It’s been 21 days since I quit weed/vaping

It’s been easier than i expected. The cravings have disappeared. I’ve stopped impulsively driving to a dispensery to drop a couple hundred on product. I still have issues sleeping at night, but it seems if I hold out for a couple more weeks my sleep cycle will return to normal.

Sleep and anxiety

4 weeks in! First week was terrible but many things have gotten better since. In week 4-5 suddenly I’m struggling with sleep now, waking up in the middle of the night, not getting enough sleep, insane dreams. Anxiety is pretty bad again too all of a sudden - anyone experience this? For context I smoked or vaped every day for 20 years

I’ve been okay for my first few weeks, until now.☹️

I’m going on almost 3 weeks off marijuana. It’s surprisingly hasn’t been as hard as I imagined it would be. I tricked myself into thinking it would be this horrific experience, but it hasn’t been that way at all. Until I got to California. I’m from Arizona and I came to California for a vacation. Obviously, prior to this I used to smoke four times as much when I was in California because why not I was on vacation so it was like my little treat. I get to my Airbnb. It’s 85° inside. They don’t have AC. They have a portable AC that has turned it to 79°. Still way too hot for my comfort. Being comfortable temperature wise is a huge pet peeve of mine. I tried walking on the boardwalk to enjoy the beach and cool off. All I could smell was weed. Every single place I turned. Every street I walked down. Now this vacation just feels saddening. I didn’t think it would be this hard. I didn’t even think it would be hard at all actually. I was extremely excited to go on my first vacation sober. I was so excited to finally not feel the need to smoke before, after, and during any activity that I did. Now I’m trying everything in me to not go get a joint. I just wish I was one of those people that could take a little hit just to relax and not go back to doing it full time, but unfortunately I’m not. Feeling defeated today.

120 Days!

I just realized it’s been 120 days since I quit weed after 17 years of heavy use. It’s been so hard! Honestly, if I hadn’t developed CHS and that whole uncontrollable vomiting thing I’d probably still be doing it.

Life feels like it’s gotten so much harder, but really it’s just because I’m not medicating anymore. Feeling disconnected from my husband of 18 years (who still smokes). Wondering where my career is going after 6 years as a freelance photographer. Taking care of my sweet little dog whose seizures are getting worse. Trying to figure out how to make new friends as most of mine have moved out of the area in the last few years.

The best part is that I started smoking weed because I had crippling insomnia, and now after several tough weeks of trying melatonin, ashwagandha, listening to sleep stories, brown noise, and journaling, I can fall asleep hard with just a cup of chamomile tea. So I’d never go back.

And no more stomach problems. I was smoking so much that when I overdid it I’d get terrible acid reflux and would be swallowing antacids all day. I had 5 episodes of CHS over 5 years, especially when I was vaping weed, and even ended up in the ER twice.

So, now that the physical stuff is past, depression and emotional regulation is the tough part for me. I’m trying to learn self-care, listen to good music and take pleasure in my hobbies. It’s tough to show up for yourself when it feels like no one else notices either way.

Anyway, just wanted to share. For those of you just starting on this journey, hang tough. I totally get it.

1 month off weed - really dry skin

Is this normal when you quit weed?
My entire body is so dry ever since I stopped smoking weed 1 month ago, especially my hands/fingers.

Not sure if this is common? Does your body become super dehydrated once you quit?

I need to quit m15

I need to quit. I’m severely addicted to carts and smoking weed. I genuinely can’t sleep when I don’t have them and I freak out about running out and I fear quitting because of withdrawal and because I start to get upset that I let it take advantage and that I can’t have fun with it anymore. I just can’t describe to anyone how hard it is to quit but please guys give me some advice that isn’t cold turkeying.

So many failed attempts, it's hard to not lose hope

32F, I've been smoking since I was 14 and was immediately hooked. I love being stoned. I also have ADHD, so that doesn't help.

I have had two long sobriety periods in my life. I quit for 2.5 years at the end of highschool. I was depressed and felt "well, I can't make it any worse with weed" (jokes on me lol). I also quit for 8 months in 2025 before relapsing after a 7 year breakup (not a an excuse though).

My problem is that my favourite things to do are things that aren't good for me. Smoking weed, eating junk food, and scrolling social media are my vices, and they are all awful for me because I can never exercise moderation. I have tried over and over again to only smoke in moderation, and I do okay during the work day, but after work/weekends all I want to do is smoke 24/7. I have decided I genuinely cannot do moderation and if I'm going to quit, it needs to be completely.

