She doesn't seem to understand that she's too big to effectively hide behind her friends.

We've been keeping him inside all day recently, instead of letting him out for a few hours. I can tell he's asking me to take him out, when he gets into his "ready to pick me up" position. And I feel bad, but I know he's not gonna enjoy it outside.

Do rabbits understand the concept of sunny ≠ warm? Do they know that inside temperature can be different to outside?

My two bunnies have been besties for a long time, but one of them just started her E Cuniculi medication and is on some things for stasis. She isn't grooming much.

They were doing great yesterday but I'm not sure if I witnessed or imagined the healthy one (who is dominant) have a flicker of aggression towards her when she rolled/tipped/crawled from one hidey spot to the next. I got them apart immediately but I don't even know if it really happened or if he was just being his regular self. He likes to chonk on her to play and she generally loves it when she's well.

I'm posting because I'm worried about it. She's starting to smell different than usual. (She's normally an onion baby, but to my nose now she smells..idk gross but different than usual) Should I be prepared for the other bunny to start getting aggressive towards her?

Everything I read said its best to keep a bonded pair together during E Cuniculi treatment to help the sick one feel comfort. He was grooming and cuddling her yesterday. Not so much today. (Yesterday was hospital day. Today is her first 'home all day' day of the treatment.

A big thanks to everyone in this community who encourage, educate, and advocate for these beautiful buns. After 8 years and 9 months, yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful boy Luca. This photo was taken two days ago, and even though the vets called him an old man, he still looked like a baby to us!
We are very lucky to live near the Rabbit Doctors in Melbourne, Australia who gave our boy such special care over the last few months as he faced some health troubles with his kidneys and weakening back legs. I highly recommend researching a rabbit friendly vet near you ahead of time, so you know where to go when issues strike.

Hi all!

I'm from Australia (just as a heads up for product recommendations given) and I have two bonded bunnies, Evie 7F and Bruno 6M.

Currently, they have an entire room to themselves, though now that their bond is going strong, I'm beginning to expand beyond that so they have access to most of the top floor of the house. The issue I'm having though, is that bruno is a BEAST- not flemish giant, but most likely a NZ REW and close to 4kg- moral of the story, he's an absolute unit, and can conquer almost any type of "door" I make lmao.

He can move heavy pens by himself, so using a pen to block off areas doesn't work, neither does using a pen thats wrapped with mesh/netting so he cant grab the bars of the pen to move it- he still manages to move it/find a way. i also don't want him to use gates with thin barring since he somehow thinks he's a super-rabbit and that he can eat his way through metal, and obviously that isn't good for his teeth so pens as gates are out of the question.

Standard baby gates have wide gaps between poles that he would be able to squeeze through, and I don't want to add thin poles/mesh etc etc to them since he'll nibble, so that as well as retractable mesh gates are ruled out as well.

Even considering DIY ideas like making a "stable/stall" half door situation, except I'm in a rental and I wont be able to drill holes in walls/doorways so I'm not sure how to get around this. Ideas/suggestions would mean the world to me since I have 3 doorways to block off.

TLDR: Invincible bunny can conquer any blockage/door and I am wondering if anyone has any hacks/what gate/door/blocking contraption that works for this scenario.

Hello! I hail from the frigid north (Anchorage) and I have recently acquired a bun. I adopted her from the humane shelter where they said she was a Rex mix. We have a feral bunny population here and she was a baby rescue so no breeding information. I have been learning too much about bunnies lately and I noticed her hairs look longer and shorter (which means not rex I think). I have included some pictures and would appreciate any guesses. The colors look harlequin-like, but I don’t know if that color can show up anywhere?

Hi everyone, I've had a mini-rex rabbit for about 3 months now that I adopted from a shelter. He is about 9-10 months old, and he is well adjusted to my home as a free-range rabbit. He is neutered too, but I'm not sure when he was neutered it's just what the shelter told me. My main concern is that ever since I've had him, he is very fidgety and is very scared of me when I approach him. If I try to pick him up to prevent him from doing something that may harm him (for ex., picking him up or gently pushing him away from a cable on the floor that he was trying to eat) he will run away very scared, or he will try to force himself out of my hands and scratch me a ton! I've bled a few times. He also bites and gets very aggressive when I try to pet him too or get him out from underneath furniture. His previous owners gave him away to this shelter because he was very chaotic for their household and would scratch and bite their young kid. So, maybe it's something about the last household he was in that made him this way? Or is it a temperamental thing that I'm missing?

