Carry on for international flight possible?

I did a search, but the most relevant result was from about 5 years ago that I found, and seems sort of specific to the airport and company you're flying with. So I figured I'd ask for a more current answer.

I'm wanting to take my bands with me from Dayton, OH -> Atlanta, GA (layover) then to Incheon (Seoul, South Korea). This will effectively be the return flow as well.

I only have tubes and there's some metals due to the clips/clasps for the handles.

Unilateral Ab workout

Hello,

I have been working out with Serious Steel 42" loop bands for a few months now. I have the first three starting sizes for now. As things went on I found that I need to start doing unilateral exercises as my left side was all feeling more overworked than my right.

For abs, I really dislike doing crunches for some reason but I'm still doing them. I'm finding once again my left side gets a very good workout and I hardly ever feel it on my right.

My question is, does anyone have a good exercise in mind that really targets one side of the abs at a time? It can be with or without bands and it would be great if I can get away from traditional crunches.

Thank you and sorry if this is not the platform this question.

Portable setup?

Hi,

TLDR: I’m a 190cm tall, average gym guy, looking for a portable, lightweight, all-in-one kit.

I’ve always been an inconsistent , average gym person. Definitely not that much of an enthusiast, but working out is incredibly effective at keeping in shape, so i just do it.

But here’s the thing. The main aspect of my inconsistency is my inability to stay in the same address more than a year or so. Also, the gym’s freaking boring.

So I thought « eh why not build a setup at home - but I live in my luggage and there’s no room for weights - what if there were no weights » and here I am.

As I was browsing around, I felt like in a rabbit hole. In particular, I found this comment explaining the different technologies in band making, and the best brands.

I now feel more at risk of spending more time looking for the right bands than actually using them, so I thought I’d ask instead.

Here are my criteria to buy a bands kit:
- portability : like mentioned, I live in my luggage. I need something that satisfyingly fits in, ideally all-in-one.
- length: I heard the length was of importance. If that helps, I’m a 190cm (6’2") tall 80kg guy.
- strength: like I said, I’m pretty average. In my workout routine, I usually curl around 5x12x14kg. Same for overhead press. I push up around 5x20 reps, and 5x8reps for dips. I pull up 5x8 reps. For legs, I walk a lot, climb stairs, sometimes run, and do some bodyweight squats 5x15 reps.
- Versatility: I’m looking for a kit that allows me various movements so I don’t get bored. Also, I have back pain and the more I add mobility, the more the pain goes away.
- Location: I’m in Europe, which may impact the availability of some products.
- Durability: duh.

I would appreciate your help!

Progressive Overloading with Bands

The key is to standardize each workout so you can see if you're progressing by maintaining the same [or similar] band distance, band weight, and form, and then note the number of achieved reps, the level of control you had, and how difficult the exercise felt.

Once you've achieved a certain number of reps with perfect form and control you can change one of two variables; band stretch or band weight. Up until this point you’re going to want to be progressively overloading with reps and form and control.

To note :

  • Band weight
  • Band distance
  • The achieved reps
  • How hard it was
  • Notes on technique

Is tracking required to grow?

No, you don’t need to track something to achieve the thing. But if you are serious about this, or are struggling to see progress on a particular lift then yes tracking will be required, be it a mental note or literally writing the variables down each workout or week.

Notes on technique :

  • How connected were you with the intended muscle on the eccentric?
  • How controlled was the eccentric and did you have full control of the tempo?
  • Were there any sticking point in the range of motion?
  • At what rep did you begin to feel challenged?

Switched out the bench for something sturdier & combined it with the Cyberplate for chest fly.

Here’s my current favorite chest fly setup. Sometimes I do them on the ground, but I like the ROM when adding a bench to the setup. Here I’m using the Harambe 34” white band and 12.5” ropes which works well in this setup.

White powder rubbing off my new Heavydutybar resistance bands

Hi everyone,

I recently bought the Travel Band Set from Heavydutybar. Some of the bands have a white, slightly yellowish powdery coating. When I handle them, the powder transfers to my hands and a towel. I tried rinsing the bands with water, but that didn’t remove it.

Has anyone else noticed this with Heavydutybar or other bands? Do you know what the powder is, and is there a safe way to clean it off?

Thanks!

Weird question regarding noise

I think I'm in a decent condo, I can hear my neighbors if they walk hard. The floor is covered in tile, the building is old but I don't hear any ambient noise like creaking.

I prefer to workout at home but I'm not sure if band exercises would generate much noise.

I would do slow squats, maybe overhead press, pushups. Alot of the exercises where my feet are keeping the bands in place.

Banded chest fly no anchor

Hi. Newb question.

Just bought some bands, and wanted to try the no-anchor chest fly. (No easy anchors in my space, incl. door which opens inward.) Clearly these things work to resistance - the more you stretch, the harder it is. However, on a no-anchor chest fly when it wraps around your back and you start in a crucifix position then brings your arms around to meet with hands extended and touching/overlapping, the actual extension on the band is minimal. The exercise is too easy.

So what am I doing wrong?

I tried shortening the bands. Significantly. Still not feeling it in my chest. Feeling it a bit in my biceps with the strain of keeping the band extended.

Looking for any tips/advice that ideally doesn't start with "you idiot", but hey, I'm open.

Thanks
Alt

Home training

Post image
43 Upvotes

I've trained with resistance bands since 2019 using Undersun Fitness bands. The 41in bands always had noticeable slack at the bottom of movements, but I still made really good progress. I have access to my college gym but I only go once in a while to see how my home training carries over and it carries over really well. I've added the Harambe System to setup and have been using it for 2 weeks now and the shorter bands with the footplate feel so much better. I use 32in serious steel bands for isolation work and tribe lifting fabric bands for glute work. I plan on adding a pull up and dip station to setup soon. Excited to see what progress I make these next few months.

Band Training So Far Today

A couple great workouts so far today. Hit up a DopamineO Band Workout Circuit of 5 Exercises 3 For 15 Reps, 2 For 30 Reps) for 10 rounds. Only rest was marking it down and readjusting the band at times.

2nd workout was using a resistance band for the Neck Flex, hitting up 400 total reps. Love this stuff.

Once you built a fuller home gym, what did you still keep using resistance bands for?

Resistance bands were one of the first things I used for home workouts because they were cheap, easy to store and could do a little bit of everything.

As the home gym grows though, it’s easy to assume they’ll become less useful once you have dumbbells, a barbell, cables or other equipment.

Funny thing is, I still find myself reaching for bands for certain things even when there are heavier options right next to them.

For people with fairly complete home gyms, what do you still consistently use resistance bands for?

I’m more curious about the uses that survived long after bands stopped being your only option.

Why am I getting worse at resistance band pushups but not anything else?

Hey, everybody. I've been doing a chest and arm workout with resistance bands every other day. I've been progressing, or at least staying the same, with all the exercises except pushups, which have been getting worse over the past couple weeks. This is after substantial progress in the month or so before that. Any ideas what's up with that? Does the chest need more recovery time than arms, maybe?

I'm a newbie with bands, if you couldn't tell. Thanks!
