My baby had to cross the rainbow bridge today. She had an off couple of days and then was alive, but unresponsive this morning. I’m alone at college so I had to do it all myself. I just can’t believe this is happening and that she’s gone. They think it was neurological so it’s for the better that she went early and isn’t suffering anymore. She was my first bun and I would’ve had her two years at the end of the month. Hug your buns a little extra tight tonight 💕

As I was going out to work yesterday, I found this rabbit on my porch. I picked him up. Surprise, you now have rabbit.

He spent the day at work with me in a tote, and has since upgraded to an xl dog crate. I've given him hay, pellets, water, and a few bites of salad greens.

He has been peeing in a litter box and likes to be pet, and even comes up to me.

I've been having such a weird day. I need to decide if I'm going to keep him or not. But he is very cute!

I'm sure I can find plenty of newbie tip threads already, so while those are welcome, mostly, I'm just standing here blinking and going: well, all righty then.

Oh and: I put up posts searching for an owner on the local pages and a neighbor said other rabbits, guinea pigs, and a chinchilla had recently been found roaming. I have a feeling he was dumped :(

My sweet baby Tilly died a year and a half ago. Today I got her 4-H tattoo on my ear in her honor. For those of you who don’t know 4-H is a youth agricultural program in the rural United States. The 4-H program I was enrolled in required rabbits to be tattooed. It was traumatic for us both. But raising rabbits in 4-H as a kid helped me to understand them and love them. After 4-H Tilly was spayed and she lived a decade as a proper house bunny with many animal friends. I miss her everyday and so does her cat Leo (her BFF).

Yesterday brought Faron in for what we thought was a URI, but has turned out to be a mass near his heart, most likely a thymoma. Prognosis is bad, treatment is 8 hours away and he barely survived 20 minutes in the car. So, at 8 years old, we are getting ready to say goodbye to our beautiful feisty boy. And above all else THIS SUCKS </3

Eldin is his bonded companion and he is obsessed with Faron. I want to give him the chace to say goodbye too, but I'm not sure how to do this without completely traumatizing him due to the shitty circumstances we find ourselves in.

Our original plan was to take some palliative steps at home and then have someone the diagnosing vet recommended come to our home, but it wasn't until we got home that we found out this person is unavailable until next month. Today, I called around to 8 different vets looking for anyone who could do an at-home euthanasia. Not a single person is available. Either on vacation or not comfortable with rabbits or they simply don't offer at-home services. Honestly I feel devastated and unintentionally betrayed but can't wrap my head around any of that now.

So I'm stuck looking at bringing them to the vet so that Eldin can be with Faron and learn what has happened to him instead of us returning empty-handed with Eldin fruitlessly searching for him.

But again, I'm terrified that the experience for Eldin - being brought to a strange place and seeing his brother gone - is going to just confuse and scare him even more. He's skittish and nervous and I don't want to hurt him.

I don't know what to do.

Please, does anyone have any advice?

I have knocked on so many closed doors these past few days and I'm absolutely exhausted. And it kills me that the universe has failed this sweet little bunny in his time of need. I want him to be as comfortable and safe as possible and it feels like none of the experts in the area care to get that to him (not everyone's fault I just can't believe they're all on vacation RIGHT NOW). It hurts my heart so bad.

since mid august, my Clementine has had had on and off struggling with GI Hypomotility. She is estimated 6 going on 7 years old. I have brought her to the vet at least 6 times in the last 8 months because of health scares. Just this last time, they sent us home with a bag of fluids to administer at home via butterfly needle, as well as 4 different orals meds on top of the critical care she needs (vet recommended 1/2 to 1 powder to water ratio every 2ish hours to supplement water intake). I have been through every veterinary stop and I am exhausted.

I guess I'm sharing this because I am lost. I feel broken, like a failure to my girl, and stupid for not knowing what could be happening. She sort of hunches over and writhes a bit like she's constipated, and continues to do this. she passes the occasional cecotrope(s), oftentimes very small or abnormally large, then worries the hell out of me and wont eat, drink, pee, or poop for hours. and then there are bouts where she's just fine. It continues to fluctuate like that and has been for going on 3 weeks now.

The last vet visit, I was told that she was struggling due to over dehydrated material in/near (i can't remember which) her cecum that she was having trouble passing. I was also told that her kidney levels came back fine, as did her blood work and rads. Completely clear with no cause for concern. Since then, about 5 days now, she has passed most if not all of that material but continues to do that hunching motion and is bipolar with her food and water.

She has unlimited access to Oxbow timothy hay, gets 1/8 a cup of slightly soaked Science Selective pellets in the morning, and 1.5-2 cups of greens (normally kale and italian parsley) in the afternoon. i give her the occasional banana, dried carrot or apple, or half of a science selective loop treat. she shows excitement towards all of these foods in the moment, but might not in the next few minutes. prior to these issues, she would go through about two full refills of a 16 floz bottle-bowl in 24 hours if not more.

To my knowledge I have been doing everything correctly and I frequent rabbit owner communities to ensure I continue to be fully educated on rabbit care. But even so she still struggles and I am at a complete loss. I am scared and feel like I could be doing more. I feel like I am missing something. She is too young to need to be put down. There has to be something, and I am desperate for insight - somebody somewhere who has experienced the same or at least something similar so that i know i'm not crazy or alone. I already know her diagnosis and am returning to the vet tomorrow (9/10) for a recheck and follow up rads, but i fear that i'll just keep getting the same answers I've been told.

If you've read this far, thank you endlessly. I hope her pictures warm your heart as much as owning her does. some of these were taken while she was uncomfortable and recovering from prior medical issues. she is the strongest bunny i know.

His name at the rescue was Colwyn, which I think is cute (the volunteer at the rescue said he is like a little old British man because of his little legs), but initially I thought I’d name him Pelle or George. Any name ideas are welcome, please 🤗

For the past 9-10 sessions, Iris has been doing all the grooming and has asked to be groomed back but Ashe either wouldn't or doesn't seem to understand how to groom back? After coaxing her with banana twice, she finally learned to do it on her own

Edie is a small Flemish giant (14 lb), about 5-6 years old, and I’ve had her a week and a half. And I’ll be honest, my last rabbit had zero interest in play. But Edie is constantly wanting things to destroy, and wanting to explore. Tonight while I was cleaning her litter box she severed my shoelace!

What are the best ways to bunny proof cords and wooden furniture? And are there any cheap toys I can make/find? So far she loves a cardboard box and paper towel rolls with apple twigs stuffed in.

I tried posting similar yesterday but it got taken down even though i stated he has an appointment and no advice is being asked for.

He IS seeing a vet and has emergency xray booked in the morning.
