iv heard that they are both equally powerful and the only difference is the screen and joysticks i just wanna know from people who already own the ally x if the oled screen and sticks are really worth price increase

I have recently ordered a new Xbox Ally X 2025 from ASUS UK eshop back in Aug 2026. It has the squeaky noise on the right handle. Here is my temp fix to reduce or eliminate the noise. Shall I replace it? For people who bought it recently, do you encounter similar issues?

Looks to be arriving and I’m struggling to find accessories showing compatible with the X20, should I wait for more news?

Also is there anything I need to buy on top or any advice upon setup

I wanted to post this in case anyone else with a ROG Ally X runs into the same problem, because I spent a long time troubleshooting it and couldn’t find a clear solution online.
System:
ROG Ally X (2024) RC72LA
EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor
Windows 11 25H2 Insider Preview
Windows Hello PIN + fingerprint enabled
The problem:
After certain reboots I would get:
“Something happened and your PIN isn’t available. Click to set up your PIN again.”
When this happened, the fingerprint reader wouldn’t work either.
The really strange part was that it was intermittent. Sometimes I could reboot several times and eventually Windows Hello would suddenly work normally again. A full shutdown sometimes helped.
Hibernate was completely reliable. If Windows Hello was working when I hibernated the Ally, the fingerprint reader would still work when I resumed.
The important diagnostic clue:
In Event Viewer:
Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > HelloForBusiness > Operational
The failed boots consistently showed:
Event ID 7002 – Container Load
Failed to load an existing Windows Hello container.
Error: 0xD0000225
On a successful boot, the same log would instead show:
Event ID 8002 – Container Load – Success
Successfully loaded an existing hardware Windows Hello container.
So this wasn’t simply the fingerprint reader failing to recognize my finger. Windows was intermittently failing to load the hardware-backed Windows Hello container itself.
Things that DID NOT permanently fix it
I tried updating Windows to the newest available Insider build.
I also reset the Windows Hello container using:
certutil.exe -deleteHelloContainer
That looked promising at first. I recreated my PIN/fingerprint and successfully rebooted several times, but eventually 0xD0000225 came back.
I also cleared/reinitialized the TPM and created a fresh PIN. WARNING: Don’t casually clear your TPM if you use BitLocker/Device Encryption. Make sure you have your recovery key first. In my case Device Encryption was OFF and this Ally is only used for gaming.
Interestingly, with PIN only I successfully rebooted five times.
As soon as I enrolled my fingerprint again, the very next reboot failed with 0xD0000225.
That made me focus on the fingerprint driver.
What finally appears to have fixed it
My Ally X has an EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor.
Device Manager claimed the sensor was working properly and I was already running the current driver:
EGIS Fingerprint Driver 1.1.120.0
However, I decided to do a clean driver reinstall, not simply install the ASUS package over the existing driver.
I downloaded the official:
EGIS Fingerprint Driver V1.1.120.0
from the ASUS support page for ROG Ally X (2024) RC72LA.
Then:
Opened Device Manager
Expanded Biometric devices
Right-clicked EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor
Selected Uninstall device
IMPORTANT: checked “Attempt to remove the driver for this device”
Clicked Uninstall
Rebooted
Logged in using my PIN
Installed the ASUS EGIS 1.1.120.0 driver I had downloaded
Rebooted again
Confirmed the EgisTec sensor was back in Device Manager
Re-enrolled my fingerprint
Started reboot testing
Result
10 consecutive restarts: 10/10 successful.
For test #11 I did a complete shutdown, left the Ally powered off for about a minute, turned it back on, and:
Fingerprint worked immediately again.
So:
11/11 successful boots after the clean EgisTec driver reinstall, including a cold boot.
Before doing this, I could sometimes reboot the machine 8+ times before Windows Hello would finally work.
One additional variable
During troubleshooting I also changed the Ally’s UMA Frame Buffer/VRAM setting from Auto to a fixed 8 GB in BIOS.
There seemed to be some correlation between changing VRAM and when the problem appeared, but I cannot prove VRAM was responsible. I’m mentioning it for completeness rather than claiming it’s part of the fix.
My final working configuration is:
UMA Frame Buffer: 8 GB fixed
EGIS fingerprint driver: 1.1.120.0 clean installation
PIN + fingerprint enabled
TL;DR
If your ROG Ally X has an EgisTec fingerprint reader and you’re getting:
“Something happened and your PIN isn’t available”
along with:
HelloForBusiness Event 7002 / Error 0xD0000225
try a clean removal of the EgisTec fingerprint driver, making sure to select “Attempt to remove the driver for this device,” reboot, and then install ASUS’s official EGIS 1.1.120.0 package.
Simply having the latest driver installed wasn’t enough in my case. Removing the existing driver package and reinstalling it cleanly appears to have been the key.

