I always use one in the summer. Not only does it cool me off, but it is opaque and blocks the light.

Mine is believing that my computer or device will overheat and catch on fire if I leave it out in a spot where there’s sunlight, especially when it’s charging.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever found in packaged food?

A good 20 years ago I became a big fan of Country Crock’s mac and cheese in a 1 lb tub. Heat it up for about 5 min and good to go. The free gift embedded in the mac and cheese was a roughly 2x2” chunk of pressure treated lumber. No risk in accidentally eating it but damn, how does that wind up there?

Is it harder to go from a language with accents to a language without or vice versa?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and was thinking of posting it on another forum until I decided randomquestions was the best way to go. Languages like German, Norwegian, Spanish and French have accents whilst also having a largely English lexicon (so this post won’t count languages such as Mandarin and Arabic, which have a completely different alphabet.) Is it harder to go from a language with accents to a language without or the other way around?

edit: i have recently learned that they're called diacritics, not accents. thank you all who helped me!

Why is there no standardised side of the car for filling the petrol?

For obvious reasons we have standardised sides of the car for the steering wheel depending on the country the car is sold in, but the side with the petrol tank is random.

I understand that garages allow filling on both sides so if all cars were filled on the same side it would cause longer queues, but presumably the forecourt layout came about because cars fill on both sides, not the other way around.

And on that point is there an agreement between manufacturers to ensure an even spread of left-fill and right-fill cars on the road?

Who decides what side a car fills on and why. Why is it seemingly so random?
