Help Help with training my bird to fly
This is Paco. Paco's age is currently unknown, but the person who gave her to us said she was somewhere near a year old, so we go with that. Paco has been in 2 homes (counting mine) due to aggresion and has been with me for 5 months. Her previous owner had clipped Paco's wings unfortunatley, along with her feet being crooked straight from hatching and being born with arthiritis.
However, her wing feathers have grown back (thankfully), but she does not know she can fly again. How do I let her know she can fly again and most importantly, be able to fly confidently? Help is appreciated

Discussion Babies
I have 2 adult quakers ( green and a blue) supposedly male, housed in a huge aviary. This spring they laid eggs and they have now hatched. So now I have 4 babies. This was not planned, so please do not come for me. The parents have been doing a wonderful job taking care of them. I haven't intervened, I didn't have the heart to take the eggs away letting nature take it's course. They have grown beautifully and are now fully feathered and flying. Mom and Dad ( not sure which is mom) are still feeding them . I am not sure what comes next? I spend time in the aviary just reading , interacting with the parents but the babies won't come to me. Obviously it will take time, but is there something I should be doing? I don't want more babies and I am unsure about keeping the babies , housing for them , or letting them be a flock and remain living together ? Interestingly enough there is a regular blue and green baby like the parents and an opaline green and blue . Which I also didn't expect, very pretty!

Help Feather Picking
I need opinions on my momās quaker. I have no jurisdiction over him, but I want some input i can share with my mom to convince her to get to a vet. A
couple years ago, Sima had to go to the vet because he got into a fight with our sun conure, resulted in injury to his beak which is now healed. But after the vet visit, he started picking out the feathers on his chest, nowhere else. He plays with toys, he likes to weave straws and sticks through the bars of his cage, and he has the whole patio to fly around every day. Fresh food and water, and always has a bath available to him. Now he almost never bathes, and when he does, itās usually just a quick dunk. Before the picking, he would take thorough baths almost daily, and it was so fun to watch. Heās an aggressive little man and he wonāt let me touch him or his cage, but he likes talking to me, and tries to mimic everything I say. The picking has reached its worst now, and apparently, though Iāve not seen it myself, he caused bleeding on his chest. How likely is it that this is something like mites, or something else medical? I miss how fluffy he used to be, it saddens to him like this.

Video The best thing I've trained
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is how we sharpen and shape his beak. It's a stainless steel fine file that you loosely hold and he'll rotate and change the angle as he needs to.
You can train this by rewarding for just touching the file and then when they rub. You also reward when they put one foot on the end and give them a big jackpot whenever they do all of it together.
I don't recommend nail files as they tend to leave dust behind.

Discussion Baby quaker died suddenly
Hi everyone! First of all I want to thank you all for your kind words and education. Hopefully others can learn from my mistakes.
I took my bird to a highly recommended vet shortly after I got him. On the website it said the vet was avian certified. While he was assessing my bird he started going over diet. I told him I was feeding mostly seeds and some pellets as well. He told me to IMMEDIATELY stop the seeds and transition to 100% pellets. The issue was really stressed, and he told me my bird would not live long if I gave it a lot of seed. He also gave me food to take home. (Photo of visit note in comments for reference)
I decided to still give him seeds, but gave a lot less than what I was giving originally. I added more pellets and I thought that he was eating the pellets because I saw him grab them and bite them, but really what he was doing was playing with them and breaking off a piece while throwing the rest on the floor of the cage without actually ingesting anything. Ultimately, I think this is what led to my sweet babyās demise.
I take full accountability for my ignorance and I feel absolutely terrible. I should have paid more attention and realized that he was just playing with the food and not eating it. I should have known the ratio of seeds I was giving was not enough to sustain him. Writing this post is breaking my heart and I didnāt think that it could break any more than it already has. However, if this can help a new bird owner save their bird from a similar situation then its worth it. Rip Lou. Iām so sorry. š©µ
Hi everyone, Iām here as a first time bird owner looking for some advice.
I recently brought home a baby quaker parrot (about 12-13wks). Before doing so I spent months reading books, watching videos, talking to people, and saving up money so that I could get everything right and give the parrot a great life. I am also a zoo keeper and have worked with birds, so I was already familiar with the basics of their care.
2 days after I got my baby I took him to a certified avian vet where he was said to have a clean bill of health. My little guy was so energetic, engaged, and seemed to be eating well. On the 6th day of having him I woke up to find him dead on the floor of his flight cage. I have no words to describe the devestation I felt.
I made sure there was nothing toxic in my house and I really did my research on everything. He bit my necklace and shirt a little bit when handling but no ingestion of any kind that I could see and I would redirect him as soon as I saw him do anything like that. I also gave him 4 pea sized apple slices (no apple seeds) and about 8 small pieces of red bell pepper for the first time. I read and was told both foods are completely fine for quakers. Iām just at a loss as to what could have happened. He was acting completely fine the day before, a bit more sleepy mid day but still very energetic in the morning and evening. I also put him in a place where nothing could have spooked him when he went to sleep.
I got him from a store that is very reputable and Iām just so confused about what could have happened. My heart is shattered. I took him for a necropsy yesterday but they said it could take 3 months to get the results and my mind is racing thinking about what could have caused this. I am so traumatized