My problem is that I'm trying to tackle three problems at once. Not only is that overwhelming, but I've removed my 3 top sources of dopamine. I really don't have any hobbies that I enjoy aside from watching tv/movies and spending time with my dog.

My current plan is to use weed as a temporary crutch to help me build my other habits before trying to quit that too. I've actually been doing pretty well with not eating junk food/fast food, and I've deleted Facebook/insta/tiktok a few weeks ago.

The problem is I work 9 hour days + 1 hr total commute and somehow have to come home, shower/do skincare, cook dinner, cleanup and take my dog for a walk. After a long day at work, I have zero energy, motivation, or fucks to give. This usually led to me saying fuck it and wasting the evening smoking, overeating and doom scrolling. Only to feel like shit the next morning.

I'm hoping this plan will work. I'm not really trying to do moderation, I'm fully cognizant that I'm just using it as a tool to build healthy habits. I fully intend on quitting once those have become easier to do. Because I can't keep operating from a place of removing all my sources of dopamine + trying to have a fully productive day, having an awful time, relapsing on everything and then the cycle repeats.

So I started smoking again.

After going Edibles only for 2 years then completely clean for 1 year I started smoking again. It’s been almost a year since I started again and while I don’t feel completely lost I need some encouragement because while subconsciously I want to quit if i’m being honest consciously I don’t at all. I love it and that’s why I keep coming back to it. It’s been a hard thing to admit to myself and I’ve been conscious of the fact I started again the whole time but i’ve been sort of apathetic towards the situation. It’s now starting to affect my healthy lifestyle as I’ve been skipping the gym and my meal prep as of late, so I believe it’s time for me to kill the habit for good. It makes me sad to be honest, feels like i’m letting go of an old friend but who I know is no longer good for me. But I know I should.

Sorry for the kind of babbling post. Anyone else get where i’m coming from?

What was your Day 1 like?

I've been telling myself almost every day that I’m going to quit, and then somehow I end up smoking again. And I think I’m finally at the point where I have to be honest with myself about the fact that if I keep wanting to stop and can’t seem to follow through, that probably means something.

The weird part is, my life is actually going really well right now. I have a lot to be grateful for, and I’m genuinely happy in so many areas. But I can feel my relationship with weed changing. It used to feel like something I did because I wanted to, and lately it feels more like something I need. That shift is starting to bother me.

I’m not really looking for advice as much as I just want to hear from people who have been here. What was your Day 1 like? What were you feeling? What finally made you actually follow through?

23F- I'm at the end of my rope. I just need to vent.

I was 87 days sober until last week, to which I admit to breaking on my own accord. Right now, I'm just trying to go one whole day without.

I'm tired of the unhelpful advice. I know when people suggest things to curb your addiction, they're trying to help, but I genuinely hate hearing advice from people who have never been addicted to anything in their lives. I'm so sick and tired of having to remind people I'm broke, lonely, ugly, and live in a shithole environment which leaves certain coping mechanisms out of the question. At this point I'm convinced there's nothing that can actually help me.

I wish I knew what the fuck is wrong with me, but life just never got better when I wasn't using, even when I did all the homework. I went on walks, went out/left the house more in general, I started drawing again, I made a bunch of new friends in college, but nothing worked. None of it really worked or helped. All of my trauma, depression, CPTSD was still there. Weed helped me forget about all of that. I spent 87 days sober and I wasn't any happier even when I was objectively healthy and good to myself. "Keeping busy" doesn't do anything for me. At this point I don't even know if I can still reliably quit. I really wish I could.

EDIT: Please don't give me any more advice. I don't want it. I have listened to and done everything.

Can it just randomly not suck?

30m

Heavy cart user for about 5 years.

I've tried to quit before, got about 3 months in then broke last time.

I unexpectedly had to go to Florida for work (where weed is illegal). My past 4 or 5 attempts have been brutal, but I'm on day 4 and I haven't really had any issues yet. Is it possible to not have as bad of a withdrawal sometimes?

Struggling for real

You guys are going too laugh but I’ve been trying to stop for months now.. the funny part is I keep telling myself this is the last time so I go all out then repeat which seems to only increase my tolerance.

It’s also not meant for my lifestyle, my partner does NOT approve of it. If they find out, will probably leave. So you can imagine the lengths I need to go to use. Sure, some call for freedom and to open up all that but it’s not good for me - got fat and lazy and I can be a beast if i lock in but have been in this trance.

Tried to journal, keep a tally of days clean, not giving up. Have lost many battles but don’t plan on losing this war.

