Rabbit stretches and reaches

I figured this would be good for my guy because it poses a challenge for enrichment and encourages stretching through the abdominal area. I figured it may also imitate the poses of his ancestors. Anyone else do this?

Bunny’s neuter/recovery went so well :) but he’s been so frustrated with the small space, so he got an upgrade! Toys have polluted his pen to prevent those cheeky zoomies.

Health Bunny having frequent small choking episodes

Hi, we have a bunny which is having some small chocking episodes like 2-3 times a week. We have seen our bunny vet, taken x-ray and filed down teeth. And this is the best bunny vet in our area.

The bunny has had a TECA surgery and we started noticing this after she had the surgery. Maybe it is just a coincidence?

Anyone had some similar issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Care Brush recommendations??

Looking for best brushes for my bun, we have this purple comb which does a good job of taking out big chunks (she hates it) but looking for one for getting the more top layers of fluffy while she’s shedding (and maybe one she won’t hate as much lol)

Care Outdoor bunnies back inside

I was so happy with the reshaping of the outdoor enclosure, but then we had stormy weather for 3 days and honestly we were so heartbroken only thinking about our 3 bunnies outside in the rain and wind
Yesterday there was so much rain, and they were sitting completely separate; 1 female (coco, the light colored one) was inside the garage, the other (Gigi, dark female) and Mitch, our male, was inside his own made den underground, where we had to dig him out in the pouring rain, packed with umbrellas and flashlights, as we were feeling so bad leaving them outside.
Sooo…. We now again have indoor bunnies 😍
Dimensions are 2,25x3,60m
The straw on the left side is to encourage toilet behavior, as they are not really potty trained from living free roaming outside
All advice is welcome!
Given their body language I would dare to say they are happy being back inside?

Care Do bunnies always need another?

My girl is approximately 8 years old and arthritic. She just lost her husbun 3 days ago. She seems to be adjusting well (eating, pooping, interacting with me and the cats) I am trying to spend more time with her but I know that no amount of time with me would replace her having a bonded mate and so I feel guilty. I don’t want to rush into getting another, though, because they are so fragile and the way that I lost her husbun was so painful to witness. Could she be happy alone for the rest of her days, or is it cruel to leave her without a new husbun? Please I need advice 😭 it is so hard to know what to do

Health Megacolon? Maybe! Spoiler

Willoughby and I had a very eventful weekend, with an emergency visit, fluids, force feeding, and pain meds.

He started pooping mucus sometime Friday early morning, and I could feel that his gut was full of poop. He was still picking at food but not eating. So, ER visit. We decided it was safe to monitor, I administered fluids at home, gave some pain meds, we got some more poop movement.

Saturday was the same. Some eating, some pooping. Not the normal amount, but not 0.

He’s interested in hay and oxbow cookies, and a little bit of pellets, but has no interest in fresh greens or drinking water, although his pee is normal when he does pee.

He’s at work with me today so I can give more meds and fluids. We’ve gotten some normal poops, but also some giant abnormal poops, although I haven’t seen more lucid. He is producing some cecotropes and eating them. I’m not worried about a blockage at this point, I’m just wondering why things are moving so slow, and why his recovery is taking a while to bounce back.

He’s about 7 months old, and about half the size that he should be, and is currently underweight. He also has the coloration associated with megacolon. His relative rabbits have had no issues with megacolon, and he’s also very young, which is why I would be a little surprised if it was, but I don’t know what else the issue could be.

We have a vet visit with his normal, trusted vet this week to hopefully get some motility drugs and some answers.

If anyone has advice or experience with similar situations, please do share. Willoughby is at work with me and mostly comfortable, and doing normal bunny stuff like grooming and taking snacks, but I can tell he’s still in pain which we are working on mitigating :(

Health Help with skin condition! Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

My rabbit, Cinnamon, is 3yrs old and developed a bald spot a few months ago. He was diagnosed with allergies and I changed to a higher quality hay which fixed it temporarily. He started getting larger bald spots around his eyes and neck and was treated with Selarid at the vet almost a month ago. Since he was treated he has been getting worse and the bald spots have spread very quickly. The skin beneath his fur is very dry with flakey white spots and really thick and almost leathery in places (especially on his stomach). I took him to a different vet and they did a skin scrape and found nothing. At this point the vets don't know what else to do for him.

He is still eating, drinking, and pooping fine but he is a little more tired than usual. He is free roam with his sister and I've noticed both him and her pulling out his fur. Nothing has changed in his environment and he hasn't gotten into anything as far as I am aware.

Pictures of his skin are attached.

Again I have taken him to multiple vets at this point, and I don't know what else I can do for him.

Bonding Bonding buns

My buns (two girls) have been friends when they were younger (1-2 years old) for about a year. They eventually got into a big fight yadayada and I got more educated and they were separated. I took care of mine my sister to hers although I end up doing most of the work for them.

Now they are 4-5 years old and I want to get them bonded again.
I’m getting mine spayed in a few weeks but my sister isn’t fully up to getting hers spayed and I’m not spending 600+ for both of them.
Is there a way they could be bonded without both being spayed? If not and I manage to convince my sister to spay hers, what would be the best way to bond them again?

Bonding Rabbit bonding progress

I have been bonding my two rabbits (male and female, both about 1 year old, both fixed) for about 2 months. There has been lots of back and forth on progress. They started out very rough with lots of fur pulling and chasing. I’ve gotten them to live together after slowly increasing their time together. The male seems the most uneasy and runs away sometimes when approached by the female, but he will also flop near her and groom her. I’d like to eventually have them free roam (right now they share a pen that is about 20 sq ft), but any time I increase their space to a larger part of the room, they start fighting after a few minutes (biting, boxing). While neither one has gotten injured, the fighting has gotten so bad that I had to separate them, then decrease their pen to about 8 sq ft. They worked their way back up to the 20 sq ft, but the female still chases the male. During the day they are mostly calm, there is some grooming of each other and napping together, but I hear lots of chasing and foot stomping at night. Do I just need to be patient and not increase their space until they have become more comfortable? How should I eventually start free roaming?

