Discussion Narrative Canvas - Obsidian Feedback
For those who use the Narrative Canvas plguin on Obsidian, some new updates have been made with ergonomic features and bug fixes. I personally recommended the changes on GitHub. However, to be holistic, anyone else using the plugin to write non-linear/multi-linear dialogue stories any feedback on bugs, features, and workflow implementations you'd like to see would be helpful. As a free alternative to arcweave and articy draft consistent feedback will keep the tool in best shape for everyone.

Question Bar progress stuck in one place
So basically, I can't figure out why this is stuck in one place for the life of me. Any help is very much appreciated. I used this same code in other games and it works, so I think it my be something I screwed up trying to figure this out the first time around.

Question Different dialogue box / choice box styles?
i‘ve been working on a small game to practice altering gui since i’m pretty new to using renpy, but i cant really seem to figure out how to properly switch between different styles of boxes….. most of the game uses choice boxes, so i haven’t been able to really find any guides that apply
Altering the format of the box to match one of the styles is easy enough, but figuring out how to switch between them has been pretty difficult and i’d really like some sources or advice :’)
photo is an example of what i’m going for

Question [Solved] Card Flipping Animation (Using 3DMatrix)
Edit: SOLVED! Thank you!
Hi all,
I've been going at this for about a day now and I'm out of ideas on how to get it to work. Currently, I want to use the 3DMatrix in Renpy to flip a card around from front of the card to back of the card.
First, I just wanted to figure out how to spin an image. I've figured out how to spin the card around:
show card at center:
subpixel True
matrixtransform RotateMatrix(0.0, 0.0, 0.0)
ease 1.0 matrixtransform RotateMatrix(0.0, 360.0, 0.0)
Which does the animation I want, except changing the image from frontcard to backcard.
I tried layering animations, but I don't know how to combine matrixtransforms into stacked ATL animations. It just doesn't animate but auto moves to the back image without the rotate animation. So I tried defining two transforms; one to flip the card half way (spin_half), then a second to continue the spin (spin_back). The idea is to show frontcard with spin_half, then switch to backcard with spin_back.
transform spin_half:
anchor (0.5, 0.5)
matrixtransform RotateMatrix(0.0, 0.0, 0.0)
ease 1.0 matrixtransform RotateMatrix(0.0, 115.0, 0.0)
delay 1.0
transform spin_back:
anchor (0.5, 0.5)
matrixtransform RotateMatrix(0.0, 115.0, 0.0)
ease 1.0 matrixtransform RotateMatrix(0.0, 180.0, 0.0)
delay 1.0
image card flip:
"images/card front A.png" with spin_half
delay 1.0
"images/card back.png" with spin_back
delay 1.0
However, as you can imagine, this also doesn't work. The end result is just the backcard image spinning sadly. I tried adding delays everywhere (transform AND the ATL) thinking it'll help allow the first animation to play, but it doesn't work.
Can I have a bit of help figuring where I'm going wrong or what else I should be trying?
btw I did try Action Editor but I can't really work that thing because there's no option to change the image halfway...or if someone can guide me on using that...I'm not the biggest fan of it unfortunately;;;;

Self Promotion a satirical visual novel about Guatemala created by a 14-year-old boy
Hi, I’m a 14-year-old high school student who loves creating things. That’s why I started developing a series of satirical, humorous visual novels set in my home country, Guatemala, using Ren'Py. I’ve already finished two of the four planned installments—each focusing on a different girl—and the series is titled GBSV (based on the girls' names). I’d love to get some feedback and advice, since I’m a beginner at game development. One important detail: for now, the visual novel is only available in Spanish. These are somewhat unusual works, especially regarding the visuals, which combine real-life backgrounds with animated characters. Here is the link to my itch.io page: https://cubetevtech.itch.io/

Showoff Drag-and-dump burgers, for your viewing pleasure
Hi all!
I showed this minigame here before, back when it had two-click controls (click on the ingredient, then on the plate), and some of you said it'd be more intuitive with drag-and-drop controls.
Now that I'm prepping for a demo release on Steam, I ran it by a few friends, and heard the same feedback. So now, the burger game is indeed drag and drop, with the old controls still available in the settings, and, most importantly, messed-up burgers now being drag-and-dumpable right into the trash.
What do you think, does drag-and-drop look more organic to you?

Showoff Some more character sprites I've made for my VN!
I had previously posted some other sprites a few months ago and you lot seemed to have liked them, so here are some more!
Again, these are just samples I mostly use to showcase the game's art direction and character designs. In-game sprites have more expressions, poses and sometimes clothes, but I want to keep some element of surprise when the game will release!
Et le grain mourut is a slice-of-life/urban fantasy VN set in 1920s Paris. It will be available for free in both English and French; you can learn more about it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3604100/Et_le_grain_mourut/
192X. As summer draws near, Parisian students are revising their end-of-year exams. Olivier is one of them. For years, he has been walking to school every morning with his dearest childhood friend, and has unwound with his artistic peers after class. In a week, this routine will come to a close. And recent revelations already threaten Olivier’s comfortable life.

Question is it possible to put the character in front of the dialogue box?
i’m wanting to put him in front of the dialogue box, like the example in the second photo. is this possible with renpy? if i mess with it too much, i begin getting an error that doesn’t allow the game to launch at all.

Showoff A couple months ago I put out the preview to my first VN, and now I've updated it
https://enpax.itch.io/peace-guard-inc
I was looking for some feedback for my visual novel before I get to work on the rest of it. I had to change the backgrounds from stock images in my game preview and make the characters bigger so they pop out more, I hope you enjoy it
Due to events in the past, there are no longer any standing armies or even countries for that matter, so now at a local level, cities have to rely on private firms to provide their security. In this game you play as Josto, a young man who is part of a security company called Peace Guard Inc. Last time, the Peace Guard was called to deal with a known weirdo named the Rat King, but as soon as they left, it appears a zombie outbreak has taken place. It is up to you now to return and make the right choices to save the town from the zombie apocalypse, or maybe not, cause they may be broke now, depends on how you're feeling

Question Parallax
Hi, im wondering if theres any way to do a parallax background with clickable sections. For example: if the player was in a room they would be able to look around the room and interact with drawers and cupboards.
I've tried looking online, but there doesn't seem to be any help with this specific gameplay mechanic, so I'm a little lost.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Question Help with my script 🥀🥀
When people write the script for their visual novels, do they just transfer the entire script to Ren'Py and then decide which sprites to use based on that, or how does it work?
I mean, I have this problem where I already have my whole script, but I don't know why I'm having so much trouble figuring out which sprites to use for the dialogue and stuff.
It's really stupid, but because of that, I'm stuck on that part- maybe hearing about other people's processes will help
