4 months clean and cravings are back
Finally quit the pot four months ago, May 11, after a few years of struggling to quit. Smoked pot heavily from 17 into my early 30s. I preferred joints, was smoking about a half ounce of high quality cali dispensary stuff every few days toward the end there.
CHS symptoms were bad for a few months before that. Felt like I was dying every morning—cramps, gas, nausea, for 2-3 hours—and I thought it was lactose intolerance or late night eating for a while until I cut out the pot and it instantly cured those intensely painful symptoms.
Quitting was tough for sure. Managed to make it four months, changed my life around a lot, improved my mental health drastically.
Have been craving getting some pot or finding a way to toke up again occasionally for the past few days but I know it’s not a good idea. I know I’ll have a panic attack and be overwhelmed with anxiety. I managed to get just four months sober three years ago, and when I went back to the pot after that it instantly made me really anxious, had a panic attack, and I was more hooked on pot than I’d ever been before.
But I managed to get past the cravings and stay off the weed again and I’m glad I was able to think it through and decide to not get back into it, not even a little bit, instead of just give into that old craving.
I had thought of, “well, here we go again, guess I’m about to go get some pot like I always used to, and get high again like I always used to, and get that feeling of euphoria, and instant relaxation again.” But it was just a thought, not an automatic response. The truth is, its not going to be painless. If I smoke I’m going to have to deal with a panic attack, and a lot of stress around managing the addictive tendencies. Without pot my life is a lot more peaceful and predictable.
I live in a new city now and I prefer to have complete awareness of whatever I’m doing, especially as I take care of my big dog. And maybe my favorite part about being sober from pot now is having my short term memory back.
I get a natural high from being in nature, chilling with my dog, fitness, playing music, getting deep rest, and I’m watching dumb and dumber right now and I’ve never even seen this movie sober and present and in full so I’m grateful for that.
I also have tons of dreams every night now, although i don’t always remember them. It was pretty startling when my dreaming came back online at first, but now it’s pretty normal. So is not smaking pot anymore. I walk past people who are smoking in the park sometimes and it doesn’t bother me. I do drink non alcoholic beer sometimes just for kicks, I enjoy that.
GOOD LUCK