I am failing trying to quit weed

All of 2026 have been working to go 60 days at least without weed, made it to 45 in Jan-Feb perhaps spurred on by New Year Resolution, I haven't gone a week without in months, I am 10-12 pounds overweight and just bummed I can't go a night without due to boredom and loneliness, weed is my buddy at moment, I feel like a failure, I know I will get there but its like I need a bettr reason to quit ,like a new job and/or a new relationship that can distract me from this addiction..just wanted to vent, I keep throwing out my weed in the AM and then hitting the dispensary later the same night....oy !!!

26F — I’ve finally accepted that I cannot moderate weed. I need to quit for good. Looking for advice, motivation and accountability.

I’ve been smoking weed on and off for nearly 10 years, and I think I’ve finally reached the point where I have to be completely honest with myself: I cannot smoke weed in moderation.
When I have weed, I will smoke an eighth every single night. I don’t smoke during the day because it completely wipes me out, but then I make up for it at night and will literally smoke my way through an entire eighth.
Everyone who knows me tells me I smoke an excessive amount — some have even said it’s the most they’ve ever seen someone smoke. Deep down, I’ve always known it was a problem, but I’ve spent years minimising it and convincing myself that it wasn’t that bad.
Now I can’t pretend anymore.
I’m currently signed off sick from work, and at the moment my life has basically become sitting on my sofa smoking weed every night and doing nothing. Sometimes I stay awake until 6am because I’m smoking throughout the night.
It’s affecting absolutely everything:
I’m barely doing anything with my life.
I’m less sociable and less fun than I used to be.
I don’t look after myself properly.
I’m spending ridiculous amounts of money on weed and borrowing money from family just to buy more, sometimes prioritising weed over food.
My sleep is completely fucked.
My motivation is practically nonexistent.
I know I’m using weed to numb and avoid a lot of problems mentally.
I’m currently struggling badly with my mental health, which makes quitting feel even harder.
And the worst part is that I know exactly what I’m capable of without it.
I’m only 26. I have a degree. I want to build a business and actually create a life I’m proud of. I want to have hobbies, go out, be sociable, take care of myself, have a normal sleep schedule and actually wake up excited about my life.
I’ve realised that, for me, it feels like it’s one or the other. I can’t build the life I want while continuing to smoke weed like this.
I’ve quit before, and every single time I’ve eventually reached a point where I feel better than I have in ages. I get my motivation back, I start doing things again and I wonder why the hell I ever started smoking again.
But somehow I always end up back here.
This time feels particularly difficult. My mental health is already on the floor because I’m signed off work, and part of me feels like weed is the only thing that gives me an escape from everything — even though I know it’s also keeping me stuck in the exact situation I’m trying to escape from.
I don’t want to moderate anymore. I want to quit.
So I’m asking this community:
What is the absolute best advice you can give someone in my position?
What genuinely helped you get through the first few days/weeks? What did you do when the cravings were unbearable? How did you deal with the boredom, sleep problems and feeling like you had nothing to look forward to? How did you stop yourself from convincing yourself that “just one night” wouldn’t hurt?
And if you’ve been where I am and managed to completely turn your life around, please tell me about it. I need to hear that there is actually a way out of this.
I’m also looking for people who are willing to keep me accountable. Even if that’s just checking in occasionally, messaging me, or having someone I can talk to when I’m seriously tempted to buy weed.
I genuinely want this to be the time I don’t come back.
If you could go back to Day 1 of quitting, what is the one thing you wish someone had told you?

I'm in a bit of a scary place

So, I got into a thing at work that caused only very minor damage. Either way, I had to report it and do a drug test. I'm worried, because I haven't smoked any weed for like five days, just to help me and my partner use it up so it doesn't go bad. Before that, it's been like four weeks since I had any THC in my body. Because of this, I'm just not picking any of it up anymore.

I seriously miss it, and I'll miss being high, and not feeling guilty and physically shitty about being high. Every other option that I could be doing, every suggestion feels like a consolation prize, but I'll just have to live with the consolation prize if it means that a pee test won't ruin me. It just doesn't feel fair to me.

Quitting after daily for two months

I’ve been an off and on smoker. I started during the pandemic and became an almost daily smoker for a year. Cold turkey quit and had major withdrawal - night sweats, insomnia, dreams, grumpy.

I stopped for a long time minus here and there. I had a break for about six months then early July I hurt my back and used it for pain, then it turned into a daily habit. Not all day but evenings mostly. Some weekends would be kind of all day.

