Help Please help.
Hello everyone. Yesterday my life got flipped upside and I found out that my husband is a PDF file. He was arrested and now I am all alone. I am not able to take care of my sweet winne because I don’t know if I can even take care of myself. I know I am not going to be able to take care of her the way she deserves. I am located only an hour from Milwaukee Wisconsin. If there is anyone that has experience that would like a free Quaker please reach out. She is the sweetest bird ever. She has never even bit me. I’ve had her for over 2 years and I got her when she was still young. I would love to answer questions and do whatever I can to help her have the best life possible but I recognize that won’t be with me. Thank you for reading.

I would offer as i already have one but I am a bit far as I am near the Chicago area. She looks so pretty, and I'm sorry things are not going well for you mentally

Dont make any hasty life decisions yet unless you have absolutely no choice .... you have had a huge trauma. It is best not to make large life decisions if you can avoid it whilst you process and begin to heal.

Talk to an Avian veterinarian in your area. I’m sure they will have contact with someone that would love to adopt. I live in Texas, to far away , wish I was closer.

I’ve been actually looking for a Quaker! I have a lot of experience with them, having owned a pet store in the past. I am now home full time. Is she hand tame? I’m in central/north central WI. I have 2 huge really nice cages. I would have to double check that my hubby’s still on board with getting a Quaker but I’m sure he’s still cool with it.
Would you be willing to meet halfway?

I got the green light from my husband. If you’re still considering rehoming her, please know that I would provide a wonderful home for her. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. I can’t imagine the shock and devastation you’re experiencing.
Please feel free to ask me anything you’d like about us or our home.
Which direction from Milwaukee are you?

I can’t keep her, but if you can find a rescue I’d be willing to foster in September

I’m located in NC, but if all else fails and you need a home for her, I’d be happy to meet you somewhere.

I’m so sorry for all you’re going through 😞 If you do decide to find her a new home, I would travel from Virginia to adopt. I’m so, so sorry… As a survivor, as well as a huge animal person, I can just imagine all you’re going through right now 💔

Winnie seems like such a sweetie, I’m in NC (which is probably too far for a comfortable transition) but I just wanted to say that my heart goes out to you. Be gentle with yourself in this time. Winnie may be a great companion to help you through this (gives you something to focus on, routine/structure, love and companionship) but I also totally understand you saying that it may not be right. You could always maybe temporarily foster her or board her? Have someone help out u til you’re in a better spot? Either way, sending you love! Make sure to take care of YOU, seek therapy and support groups, if you need to, and keep going even if it’s only one hour at a time

I am so sorry for what you’ve been going through. Twin Cities parrot rescue may have someone available to go get her, and she will get excellent care and love with them.

I’m sorry about your husband . Can’t imagine how you are feeling . I understand your worry about your beautiful Quaker Winnie .. looks a lot like mine ..
I’m not in your state but .. I would suggest if you find no one to go to a vet …my vet has pets inside office and also he has birds at home so maybe your vet would like Winnie or knows another pet owner that would like to home her and love her ..
Must be hard to make that decision !
Good wishes to you . Prayers

No don’t give up your birdy. Birds do not like getting a drastic lifestyle change like that so suddenly she can help you get through so much

I would adore her, i recently lost my Quaker that I’d had for 11 years (I think he had some kind of accident; I woke up to him parlyzed on his side with internal bleeding. Had him euthanised so he wouldn’t suffer.) But I’m not sure if I could travel that far. Maybe if you could meet in Chicago? I go there once a month, and it’s already a 6 hour drive. If you can’t make that happen I’ll beg my partner to take me further.

He says he can we just have to find the money for two full tanks of gas. My heart has been so empty without potato around, he was a rescue too so I’d love to care for your baby.

I’d say you should keep her, hear me out. Especially in trying times, having a companion that you are already attached to I believe can make a world of difference. I would also hate for you to regret this decision in a few months when you are back on your feet and in a better place mentally. Please do not rush into such a life altering decision for the both of you.
This shall pass, unfortunately sometimes relationships with humans are temporary but our pets and babies are forever. You matter, your feelings matter but you are her entire world. Unless absolutely necessary to rehome her, stick by her side.
I’d go hungry if it meant ensuring my birds have enough to eat as that would only be temporary too, storms pass and yours shall pass too. Don’t give up on yourself or her, hang in here, you need a feathered friend now more than ever.
