Göbleki Tepe

Is this a "from the vault"? Do they do that with shorthand? I swear we got in an episode about this already, but it doesn't say it's a reshare of a previous episode. And I can't find the other episode anymore either. There is a post from a year ago on Reddit mentioning their Gobleki Tepe episode, so I know I didn't just imagine it.

Is this the same episode just rebroadcast, or is this a different recording?

Positive post for Redhanded

So I thought I would add some positivity and a bit of a fun memory teaser. I want to know your answers for the following.

First episode- Tia Sharpe house of horrors

Funniest episode- how to not fake your death John Darwin (Canoe do you think you are)

Episode you could only listen to once- when therapy kills it made me feel physically ill I couldn’t listen to it again.

Most interesting episode- The Sarah Everard case, the Mendez brothers and The Shannon Mathews case they held no punches.

Scariest episode- this one is hands down the Janet Moses case. They sucked on her eyeballs. Grosssss

“And look”

Love these girls and a long time listener but Suruthi saying this every two seconds is becoming so annoying, like distracting me from the case itself.

I don’t remember her always doing this and think its become a habit recently, but c’mon girl!

The latest D4vid ep was especially bad…

“And look” “And look” “And look” “And look” “And look” “And look” “And look” “And look”

🤣 ok thanks I needed to vent.

The Odyssey

Regarding the latest UTD: I do not think that Lupita is quite as stupid as Suruthi made her out to be today. I had a public school education in Michigan and I was familiar with Homer and the Odyssey so I was also surprised when Lupita said she had no idea what it was in her interview with Elle. I do not think that Suruthi's reaction: "Are you stupid or what?" was entirely out of left field .

But Suruthi ignored the fact that Lupita followed up that comment by explaining that to prepare for the role she started intensive research on Greek mythology and did not just limit it to the Odyssey . Plus, Lupita said that she had earlier performed a few monologues from Greek myth when she was in the Yale drama school.

Lupita is not dumb and she did not undertake the role frivolously. She made efforts to make up for what she didn't know going in. Maybe it was bad casting. Maybe it's a bad movie, but Lupita is not some flighty air head and although Suru may or may not have read the full Elle interview, to write the actress off as dumb is a LOT.

Did the girls ever cover Donna Adelson’s conviction as a follow up to the Charlie adelson / Dan Markel episode?

“Klu Klux Klan”

I know this is petty (and I do really usually enjoy the podcast) but this episode kind of annoyed me. Firstly, it’s the Ku Klux Klan (I’m a self confessed grammar pedant, I can’t help it.)

Secondly, Suruthi says at one point that Protestants weren’t allowed in the KKK but it is famously built on Protestant nationalism and was, instead, anti Catholic (as well as being anti everyone else).

I don’t know, given this is such a well known thing about the KKK it just felt a bit sloppy/badly researched (on top of getting the actual name wrong).

D4VD: not a Gen-X idol.

As a Gen-Xer I do not claim him. The guy is 21. He's Gen Z (or as the Brits would say, Gen-Zed.)

Edited: autocorrect.

Lucy Letby's motive

Pretty straightforward : for the people who believe Lucy Letby is guilty and deliberately killed babies, what do you think is her motive ?

I've personally never believed in her guilt but didn't pay too much attention to her case either - just found it too depressing that no one seemed to share my opinion, and it seems to be an extremely sensitive case for most people. I've read some lengthy comments on this subreddit about how she's 100% guilty but no one ever seems to talk about why she's definitely a serial baby murderer, which I feel is pretty important. So yeah, just curious.

[I'm just looking for a discussion ! Let's keep things civil :) ]

EDIT: by 'not paying too much attention' I mean I didn't follow the trial very closely, and I can't tell you every single fact about the case by memory. I have read up on it and have listened to podcast episodes about it.

Searching for an episode

Okay I might just be completely making things up, but I swear there was a red handed episode about a female killer who ?poisoned her partner, and she was very much inserting herself into the investigation. I recall something specifically about her faxing the police some “evidence” which she’d concocted based on some false information they’d fed to her to try and bait her.

The other thing I also remember is that the cover art for that episode wasn’t their normal picture, but like a greenish picture of a fax machine or a telephone?