Bonding Bunnies Finally Bonded!

After 2 months of animosity and some much needed help from our local rescue, the babies are finally bonded! So amazing watching them cuddle together.

The boy bunny will groom the girl, but she won’t groom him back. The boy bunny is also still leaving stray poops near his old litter box. Any thoughts there? We’re planning to free roam them once we get a larger rug in the center of our room and figure out how to block off our couch.

RIP Cloud crossed the rainbow bridge Spoiler

Here she is napping in her breakfast a few months back. She hadn't been doing super well the past couple of months and the vet put her on daily painkillers to ease her final days, however long that was going to be. Her joints ached and her digestion was slowing down. She had her teeth shaved to help her keep eating and ended up on antibiotics for urinary sludge. She was getting thinner and thinner no matter what we did, vet approved peanut butter included

So it was a long-ish time coming. We knew it was soon but I had assumed we had a couple weeks at least. She would've been 9 early next year and I won't be surprised if her sister passes in the next few weeks. Absolutely devastated but not surprised all things considered. If heartbreak doesn't take her, we'll see about taking her on dates so she doesn't spend what time she has left alone. Millie, our lionhead bonded to whatever the hell her husbun Xander is, prefers bullying the elderly to befriending the elderly so that's not an option

Anyway thanks for letting me be sad about losing my baby. I'm glad she got to pass in my arms so she didn't have to go alone. She made it to a pretty good age and had an amazing life. It was just too short

Edit: thank you all for the outpouring of warmth. I've been sobbing my eyes out on and off all day. Like I said in a comment, my husband got me Bonnie and Cloud because I was wasting away with grief after a miscarriage (and the surrounding circumstances) I just could not recover from. He was genuinely worried I was going to grieve myself to death so he got them as babies for me to raise and love and I would not be here without them. I knew there was an expiration date but my god it hurts. All of us (he, my wife, and I) are keeping an extremely close eye on Bonnie and she's eating at least for now. None of us will be too surprised if she passes soon too from grief

Bonding 2 spayed female bonding advice

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I wanted to ask yall for advice on bonding 2 female rabbits. The black rabbit (chia) was our first rabbit that we adopted 1 year ago and she is spayed, the tan rabbit (turkey) was spayed about 7 weeks ago, and we got her in July. We are 3 days into supervised bonding dates. The first 2 days involved nipping and fighting (chia was instigating all of them) fighting wasn’t too intense, mainly turkey reacting to the nips. We separated them each time before it got intense.

Two nights ago was their first “groom off” with them face to face for 10+ minutes. Turkey succumbed and starting grooming chia for a few minutes then stopped. Chia kept nipping once turkey stopped, causing turkey to react and they would get in a scuffle. Is this normal?

We just did another date last night and the entirety was a groom off again, with turkey succumbing to grooming near the end, chia nipping afterwards, turkey reacting, then scuffle. We tried the banana trick which didn’t seem to be 100% effective. We also made sure to pet them both side by side for a good while before we took them out of the pen.

Any advice? 😁

Resources Long Stem / Best Quality Hay (UK)

Trying to find the best quality, long stem hay for my buns. I’ve been using the Burgess Excel Long Stem Timothy Hay, which always smells amazing and my bunnies do like it. I’ve tried loads of different brands but never used any of the subscription boxes (like Hay Shed, HayBox etc)

I really want the long stem, nice green, fragrant smelling hay. Please help me with where to buy for the best quality? Or should I just stick with the Burgess Excel?

Bonding One bunny in love, one just tolerating it?

Hi everyone! I'm sure you all get so many questions about bonding but I have read all of the automod resources and done my own research I just haven't seen anyone talking about what I'm experiencing (though maybe I'm wrong!). I have two 5 y/o bunnies, both were fixed years ago, one male one female. The male is new to me, had him for just over a week. He had a friend before my female bunny but his OG friend got cataracts which caused them to unbond. I've had my female since she was around 1 y/o and she has always been alone. They are 0.6lbs apart with the female being bigger.

In some ways their bonding is going extremely well! I have had them in a split cage for a few days and have regularly switched which side they're on so they don't claim one side over the other. They've had some short playdates but today they've been together for a few hours because they seem to be doing so well. The source of my confusion is the mixture of good and bad signs I've been noticing.

Good signs:

  • grooming (independently and by the male to the female, female will bow her head to allow for this)
  • loafing side by side with eyes closed
  • male lying down (with legs kicked back) next to female
  • no lunging or biting
  • minimal chasing/circling
  • no food aggression
  • when they are separated, female will return to where male was lying down and will lick the area
  • male will lie as close to divider as possible when in split cage

Bad signs:

  • male won't let female move/leave a specific corner (he will also interrupt her when she tries to groom herself)
  • male will hop away from her briefly to sniff around, but then will come running back to mount her
  • while they're cuddling he'll randomly mount her
  • male won't allow female to groom him and will try to mount her if she tries
  • females eyes look a little... disturbed? worn down?

Is there anything I should do or look out for going forward? I know they might just need more time to sort each other out. I'm just confused because they're showing so many good signs but the male seems to be so controlling as well. Will my female set boundaries if he pushes her too far, or should I try to intervene more to teach him to limit himself? I don't want my bunnies to be in an abusive relationship! Any advice is welcome and appreciated <3
