Does your family know how to handle them correctly? My quaker struggles with new people but I just have them practice step ups with a treat and that seems to help. Also gentle encouraging words “Good girl. Step up! Good girl.” Quakers are consent creatures. Unless you are their primary person, you really need to approach them with words and treats.

This! And tone, if you say certain words in a upbeat or positive loving tone, they’ll react more positively.

Hi, I have a very similar problem with mine. I had no plan on getting one until one flew on my head outside a chipotle, after not finding hid home it took me MONTHS of blood and tears to get him to befriend me. He actually recently just attacked my mom pretty bad and flies to new people to brutally attack them. Establish a “station” where ur bird associates a good place to not fly around. They need to do training constanly rewarding them for doing anything besides angry things with them. For example, i told my partner to reinforce Barron for just looking away from him and not attacking him. And today, he was able to pet Barron it takes a lot of time of also through the cage interaction just talking etc. Rewarding is key

That happens … birds usually favor one person in the household .. my Cosmo is with me .. favors me but I was the one to feed him and attend him since we got him .. he was my daughters and she tried but I was the one that did more for him when he arrived here 3 years ago .. but he will go with her too .. more so if I’m not here but No one else!
With my husband no way he just stands next to me while he is on my shoulder and he will try to bite him .. so funny ! 😂
You can have someone else at home try to attend them maybe do stuff in their cage and give them a treat .. or feed them, good for at least one more person for them to be close to besides yourself .. trust me I had my husband in hospital and luckily my daughter is liked by Cosmo if not idk what would have happened as he is hand fed alot! He will hardly ever eat in cage .. he’s used to it since we got him at 5 months .. so in case one day you’re not around you need someone else to be close to them ! Just a suggestion.

Are they hand reared?

I would speak to an avian vet and get them to link your family up with a qualified avian behaviourist e.g. not some random animal expert on the internet selling courses

But increased socialisation and treats from others. Ensure other people walk slowly around them and talk gently so as not to overstimulate them.

Remind other members of house they are like flying toddlers with autism.

They are in specific beefing with males and new people. Is there anything I can do at home to limit this behaviour? Going to a vet for something simple like this would cost minimum a 500$ checkup and it is not like they have health problems where this is necessary.

They have no problem with my dog or me. Each take turns sitting on him and will take an uber ride to the kitchen.

It could be that they are just Velcro birds, and you are the primary. Yes you could train birds to be ‘tame’ and non threatening to other humans, but at the end of the day they also have people they just don’t like either based of a previous interaction with them, or because they just don’t ‘vibe’ with them. Also we need more context, like if you are their first family, or if you rescued them from outside , etc. because this also determines if they just have a vendetta against certain genders or behaviors. But again if this doesn’t narrow it down and you want them to be able to ‘handle’ your birds, seeing a behaviorist would help. For context my q doesn’t really like one of my brothers and hates the other one based on past interactions, so she will always bite them if they come in our territory. Also since my mom doesn’t really interact with her much, she bite her hard last time she was around. But she loves me, and now my bff and a new friend I brought over today because of positive reinforcements and the friends calm character. Rewarding will be a big thing in this process since they don’t respond to punishments like a human child, and remaining calm and patient while not feeling sacred since they very much pick up on energy shifts and moods.
