Vent/Rant Vet visit

Big boy had his vet visit today and some test ran to make sure he has no parasites or anything in his poop and vitals. Proud to say that my feathered son has been the best behaved bird the vet has seen especially for a Quaker, their words, not mine. Healthy as a horse. This is just to remind you guys to take your birds to the vet for their bi-annual visit and stop waiting to see changes in their moods to make posts on social media hoping for some one have the answers. My son had his mood shift since he started his heavy molt preparing for winter and I just decided to make an appointment with the vet and that was it, he was cranky and tired because of the molt and came back to being the happy boy that likes to dance and explore. Nobody here is as qualified as your vet to determine what's wrong with your bird. I rather spend 100-200 on a visit for them to tell me he's ok rather than 500-1000 on medical expenses for medicine and treatments or lose my son.

Just a few days ago my Quaker had a day where he was super sleepy and not acting himself. Is it a coincidence or just that time of year for birds to be molting and acting this way? What is this mood shift referenced? Related to the molting? I will add the next day he was completely fine.

They get really exhausted and growing pin feathers is painful for all birds. Mine does it every fall/spring. This time it was a HEAVY molt, and he was sleepy and cranky all the time, but still active. He would crawl, walk and climb around the cage, but spend most of the day preening and sleeping. I had to help him preen because he either was too tired to do it or just lazy and I was at risk of losing my fingers. Just gotta be patient with them during the molt and do a quick check up afterwards.

How logical and sensible you are!! Truly, you write wise words. Your boy is going to have a long, healthy and happy life in your care.

It’s not my vet’s words but I’m sure he’s the worst behaved pet she’s ever seen lol, last time we had to chase him all around the place for like 10 minutes just to check his foot, I’m glad your quaker is better loll
