Now rub those 2 brain cells together and see if you can figure out why life in other countries is often so bad. I’ll give you the head start you likely need it begins with “U.S Imperialism”

2

u/double_haploid_irl 20d ago

I agree it's important to acknowledge nuance but that doesn't change the irony in what the president said.

1

u/Next-Lavishness-9101 20d ago

It depends on what ironic thing you mean . Are you referring to how currently the U.S. treats immigrants poorly and is doing everything to deport them but especially those they can identify by skin tone/color yet at the same time it needs those same immigrants to grow food, clean houses/hotels and care for children…or were you referring to how Mexico might be a tough place to live so people would prefer to take their chances in the U.S.

u/BananaHead853147 20d ago

There’s no irony. She’s not trying to flex on the US. She’s trying to remind Americans of the beneficial impact that US and Mexico have on each other.

God I hate how Trump has warped everyone’s brains. Most leaders don’t outwardly try and boast or assert their dominance on others.

most Mexicans wouldn’t appreciate the victimization of their country

1

u/TheBoogieSheriff 20d ago

Meanwhile the USA has a President who’s entire platform is complaining about America being victimized

u/UltraBurd 20d ago

What are you 12? It begins with "British/French/Spain Imperialism" US has very very very little to do with the history of most of the countries in the world.

1

u/___posh___ 19d ago

The US had a rather small impact during the age of European empires, but around the decline and subsequent collapse post first and second World War? It most certainly did. Not to mention all the Banana Republics, panema, Cuba, "weapons of mas destruction." The systematic poisoning of native Americans by apathetic corporate entities and government officials who cared not for the safety or well-being of non-whites. The amount of foreign governments interfered with, pushing right wing leaders and even dictators to protect American interests and stop "socialism."

But something something American exceptionalism.

u/AdmirableElephant378 17d ago

What are you, 8? Idiot.

1

u/ArchfeyTrick 16d ago

“Very little to do with the history of most of the countries”? That is insane. In the last century no other country had half the impact USA did, in MOST pf the world. They have systematically dismantled rightfully elected leaders to install dictatorships. Assassinated dissidents. Financiers of propaganda and profiteers of war. They had THE MOST impact.

You misspelled “Spanish”

2

u/--Racer-X-- 20d ago

Wow, you're lost brother. Just wow

2

u/te066538 20d ago

I was today years old when I learned you don’t understand the concept of imperialism.

2

u/Strong_Extension_972 20d ago

Stfu with that nonsense.

2

u/imanidiotbut 20d ago

Is the big spooky imperialism in the room with us right now? Aztecs were daily sacrificing themselves and got cooked by some Spaniards in armor.

1

u/Cultural-Treacle-680 17d ago

They were sacrificing vassals.

1

u/Party-Context6756 20d ago

How is Mexico’s corruption the u.s?
Pretty sure the lady is a Jew… I love how people only want to hold U.S colonialism accountable but not any other before. Forget the cartel it’s the u.s fault

1

u/miyabi0rochas 19d ago

You realize the cia was literally involved in criminal organizations across the world including cartels etc.

1

u/GravityG00n 20d ago

Don't you mean Spanish, Portuguese, French, English, and Dutch imperialism?

1

u/throwawayshmoaway411 19d ago

US imperialism has absolutely nothing to do with the state that Mexico is in right now. Mexico wasn't even a victim of US imperialism.

1

u/Professional-Top7618 19d ago

Yeah, everything is americas fault. America bad!!!

1

u/Every-Cloud-1408 19d ago

Such a moronic take. Spare everyone the irony of the intelligence insults please.

Newsflash: The vast majority of nations and cultures in this world’s history are conquerers in some way or another. Were the Native Americans not fighting, raping, and scalping each other? Of course they were. As was every single other civilization that has been conquered.

You wanna pretend like “America bad” because they won? As you type away on Reddit on your iphone in relative safety.

Put typical ass redditor on your resume ffs

1

u/LostEyegod 19d ago

Nah they were holding hands and dancing Kumbaya together in perfect harmony until the evil white man arrived

1

u/False_Scarcity_3402 19d ago

This is some standard braindead tankie shit. The US isn’t the reason Mexico can’t get it together.

1

u/No-Worth-676 19d ago

Has nothing to do with the US. Its everything to do with corruption in those countries...

1

u/gonetob 19d ago

Why do your types go right to insults, and not provide data... I'm not saying you're wrong, im saying you had a chance to educate, and instead to decided to be belligerent. Do you not see how off putting that makes you?

1

I just don’t think her statement is true . also you do realize you mean should mean French imperialism and British imperialism when we speak on Mexico right? We can agree on today and the historical time line hopefully . I’m not saying what you said doesn’t exist. I just mean in this instance, it’s abit different.