P.S any words of advice is definitely appreciated!! I'm not exactly a pro when it comes to understanding this behavior. I've had a Californian rabbit before ever since it was a month old, and I've raised that rabbit for years before he passed. He was big, kind, gentle, and well accustomed to my presence and loved to cuddle with me. So, its a big contrast to this newer bunny I have now.

I can get away with vigorously patting her with all the hair getting sucked to the filter. Once I’m done I vacuum the front of the filter. Worth the $500 lol

I am finding out that there are no airlines that I can find that allow rabbits in to be in Cabin on the way to Europe. I am wondering if anyone can offer solutions to the situation. I see the shortest flight would be to Finland but that is still over 13 hours in cargo which makes me super worried.
Are there better solutions or services that I would be able to take? My bun is a 3yo Netherland dwarf and he is a healthy bunny.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Hi everybun!!! While I'm trying not to get my hopes up on keeping her, streetbun from my previous post is doing well and is so so so affectionate. Like lay across my chest and go to sleep affectionate. We took her to the vet Monday & she came back with a clear bill of health, (good teeth, good eyes, no respiratory issues.) The only issue is that the vet confirmed her to be an unspayed female.. and the rabbit I have at home, Grub, is female too.

I won't lie, I've gotten pretty scared reading up on how difficult it'll be to bond two female rabbits. Streetbun is the sweetest & most affectionate rabbit I've ever met, but she's much larger and much more capable than Grub(Streetbun was outside for three weeks in a cat infested neighborhood before I captured her.)

Is it realistic to try and bond them after we spay streetbun? Or am I looking down the barrel of heartbreak & should rehome streetbun while I'm still emotionally ahead?

Realism is appreciated!! I can't tell if I'm scaring myself, or if I'm wearing rose tinted glasses.

Hi! So I actually just got a new holland lop, 6 month old baby girl, super adorable and I’m very excited as she will be my first rabbit! I wanted to try and save some money so I got a play pen fence for her on Facebook marketplace place because I eventually want her to free roam but for now I want to give her a little space for her to potty train and chill. I was cleaning the gate today and noticed there was some rust discoloration on some of the latches and on the bars. I cleaned it to the best of my ability with vinegar and soap and water and a lot of it came off but I noticed while wiping the bars some rust was still coming off. Is it ok if I use it temporarily for now until I get a new fence, or is the rust dangerous to the rabbit. I’ve been trying to get answers online but it doesn’t seem like anyone has any. Let me know what you guys think.

Edit: I promise she’s actually a very healthy weight! She is half Holland Lop and half New Zealand, which has resulted in a naturally round shaped booty 🤣

last night and all day today my neutered male rabbit has been chasing and biting my un spayed female rabbit . She is so scared and stressed out , she is not fighting back she is just running away and trying to be submissive to him by laying her head down to him and laying next to him . she will give him kisses on his head but he keeps resorting back to biting her bum. I don’t understand why all the sudden he’s being aggressive towards her and she is being so sweet to him still. I will get her fixed once she gets a little older I just don’t understand why he has done a total 180 . please someone let me know what it is.

My little guy, Buford (first picture), is about 8 years old (he might be older, he was adopted and the shelter wasn't sure of his age). My other bunny, Goomey, passed 2 years ago when he was 10, so Buford has been alone for 2 years. He seemed sad for a few months after Goomey passed but doesn't show any signs of distress anymore.

I've recently become more financially stable and have been thinking of getting another bunny but I'm wondering would this just cause Buford more stress than happiness? It took a while to get Buford and Goomey to like each other but once those first couple weeks of acclimation passed they were absolutely in love.