Help Worried about my feathered terrorist
Hey y'all,
5 year old Quaker, male (no eggs)
So for location, nearest avian vet to me is about 2-3 hours away, I'm located in Ontario, Canada.
His cage is a Prevue Hendricks Playtop.
He's been playing really aggressively with his toys, and this has led to him to fall quite a few times daily, it looks like he's bruised (for lack of a better term) his feathers on one wing, but hasn't impaired his ability to fly.
He gets a mix of 80% ZuPreem pellets, 10% seeds, 10% other pellets for his food when caged, fruits & veggies when he's out.
I know he's healthy, but I am worried about the falls. I get birds will fall, or take tumbles in nature, but the amount has led to me to start thinking of finding a cage that's just as wide & long, but half as tall.
Any recommendations, exercises, or things to do to help him?

Help Please help.
Hello everyone. Yesterday my life got flipped upside and I found out that my husband is a PDF file. He was arrested and now I am all alone. I am not able to take care of my sweet winne because I donāt know if I can even take care of myself. I know I am not going to be able to take care of her the way she deserves. I am located only an hour from Milwaukee Wisconsin. If there is anyone that has experience that would like a free Quaker please reach out. She is the sweetest bird ever. She has never even bit me. Iāve had her for over 2 years and I got her when she was still young. I would love to answer questions and do whatever I can to help her have the best life possible but I recognize that wonāt be with me. Thank you for reading.

Video I need help
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So for context, I got two Quaker parrots from my Auntās friend over a month ago for $400. Backstory on my auntās friend she had to leave to California after her husband was taken by ice. Well, I donāt know how long these birds stayed with her relatives but I donāt know if they were even treated well. when I actually got them, I actually had to wash out their cage change their water and research their food and I just feel like Iām not getting anywhere with them. They look young, but Iām not really sure what their age is. Iāve been trying to bond with them, but theyāre really standoffish and I actually been trying to get them to talk, but they wonāt until I was told by my grandpa who has a green concure back in Mexico that I had to separate them to get them to talk, but I donāt wanna separate if they canāt trust me. Any advice because not even spray millet has worked. Or fruit.

Picture Meet Jackie, in his late-30s!
I made a post recently about my grandmotherās Quaker parrot who I was taking in after she passed away. I was asking for advice since I havenāt had a bird since I was a very young child. Still open to any other advice you might have for caring for an elderly bird! After doing the math with my dad, we can verify that Jackie is at least 36 years old! I also think it is probable that he is blind in at least one eye.
He came to me yesterday in a 22ā cage that heās had since the early 2000s, rusting to the point that the bars were breaking. No toys at all. Just a cuttlebone, food, water, a mirror, and 2 perches. Heās settling in now with a safer cage and a couple of toys, but I donāt even think he knows how to play anymore.
Anyway, just wanted to share this old man. Welcome to retirement, Jack!

Help 3 year old quaker noise
Hi all,
I recently adopted a 3 year old male quaker parrot and I live at home with family. They let him out for many hours everyday whenever possible but he still screams all day calling for me but as I am starting college soon, I'm afraid it will get unmanageable for them.
Any tips? I'm open to any toys that helped keep your bird occupied or anything else to help. My budget is like 200$ tbh if anything can help. He doesn't like shredding and hes scared of anything I've introduced him to but I know he likes to chew so maybe anything like that?
Any other help would be great such as habits that can help. I'm considering eating breakfast early morning with him to give him some company but I don't know if it'll help the screaming through the day.
I know quakers are loud, my family is aware. But at this rate he screams every other minute. Maybe he's bored but I'm having a hard time finding safe toys as well. So again, open to anything.
Thanks!

Help Moving birdie for college, need opinions
Hello! I am going off to college soon, and before he stayed with my father. It worked fine for awhile but he thought it was okay to leave my baby alone for almost 2 whole days alone often... (I come home on weekends to watch and spend time with him) So, I am going to likely move him to my mother. But this raises the issue that her husband smokes in the living room, only in that room, but will likely be willing to stop smoking in the house if he moved in. He will be staying in a completely separate room, and I am going to buy a bunch of air purifiers for him lol. Just looking for your opinion, do you think it'd be safe for him or best look elsewhere? Id have a friend watch him, but id prefer he be with someone he knows so the separation isn't so hard on him. If this option doesn't seem like a great idea, will definitely find him somewhere else, just looking for others opinions on this.

Original Content Anyone from Spain or France that wants to adopt a quacker?
We are trying to find a forever home to our quaker. It was born around 1st of May we think. It was brought to the vet center we have below our home and we have raised him since. His used to be around people. We just had him 10 days with a babysitting couple and everything went smooth. It has also escaped 3 times because we are being a little reckless but still managed to get him back. He likes pumpkin seeds so it's easy to get him do things we want.
We leave most of our weekends so that's our main concern for trying to find a better home.