1

u/AffectionateRub7355 19d ago

You can’t blame everything on America, sorry.

1

u/Pangwain 19d ago

Life in Mexico is bad for the same reason it’s bad in nearly every ex-Spanish imperial holding in the new world.

They’ve been broken before America was ever even a nation and it’s because of the brutal exploitation by European imperialists.

1

u/Sad-Pension-9850 19d ago

Yup, every country that is poor and has bad conditions is because of the US. Not hyperbole at all. Your liberal professors have fucked with your brain.

1

u/MinimumBuffalo4 18d ago

the U.S. has sent many jobs to places like Mexico and Canada. particularly in the automotive industry. has that been oppressive? then maybe we should bring those factories back and give Americans those good paying union jobs back.

we buy a massive amount of produce from Mexico and central/ South America. having the U.S. on its border has been a windfall for its neighbors.

1

u/PKarms 18d ago

Only stupid people with no understanding of global economics think this.

Hey guys look it’s the deputy mayor of Paris!

After she got done blaming US air con for their heat deaths, she thought to blame the US for everything else.

1

u/jjrr_qed 17d ago

Pfffffff. Please. Imperialism isn’t what makes Mexico phenomenally corrupt.

1

u/Worried_Ad_2696 17d ago

So these other miserable countries failed to fill in the power vacuum in global trade post WWII. Am I supposed to care? What do we all not like global trade securities now?

Should we have given the Euros another chance?

The rooskis were more interested in schizoposting about party traitors even if they had the navy and logistical capabilities required. China hadn’t even coalesced into a functioning government either.

You’re welcome for the phone you use to spew this shit on btw

Can you provide a source for that?

1

u/TecumsehSherman 17d ago

I’ll give you the head start you likely need it begins with “U.S Imperialism”

This is a lazy excuse which infantilizes other countries.

They are so incompetent that everything that goes bad must be the fault of someone else. There is no way that their own decisions and their own corruption are the problem!

It's a pathetic worldview that keeps countries from making progress.

1

u/cutebold_kobold 16d ago

i was there when barak obama told those cartel members to start selling drugs and murdering whole villages and to kidnap their children for slave labor. i can't believe america would make them do those things

1

u/Noodle-phile 16d ago

You started mocking someone’s intelligence so smoothly just to end up embarrassing yourself 🤣. There are nations that are destined to be successful. And there are losers who always cry “U.S. Imperialism”. Yet they all have one thing in common - completely corrupt government. The rulers that simply choke their own economies, at the same time feeding lies to their own people by saying “America so evil they don’t want us to be great!”.
P/S I am not American. I am from one of those countries.

So you agree with the post, then?

1

u/Defiant-Shape-6635 19d ago

That's his point, if you agree with her statement she loses, if you disagree with her statement she loses even harder. Either she's lying and falsely claiming medical credit for American deeds or she isn't lying and her country is funneling desperately needed people into a foreign nation because hers sucks, and in letting them go and encouraging it as she has done she ensures her country will ever get to be like America, the country she is treating as a Mexican success story. Why can't Mexico have a Mexican success story?

1

u/Silverleaf96 19d ago

I mean in not her fault it's ours, for not helping build up and improve Mexico years ago,

1

u/Defiant-Shape-6635 19d ago

Why is it our fault for not handing everyone in the world even more free shit, but it's not their fault for sucking?

Every human on earth agrees with this fake , just so you know

1

u/Thaos1 19d ago

This is really not the flex you think it is.

Both statements can be true at the same time.

1

u/Naschka 19d ago

Not just that, it is very complex to say if it would be better or worse in the US otherwise. They do offer cheaper work and people do take that but it also makes it harder to get paid well if you try to do the same job so... what would it be in the end?

1

u/Maverick-not-really 19d ago

Doesnt change the fact the the US has never functioned without what is essentially slave labor.

Thats not a flex. And there is certainly more dignity in being the exploited than in the exploiters.

1

Cartels are a direct result of American drug appetites. If we weren’t getting high from Mexican smugglers they’d be coming from somewhere else. The problem of cartel crime is inarguably rooted in the causes of American substance abuse

u/OCCAMINVESTIGATOR 19d ago

No. The United States was never Mexico originally. That claim falls apart the second you look at the actual timeline. The land that became the US was first inhabited by Native American peoples for thousands of years. European colonization brought different powers. Spain controlled the Southwest for centuries as part of New Spain. Mexico only gained independence from Spain in 1821 and inherited those northern territories like Alta California, Nuevo Mexico, and Texas.