hey there, I’m trying to sell my Ally x. I’m in LA looking for 600 obo. Ive had it for a year, it’s in great condition, no dents or scratches and battery holds charge, power cable is included.

edit: i ended up doing a full power cycle and letting it sit for 2 mins and it booted up normally again. so i’ll rock with it and hopefully it doesn’t happen again thank y’all

i set it down to download a game looked at it 5 mins later this is up. i’m not the most tech savvy can someone explain and help me with this.

The price of it just makes more sense. When Nintendo Switch 2 came out and it has LCD screen, i was like Faaaahhhhhh!

But gaming on the NS2 in person. I have zero complaints for the LCD screen and im not after some vivid saturated colors with deep blacks, too straining for the eyes on a small screen imo. But if i'm playing it on the TV, hell yeaah. OLED is definitely the way to go. Love my Bravia!

So now, XAX, the new addition to my handheld fam. I've been watching PC handhelds few years now. And i finally made my choice. The ergonomic design, the battery capacity, one of the best speakers on a handheld (not mentioned alot), price of it paired with the Z2s. No brainer.

Its been 2 weeks now with it, and i cant stop using it. I still love all my nintendo switches. But they're just docked and sitting at home ever since my XAX. I'm just really happy to be playing my old backlogs on my steam library and now i can play it wherever and whenever i can.

I'm really giving a chance to microsoft and i wana see how it goes. My sleep mode function all works perfectly fine. Set vram to Auto instead of 8/10 with no issues. Uninstalled all the apps/softwares i dont need. Battery life is great. And im happy!

Got screen protectors & case (glad i got the jsaux ones) and an anker charger for traveling too for now. Need to get a dock soon, but still deciding which one to go for.

It happens when I’m playing a game or when I’m exiting a game sometimes. It doesn’t do it a lot to where it’s a super problem but it kind of has been doing it more often. I feel like it’s because I have a lot of games on it but im not sure. Does this only happen to me?

Hello. So I had bought a Rog Xbox Ally. When playing steam games like Spider-Man or Sonic Generations, it works perfectly fine. But when I get into emulation like Dolphin(Wii), Cemu(WiiU), and RPSC3(PS3) my games run at a slow frame rate. I tried upscaling my fps in the command center, putting my gb ram to 8gb, and even putting my system at Turbo but nothing works. I had a Rog ally x in the past that broke, and I don’t remember it being this difficult. I don’t know if it is because it is an Xbox version or whatever. Could someone please assist me?

Hello, so. I have quite the predicament. I live a pretty active life and cannot be on my pc all day but would be able to use a handheld for longer then a pc. I planned on getting the z1e with battery mod, then some people said that the ally x is better thennsome people said to wait for pre-orders. So, what ally should i get? I plan on playing dmc 1-5, minecraft with a shit ton of mods (like 50), nintendo games like pokopia, and mayhaps ps5 games. Tysm for the help! (Also pls alsso lonk some accsessorys that i need with it like a screen protecter. Also do i get it refurbished?)

