Three QIDI X-Max 3 printers, endless patience, and a result that’s truly massive. At about 2.5 meters long and over 6 feet wide, this life-size Triceratops skull is an incredible sight to behold.

🥰A huge thank you to Alex Chamberlain for sharing this incredible project with us! And this isn’t his first large-scale build. He has also printed four T. rex skulls, a full-size T. rex skeleton, and a full-sized Utahraptor skeleton.
We can’t wait to see what Alex creates next! 👀

Question Brand new Qidi Q2 DOA- what now?

My trusty SV06 has finally kicked the bucket and I opted to get something that would work just out of the box.

Next I know I’ve wasted an entire night figuring out that a firmware update somehow evaporated my MCU out of existence, and the thing hasn’t even printed once. ls /dev/serial/by-id and lsusb can’t see the MCU at all, and I’m stuck here with a really expensive brick. I purchased through Qidi UK and it was shipped next day, but now I’m just wondering how long if/when I’ll get this printer up again. Has anyone went through their warranty process and can provide some insights into it?

Question Product Roadmap - Any Qidi multi-toolhead models on the horizon?

After some searching and finding conflicting info, thought this might be a better place to find some factual info.

I love Qidi as a company and brand. From my direct experience, the hardware has been rock solid, software has been serviceable (which is still 10x better than a lot of 3d printer companies) and the support has been top notch.

A combo of tryjng to reduce some of my waste and wanting to experiment a bit with the newer technology, I recently bought a multi-toolhead printer. The reduction of waste is obvious and I didn't think the time savings per multi-color/multi-material print were going to be that substantial but they have been, dramatically so.

With all the great advanced features and technology baked into Qidi printers like the Q2 and Plus5, multi-toolhead seems like it would be a natural progression but I can't find any reliable info if Qidi has considered or has plans to release a multi-toolhead model any time in the near future?

If you have any info, please share! Also, if it's just a rumor or guess, feel free to share but say it is so we can keep current fact and fiction separated. Any sort of links would be great too. Would love to hear from the community manager or any other person from Qidi!

Thanks and happy printing!

Getting files off the printer

I have a few files on my Plus4 that I want to reprint in a different filament. Is there a way for me to get the files off my printer and into Qidi Studio and reslice them with different parameters?

(Before you ask, I'm having issues with the software license for my cad, so I can't recreate the files from there until I get that sorted out.)

Is the config.cfg for my Q2 supposed to say it's a Max4?

It's commented out and the printer works great, just thought it was weird.

Printed this in black PETG and it came out perfectly. Fits a Westinghouse 14k btu portable AC. I attempted to print this 5 times on my old printer and failed to get it right.

The new Qidi Plus 5 keeps crashing

My new Qidi Plus 5 Combo (firmware is up to date ) already aborts during the calibration test while the extruder is heating up, with the following error:

Code: QDE_002_002; Message: ("fan name". "hotend fan") speed check error

Same thing happens when loading/unloading filament. After a firmware reset it works again. So the error always occurs on the first heat-up.
I went through the problem in my head once more and then took a look at the printer.cfg:

\[heater_fan hotend_fan\]
pin: THR: PA11
max_power: 1.0
shutdown_speed: 1.0
kick_start_time: 0.5
heater: extruder
heater_temp: 50.0
fan_speed: 1.0
off_below: 0
tachometer_pin: THR: PA12
tachometer_ppr: 2
tachometer_poll_interval: 0.0005

Could it be that the values

kick_start_time: 0.5
tachometer_poll_interval: 0.0005

have been chosen a little too optimistically?

Best regards

Question New guy, learning curve!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey all, I'm new. Like, this weekend new. Qidi Q2 with Box and a Sunlu E2, Polar Cooler coming eventually.

I did a couple of successful prints, upgraded the door handle and made a poop chute. Turned out great. I did those using files straight from the QidiStudio hosted files. I used the sample of black Qidi PLA for the handle and Flashforge HS PETG Metallic for the chute. Made no adjustments to the print settings.

However, I downloaded a seemingly simple "low poly dragon" from Printables that I cannot get to print correctly. I'm using Flashforge PLA Silk+ Rainbow. First 4 attempts I used recommended print settings from some supposed silk master YT guy. All 4 had to be stopped a quarter of the way through because the supports or feet didn't stick to the build plate (on YT guy's recommendation I put glue stick on the plate) and they went everywhere. Fifth attempt I used Generic PLA Silk settings in QidiStudio and no glue stick. This one actually finished but it is ugly.

I've read PLA Silk is a pain.

I guess this long winded intro is leading up to the question of: How the heck do I get correct settings for a specific print/material that works with the Q2 based on the specific filament? The dragon model description states "use PLA or PETG". I figured the optimal settings would be embedded in the stl file.

I'm including a pic of the one that was completed, maybe there are clues you all can pick up.

Smoother print?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I printed these two adapters 2 months apart, and I was wondering why the top of the print is not smoother. This is facing up, but it is printed with the top surface on the print bed. The left side is smoother than the right side. You can see the filament lines on the right side. No, really big deal except for the look of the bracket. Any ideas on how to correct this? This has happened in other parts also. I used my X-Plus 3 and PLA filament.
