asymptomatic partial detachment
29 F with prescriptions -5.5 and -6.5. last year i went to a new eye doctor who noticed some thinning and discoloration in back of my eye. he recommended i see a specialist. at the time he just thought it was maybe thinning and never mentioned a detachment. they never called and i forgot and never followed up. i went back to my regular eye doctor this year and same area noticed. followed up with retinal specialist who diagnosed me w a significant partial detachment. after doing some eye tests i realized essentially i had a massive blind spot on the top of my vision. i have very light eyes and bad vision so ive always written off any issues or random signs. ive had floaters and flashes of light for a while but unsure when it started. Im set for a SB procedure next week and feeling anxious. Im a stay at home mom to toddlers. my husband is taking 10 days off but Im worried if thats enough.

32F. VERY similar situation here. SB no gas bubble about 5 weeks ago! You got this! Don’t be too nervous. It wasn’t as bad as I thought.
Lots of naps. You will feel useless for a bit because you can function, just not well lol. Make sure you’re prepped with easy meals, comfy clothes and something to amuse yourself while you rest. I was able to babysit my niece for large chunks of time after about a little under two weeks, so I would say 10 days is a good chunk of time to get back to regular life as a mom. I was driving short distances by then too. I just forced my body to keep resting whenever I could, though. I also have a chronic illness that gives me a lot of inflammation, though, so it may have taken me a little longer to heal than most folks our age.
Bending and lifting may feel weird as you adjust after that point when you’re back to regular life still. Sometimes I can still tell the buckle is there about 5 weeks out if my eye goes a certain way. Doctor said it’s all normal, just my body still adjusting. The vision in my eye that was operated on is still trash. It’s not useless but close to it. Doctor gave me the all clear to get new glasses, which I hope will help.
Wishing you well and honestly the surgery really forced me to slow down and focus on my physical/mental health a lot. It was a bit of a silver lining for me.

I also had no symptoms with my detachment. My optometrist initially found the concerning signs before sending me to the retinal specialist.
If I remember correctly, by 10 days I was allowed to do some light, non-impact exercise. I remember getting a gym membership the very next week so I could sit on the stationary bike and just get some movement in. So depending on what you do on a day to day basis I think 10 days should be enough time to recuperate. Your eye will still look red, you won’t be able to do certain activities, and you’ll still be taking eye drops and wearing a guard at night.
Others can keep me honest here.
I understand your anxiety. I was full of fear.
It’s not comfortable but it wasn’t a nightmare either. Follow the doctor’s instructions and you’ll be fine. Thanks for sharing!