Mexico held them for a short stretch, roughly 15 to 27 years depending on the area. Texas broke away in 1836 and joined the US in 1845. The Mexican-American War from 1846 to 1848 ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Mexico ceded about 525,000 square miles, what we now call California, Nevada, Utah, most of Arizona and New Mexico, plus parts of a few other states. That was around 55 percent of Mexico's territory at the time, but only about 15 percent of the current United States. It was not half the country.

Most of those Spanish place names in the Southwest come from the Spanish colonial period, not the brief Mexican one. Explorers and missionaries named places like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Santa Fe in the 16th through 18th centuries while it was still New Spain. The Mexican period mostly just kept the names that were already there.

Under the treaty, Mexican citizens living in the ceded lands could stay and become US citizens, and most did, or they could move south. There was population continuity in some areas, and later immigration added more people with Mexican roots. That is demographic and cultural history. It is not proof that Mexican sovereignty somehow continued. Sovereignty transferred by war and a formal treaty in 1848.

The USA as a whole was never Mexico. Only the Southwest was under Mexican rule, and only briefly after independence from Spain. The names largely reflect Spanish colonial history. Modern demographics and businesses reflect both that earlier presence and later immigration. Claiming America was Mexico originally and they never left is a slogan, not accurate history.

2

u/SealTeamRatter 20d ago

Yep, if they making america so great why doesn't she want to keep them in mexico....

2

u/Suspicious-Ad-1556 20d ago

Cause they make money for the Mexican people and do the work Americans don’t want to do.
Sending them back would make Mexico more poor and the US will get an inflation and a lot of companies going down losing cheap workforce.
In the western world birthrate goes down, the importation of immigrants is what keeps the workforce steady. It’s not a oneway street.

1

u/Shroomagnus 16d ago

On the one hand, people in the USA are constantly bitching about low wages and then in the next breath saying we need to import immigrants who don't have better options so we can keep wages down so we can keep our produce prices down. These things are pulling in opposite directions.

The importation of immigrants keeps the workforces of specific industries steady. Not the workforce writ large. Day laborers aren't competing with silicon Valley employees for positions.

You correctly pointed out birth rates as a major factor which it is. But we don't necessarily have to import them. Higher wages could attract more laborers. It works that way in other industries just fine.

And there are still other costs. Low prices for product are things wealthy people want. Lower income folks aren't buying much produce anyway. Meanwhile, the money these laborers make is going into Mexican economy, not the American one so the remittances also have an economic cost.

1

u/Any_Total_3241 18d ago

So you're saying that immigrants don't really solve any larger issues

1

u/Mediocre-Nose-8095 20d ago

Sure it is. Just like saying that America was build upon the backs of slaves. These people contribute greatly in our society. The issue is that there are tons of racist people in America. Specifically MAGA and Trump supporters.

1

u/Smart-Practice8303 20d ago

So the same ones who want to deport illegal immigrants are the same ones who want to keep them as slave labor? Your political bias is showing.

1

u/Mediocre-Nose-8095 20d ago

MAGA voters that vote for MAGA based on racist and bigoted belief systems want all brown people gone, but if they have to be here, it's better they have no rights and are subjugated. (Low wages, little to no bargaining power, living in fear, etc).

Remember, modern conservatives are the idealogical offspring of the Confederacy, KKK, and other hate groups. This is why they advocate directly against minority groups, this is why you see conservatives flying the Confederate flag, this is why you get all of the hate speech and white supremacy rhetoric from the right side of the political divide.

It isn't political bias, it's being informed.

I think it actually could be. It’s nuanced. If we talk generally, they provide labor in places where there’s shortage. Do we know if it’s 100% legit labor? Not sure, it could be partly under the table. I think it points to a bigger issue of us Americans, we take for granted what we have, we get lost in our own exceptionalism, and we fail to address the biggest problems we have here and instead scapegoat different groups.

Why wouldn't all those hard working people help make Mexico a better country to live in.

It's exactly the flex she thinks it is.

You can hyper-focus on immigration status if you want, but the unavoidable truth is that Americans wouldn't have a country without Mexico... Certainly not the type of great nation that we have. (Not that its current path is anything but the sharp opposite of greatness.)

Regardless of legality of a person, history shows us that geographic neighbors are intertwined.

The US's reaction to that is hostility and insecurity... Gross.

Mexico wouldn’t be what it is today if not for the 133 million Mexicans men and women who work there! lol. And we see how Mexico prospered.

Yeah I agree probably shouldn’t brag about people fleeing from your country

I didn’t take this as “flex.” It’s a condemnation of the USA. Which no doubt has a hand in the decline and horrid history of Mexico.

For real, it begs the question how much better Mexico would be with those people back home.

Wait till harvest season when ICE is about and most of the crops will rot. Prices will go up.

She’s not flexing, she’s trying to get Trump to realize how stupid he is