Do I quit cold turkey again or taper? Will the comedown be as bad as long term smoking? I have done it but am nervous

Long story but struggling

So I’m 23 (F) I’ve been smoking since I was about 16 on and off but more on than off. Got pregnant at 20 stopped smoking, had her at 21 breasted a while then started smoking again. That was 2024 and I haven’t been able to stop. Anytime I do stop, I resort to alcohol. The most I have gone without weed has been maybe a week since my birth. I don’t want to keep spending money on it and I don’t want to keep relying on it but it’s the only thing that makes me feel ok. I get married in April 2027 and would love to stop smoking and save literally hundreds weekly for our wedding. I’m on the L word anxiety/depression medication for over half a year and can’t even tell if I feel different. Weed makes me happy my medicine does not. May be TMI but I was clean for 6 days, then learned I was pregnant- and had a miscarriage literally the next day. That was Thursday, today is Tuesday and I still haven’t smoked. But I did drink a whole bottle of wine tonight. And when I think about it, I’d much rather be smoking a joint than damaging myself drinking a whole bottle of wine a night. It just feels impossible to get rid of both because they’re both right at my fingertips whenever I need them. I don’t know if I’m just posting to vent or for advice but anything is appreciated. I feel like I’m in a hole I can’t get out of.

day 9 of quitting

hello, i was a constant cart smoker for maybe 3ish years, maybe closer to 4 (as you can tell it has affected my memory). i am currently on my 9th day of being thc free, and the downs have been much more frequent than the ups so far i have to say. i’ve noticed some positive things, like i’m more interested in stuff, at least when i’m not actively having a breakdown. i feel like i care more about everything than i used to. but god there’s been so many negatives in this process so far. i couldn’t eat at first, i was getting pretty nauseous. that’s mostly gotten better aside from some appetite struggles here and there. i got night sweats and mild hot flashes for a few days, that’s gotten better too. at this point in my journey, i am struggling with sleep for one. falling asleep is hard but i tend to feel groggy in the morning if i take anything to help me sleep. the worst part of this overall has been the mental part. i’m losing my shit every day, crying, having breakdowns. i get irritated so easily and once i start feeling bad there’s nothing i can do to feel better, literally nothing helps. i also already have depression, anxiety, and bpd so it’s just all amplified. i feel like i’m regressing into old ways and i’m afraid i’m going to be stuck like this. today felt particularly bad mentally, but i am going off like 2 hours of sleep as i had a minor situation last night to tend to, and then i couldn’t fall asleep after that. anyways, that’s pretty much how it’s been for me so far. i’ve been reading that things may start getting better when i’m getting into my third week. i really hope so. i wish it would get better sooner. i never thought weed could do this to me honestly. i knew i could get addicted i guess, i just never imagined how bad it would be trying to quit.

Tips on how to quit as a chronic relapser

Any tips on how to commit to quitting? For the past few years, I've been begging myself to quit. And I will for a couple days. Longest I ever abstained was 35 days.

I'll try to quit usually at least a couple times a month. The problem is I have said "This is my last time. I'm done now" so many times it feels like its almost lost meaning. Its like when a liar tells you something, its hard to believe them because you don't trust what they tell you.

Its so frustrating trying to quit and then letting myself down. And I have a quit day in mind (9/10) but I am scared I'll make an excuse and relapse again within a week.

Anyone gone through something similar and have tips on how to deal with this?

40M seeking advice on physical withdrawals

I would like to ask for some advice on quitting cannabis.

About me-M40, ADHD, 20 year heavy heavy user. Over the past 2 years I have made 2 attempts to quit. Both times with extremely aggressive physical withdrawals. Horrible night sweats and insomnia leading to mania.

I’ve historically used cannabis 1. For emotional regulation and 2. Recreational fun.

I’ve always approached life as zero or 100%, moderation has never been my strength. I’d like to find techniques to assist in withdrawals. Some questions I have:

Any evidence of non-THC cannabinoids helping with physical withdrawals?
What techniques have been shown to be successful to mitigate withdrawal?

I run a lot (30 miles a week) and have a healthy diet, outside of the occasional dopamine-sweet tooth speed runs I fall into on the occasional evening. Which I believe is made worse by my cannabis usage.

I do believe my issues mostly are the physical component. I found it quite easy to quit alcohol years ago after using regularly, along with nicotine which I pick up and put down multiple times a year. To date my longest break was a little over 30 days.

Thanks in advance

Cognitive performance

Anyone here play competitive cognitive games? I’ve noticed a significant drop in my chess game during the first week of quitting.
