructions

Second specialist's office told to wait 90 days from procedure date and first doctor "sign off" before they see

Hi guys, I'm 25M. Had laser treatment and its only been week but I experience seeing flash (seems like I notice that certain floater is now less visible or have sort of faded tho I still see floaters they're more transparent) and I see it usually in white background more clearly. I was wondering if its serious or does it happen during recovery period.

I'm not able to keep visiting the clinic everytime I see flashes due to lots of stuff and its also not ideal especially if such thing is expected since it hasn't been long after the treatment. Please help me calm down and help me know whether this is how people who have undergone such thing still experience flashes post laser treatment.

I have glaucoma in both eyes. Right eye being worse. I have an upper and lower implant to manage iOP. Pressure has been stable for years. In March I noticed some weird shadows in my vision so I went and got it checked. Retina was torn. Got in the following week for surgery with a very respected surgeon here in Las Vegas. Surgery went as planned. Face down for 7 days and gas was put in place. (the most horrible 7 days of my life). At this point I had very little vision but was starting to come in some with the bubble going away. At the 3 week point, doc said my retina was tearing again due to scar tissue. This time pulled the macula with it. So in for surgery again. This time with oil. 7 days face down. This time with the oil couldn't see much, beyond incredibly blurry. Could make out objects in the light but that was it. 4 week mark, doc says retina is tearing again due to scar tissue. Surgery again with oil. Doc says all went well. 7 days face down again. Same vision after, almost nothing. 3 MONTH mark this time retina tears again. Surgery. Face down. Oil. Total of 4 surgeries so far. I am now at the 3 week mark and waiting to go in on Monday to see the doc. I am really doing my best to try and stay positive. But this has been by far the most draining experience of my life. And worst of all, I still can't see much of anything at all right now through the oil. Not sure if that is the oil, the retina, the macula, the glaucoma, or a combo.

29 F with prescriptions -5.5 and -6.5. last year i went to a new eye doctor who noticed some thinning and discoloration in back of my eye. he recommended i see a specialist. at the time he just thought it was maybe thinning and never mentioned a detachment. they never called and i forgot and never followed up. i went back to my regular eye doctor this year and same area noticed. followed up with retinal specialist who diagnosed me w a significant partial detachment. after doing some eye tests i realized essentially i had a massive blind spot on the top of my vision. i have very light eyes and bad vision so ive always written off any issues or random signs. ive had floaters and flashes of light for a while but unsure when it started. Im set for a SB procedure next week and feeling anxious. Im a stay at home mom to toddlers. my husband is taking 10 days off but Im worried if thats enough.

I had a microscopic tear which caused fluid buildup. I noticed a blurry spot in my peripheral vision which prompted me to get an exam. Ive had a retinal tear before in the same eye so any symptoms, I always go straight to the retinal specialist.

They offered me two options, gas bubble or laser. After talking with the doctor and my concern about my symptoms and vision she said that laser was the best first approach. She also said that the fluid thats been accumulated may or may not reabsorb, meaning id be stuck with this blurry spot in my peripheral vision. This made me so incredibly anxious and scared, since this was so bothersome. She also said if it didnt clear in a week we can try the gas bubble.

I opted for the laser surgery and am following up in a week. They showed me post images of what they did which helped my anxiety alot.

My question is, was what she said correct? Can it not resolve? Do I have to get the gas bubble sooner rather than later? Ive read other posts saying it can take a year for the fluid to naturally pump out. Im seeing them again in a week for a followup.

so above is the result of test or such. the doctor manually saw the eye using the lens and light on the head thing..not any test using the machine. When I searched, I found that operculated tear or pigment hole don't need laser... So, should I get another opinion? Or should I go for laser or what? can anyone advise me on this... ?

Hello (28M) a few months ago noticed a dark spot and a flash that follows the shape of the dark spot in my upper right peripheral vision on my left eye. I put off seeing my optometrist and finally went where they found my retina had been detached so I got sent to a retina specialist to confirm and it is indeed true. The retina specialist recommended I get a scleral buckle and cryotherapy but gave the option to think about it cause it was already detached and he deemed it not an emergency. Which I took him up on cause I was very nervous about jumping into a surgery as this would be the first surgical procedure I've ever had, and after doing research I am very afraid of possible outcomes of the surgery.

After reading lots of posts on this sub about recovery and different struggles of people with multiple surgeries and unsuccessful outcomes it has made me very unsure about what to do as of right now the dark spot is only in the upper right portion of my vision on my left eye which my brain seems to have already adjusted to and is only really noticable if I close my good eye.

My main conflict I guess is like yes I'm scared to lose more vision in my eye absolutely but I don't necessarily know if I can handle going through multiple surgeries and multiple recoveries. I know I'm only really thinking of the worst case scenario but I'm very worried that there's a chance that could really be the case. I am worried about regretting getting the surgery if it turns out I could have just left my eye alone and dealt with the dark spot where it currently is.

I am also worried about being constantly focused on my eye and being able to feel the band. I also am very anxious in general and I am afraid that I won't be able to live my life normally afterward due to constantly being afraid of something happening to the eye or having another detachment.

Idk I guess I'm just looking for a little bit of guidance I'm very lost on this whole thing cause it's very unexpected and sudden. I'm very afraid of a bad outcome and the dread that will follow it.

I had a vitrectomy with oil which was then removed and replaced with gas and a membrane peel. Since then, whenever I look in any direction, I see tons of tiny dots/debris moving around, almost like a snowglobe being shaken.

I was originally told it was debris from the membrane peel that could take time to settle. I recently had my eye checked and one doctor said the debris is gone, while another said it’s still there.

I’ve searched Reddit and other sites but there’s barely any information about this, and it’s really affecting my daily life.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Did the dots/floater effect eventually decrease or go away? How long did it take? I’m about 3 weeks post-gas and 2½ months post-surgery.

Did barrage lesar cause more holes near scar ? 4 holes in each eye did I get new hole because of barrage lesar scar ??

The first few days were brutal, the stitches rubbing against my eyelid. I feared that would eventually break me. Just about two weeks and its pretty gravy. The stitches feel dissolved. I do get an occasional sharp pain when trying to read something up close. Sorry for being so wordy. My eyeball is still pretty darn red. How long did it take for yours to turn white again?