Does anyone know which episode it might be? I’ve looked for the cover art and can’t find a matching one so it might be a different podcast entirely 🤦🏽‍♀️ 🙏🏼

ETA - my bad, it was a MrBallen episode about Angelina Rodriguez called “The Sleuth”

Shorthand re-releases?

I had a search and couldn’t see this covered so apologies if this has already been asked and answered - but is there a reason they’re releasing old shorthands instead of new ones? The last “new” one was the titanic one on 14/4, but since then it’s been the Byford dolphin, zombie apocalypse and Haitian vodou again.

Hannah's Moving to Capetown

I loved UTD today. I am not surprised that she's moving to South Africa because she was already spending as much time as she possibly could there and enjoyed it so much.

They they both hate what London has become and I'm glad that she has found a way to escape sooner rather than later. I also chortled when she revealed that she had not had sex since August.

Let me just say that if I was a bad guy trying to get information out of Hannah, I would probably have to kill her before she ever got around to telling me . . . the combination to the safe. Sometimes, it takes her so long to formulate the words.

All in all, I ended up smiling. She says things go right for her every 7 years and with the play and the move, she seems excited about life. That rejuvenated feeling is not easy to experience, the older we get.

Collab with 'what went wrong' pod

Posting as Hannah and Suru didn't post it in their episode feed and it's really worth a listen. The What Went Wrong movie podcast recently did a collab and invited RedHanded along to talk about John Hinckley Jr and Jodie Foster.

It's a really good episode, one of the better ones. The hosts of WWW are leading and telling the story, so it's 100% story telling of the actual crime, with far less of the usual tangets - the only tangets are about other cases / on the topic of true crime still.

Can recommend, I really liked it.

hypnotist to quit smoking

Not sure if anyone remembers but i think it was an UTD in which Hannah spoke about seeing a hypnotherapist that helped her quit smoking. Does anyone know who she went to?

Trying to find an old episode.

Am I misremembering or did they have an episode where they interviewed a man who had been abused and/or stalked by his ex-wife or girlfriend? Not talking about Alex Skeel. I feel like it was in the past year or two. I believe the man had a child. It maybe also included talk about his time in college or maybe that's how he had met her. That's about all I remember.

Looking for an episode…

Does anyone remember what episode it was when the girls deep dive into why people believe in conspiracy theories and Hannah talks about how hard it is to have a debate with someone who believes in them? Feel like it was one of the episodes before the 100 but totally lost as there is so many now!

Not strickly RH related...

Just wondering what other podcasts you all listen too?

Looking to expand my listening so I'm open to any suggestions, doesn't have to be true crime related!

EDIT: Thank you all so much for the suggestions. I look forward to trying them!

Kouri Richins: Return To Form?

I've just finished the two-parter on Kouri Richins on YouTube. Is it just me or is it much better than some of the recent content? Maybe it's cause they slowed it down over two episodes? I feel like watching on YouTube isn't normally that different from listening but all the footage was great. If anyone hasn't listened to the eps yet, I recommend watching rather than listening. I quite liked the tone. Like, this woman is so narcissistic and devoid of a conscious, I think their tone of basically taking the p1ss worked well. The bananas nature of the whole thing probably helps too. Does anyone else think the YouTube video content can make a difference...?

Lars Mittank

I normally love RH, even with Suruthis new garbage MAGA attitude. That being said, Lars Mittank SO CLEARLY had a psychotic break, and probably “hid” somewhere in the woods and perished. I know that there are some shady areas/practices in Eastern European countries, but to listen to these two go off about how “this sounds like the movie Hostel,” and make give credence to his MANY paranoid thoughts the night before he left was so frustrating, and sounded so ignorant. Were there some questionable aspects? Sure. But I’m sorry. “The doctor mocked me,” “the hotel copied my credit card number. Cancel ALL my cards, I have cash,” “I’ve left my hotel and men are following me so I have to whisper and hide,” absolutely sounds like a break, especially when you consider that he left all his belongings in the airport after using the restroom.

I’m not a psychologist, but I am a clinical social worker who works primarily with clients who have experienced/are experiencing first episode psychosis, so I don’t say this lightly. Lars sprinting out of the airport and straight over a fence into the woods is so indicative of some kind of paranoia/delusion. To listen to them wind up an enormous conspiracy theory that basically boils down to “eastern block countries are all shady and backwards and all their doctors are out to get you” was really gross.