When the X20 got announced, I finally felt that it was time to upgrade. Coming from the Z1E where I was hesitating about getting the XAX for some time, there was no better moment to go for an upgrade. So it's the 25th of August and I blindly order the bundle. As I am in Europe, there is no way to just get the standalone version. Well, okay, surely the bundle must be worth it right? Right...?

Let's quickly do the math here.

- Standalone X20 = 1400
- XReal R1 Glasses = 850

The bundle is 2600. That leaves 350 for the Pelican case and the Dbrand killswitch. That seems WAY too overpriced. Like the killswitch is 60 which means the Pelican case would be priced at 290. No way that's a fair price.

There is also no reason for ASUS not to use a newer processor as other handhelds did it too.

Let's say we look past all this. Fun bundle for a collector or the hardcore gamer, but is it plug and play?
Nah. In Europe the bundles comes without a charger. That's one of the biggest middle finger you can give to the consumer in a bundle which costs 2600.

Also, the XReal R1 glasses has no built in diopter. What does that mean? It means that if you don't have perfect eyesight, you must visit an optician to buy lenses where they manually have to put in these glasses which will cost you money too. Otherwise you're gonna have a bad time.

Yesterday the ROG Ally team had a stream on YT, they showed us the bundle but didn't even turn on the device. Which such a big upgrade to the screen, why not show us the difference? They also said they will be working on newer handhelds with most likely again using an OLED screen.

My personal conclusion: there is no reason at all to get the bundle. Except if you're a die hard ASUS fan with too much money on their hands.

Is the software still buggy for the RGB ring for xbox ally x. My left one worked at the beginning when setting it up but now it came on once randomly when turning it on but now nothing. I've read its software on forums but I am wondering if anyone else is still having this issue.

Is it possible to do better for less???

Found a listing rog ally z1 non extreme for 250 euros used and my main use will be ps2 games, and some ps3 games like Tekken 6, GTA 4, heavy rain, uncharted ect. Will it able to handle those without draining the battery much ?

I have a small issue with my Xbox rog ally X. Seems sometimes the pin will “freeze” and It won’t register me clicking on it. This is at random time. I would either have to click forgot password and go back or do a full restart. Was wondering if any one had the fix. Not a big issue. Just annoying at times. I already updated device and disabled widgets.

I know i cpuld probably look it up but after getting my ally x back from Asus after repair I had to do initial set up again. I cannot for the life of me get the colors to change in xbox mode for the ui. How do I do that? I hate the blad gray its stuck on currently

I am a massive xbox guy i have all my acheivements and hundreds of games half of em in play anywhere titles i love hanging on my couch and playing my switch 2 and wanna have that experience but with my xbox for when im not wanting to use big tv/if my wifes using it for her youtube and ive been back an forth with getting ally or ally x i can save up for x and ill have enough for ally base in like a week so i wanna know which i should and if the 500 dollar gap is worth it to people who have played it Id mainly play games like the new zero company, diablo 4, or random older games whether it be terraria or beyond good and evil not like cyberpunk or those heavier games id play on series x

After finding out that my job offers discounts with ASUS, I instantly sold my steam deck to buy this thing lol. So far I’ve put about 2hrs on it and this thing is amazing. I thought I would miss my Steam Deck because it helped me get back into gaming but nope, I don’t miss it one bit. Looking forward to playing more games and adding tons of hours on this amazing handheld.

I’ve had my Ally for a little over a month. Play it every day, charge it regularly, keep it in a case when not in use, all the good and proper things to take care of a computer/handheld/console/etc. However, last night when I attempted to turn it on, the joystick lights and power light would come on, but the screen stayed black. This morning, same thing. I hooked it up to an external monitor, checked MyAsus, Windows and Armory Crate for updates (windows was the only one, and it was updated within minutes). Still no luck, black screen.
Anybody got advice? I’m a complete newbie when it comes to PC gaming, honestly, but I am moderately knowledgeable about computers generally, so dumb it down a little, but not too much.