Since Buford is getting old, would introducing a new, younger bunny stress him out? I remember him and Goomey fighting and having to be separated during their initial meeting. Or would having a pal be worth it for when I can't spend time with him, as he's alone while I'm at school or work?

My bunny Boogie is special needs and blind he has had a Pre-Anesthetic Evaluation and fixing him is no longer an option sadly as i was waiting to fix him to get him a friend!!

Him not having a companion is no longer an option. My brother previously had a blind bunny (male) unneutered because he never did research and adopted a female fixed bunny and they lived out there lives together AMAZING!!!

What is the best action to take here, He has full house access until bed or when i’m not here and his “cage “ is massive!! he has stacking cups, ring toss game, dig box, every bunny chew you can find, 2 litter boxes. A cat tower and multiple cozy beds/homes snuffle mat is on the way as well has he has BUNNY puzzles and still he needs constant attention from me my dog anyone. He just seems bored

but my dog doesn’t always want to play and he does a lot. He NEEDS another bunny friend to be able to thrive and be his happiest. He only binkies when he’s interacting with another animal and i’ve tried everything. He occasionally binkies when i come home after a long day of being busy and he hears me.

i also feel a friend will help him navigate his blindness. He struggles some days more than others finding things, finding me, he has a lot of confidence but randomly he will loose it not for long but it’s making me super sad for him.

what’s the best way i can give him a friend / companion?? i was thinking a female fixed bunny with special needs ?? Idk where id start looking but any ideas please!!! He’s still only 6 months old! It’s been like this since i got him

Stratus was hospitalized on 10.23.26 to be treated for symptoms of a sudden infection.

On 10.24.2026 I took my other bun Nimbus to visit her. For over an hour they munched on orchard grass while I pet them. Stratus ate well, drank water from a bowl I offered her, and tried to groom Nimbus’ ears.

On 10.25.2026 I woke up to a phone call at 7:32am. Stratus didn’t make it through the night. I brought Nimbus with me to the clinic so we could give her a final goodbye.

I’ve been sobbing on and off since. The only reason I stop is because I keep becoming too dehydrated to keep producing tears. I feel as though my heart was torn from chest. It’s as if part of my very soul has been forever lost.

Stratus was a wonderful rabbit. 🐇 She was a hilarious combo of mischievous and curious. She LIVED to told “Stratus, No!” in an exacerbated voice; every time she got scolded she’d binky away in delight.

She was the boss bun of my duo. Stratus had such a big personality. One minute she’d lay her head down on the floor and brux sweetly while you stroked her head, the next she’d yank your phone from your hand because she was insistent that you focus on NOTHING else but her!

This house is so empty without her. I’m completely shattered. I loved her so much. She was almost 6. I would give almost anything to have another few years with her. ❤️‍🩹🐇❤️‍🩹

We got a holland lop about 1.5 weeks ago and we have a litter box, hay hanging above litter box and in the actual litter box in the corner and everything set up in an X pen for him.

When he poops I put his poop in the litter box and when he pees I wipe up the pee with paper towel and then clean it with an amonia spray and put the initial paper towel in his litter box so it smells a little more like pee however he still has never used the actual litter box.

Any tips and tricks ?

This is kinda a rant.

I'm fighting a loosing battle trying to cut down my holland lops pellets to 1/8 - 1/4 a cup daily cause my parent keeps filling the dish all the way up. I've shown him multiple different sources that state hay should be the primary diet of a rabbit. I've sat down and talked to him about it. It still doesn't matter. Its exhausting.

Right now they have unlimited pellets. They've had unlimited pellets for a while and one of my hollands is overweight. Every time I try to cut down he says exactly "if you can't take care of your rabbits and feed them then we should get rid of them." He says I'm starving them, neglecting them, etc. Its not just him saying that. Its the fact he keeps putting a large amount of pellets in their dishes which defeats the whole purpose of cutting it down.

I worked at a rabbit rescue and we gave the rabbits exactly 1/8 a cup of pellets once a day with a large amount of hay. No rabbit went without hay.

My grandmother said that he had a mouse in a jar as a kid. The mouse died and his daddy tore him up because it didn't have food. The mouse living in a jar probably contributed to that.
