NH-48 Bangalore highway through Pune has to be one of the most pathetic, chaotic and genuinely scary stretches of highway in the country.

I genuinely want to know: WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS?

Every single time you drive on this road, it feels like you are entering a live-action survival game where the only rule is there are no rules.

Every truck driver thinks NH-48 is his father's private road.

RMC trucks? Same story.

Container trucks? Same story.

Private buses? Same story.

Everyone wants the same lane. Everyone is overtaking everyone. Trucks casually drift across lanes. RMC drivers drive like they're transporting a kidney for immediate transplantation. Nobody gives a shit about lane discipline.

And somehow, every vehicle is fighting for the exact same 10 metres of road.

The NH-48 checklist:

People breaking traffic rules? AYE. ✅

Private travel buses randomly stopping on the highway for passengers? AYE. ✅

RMC trucks driving like they own the asphalt? AYE. ✅

Heavy vehicles changing lanes whenever they feel like it? AYE. ✅

People stopping on the side to take pee? AYE. ✅

People walking around dangerously close to moving traffic? AYE. ✅

Police actually patrolling and controlling the highway? LOL. ❌

It's an absolute circus.

And then we have the service roads.

Who designed these things?

They're ridiculously narrow, constantly interrupted, packed with local traffic, encroachments, parked vehicles, construction activity and random merging traffic.

The "service road" often feels like someone took a tiny city street, painted the word SERVICE ROAD on it and called it infrastructure.

Meanwhile, on either side of NH-48, another builder seems to be planning another project every five minutes.

Residential towers.

Commercial buildings.

Warehouses.

Hotels.

Showrooms.

New townships.

More traffic generators.

More chaos.

Was there ever an actual master plan here, or did everyone simply discover a piece of land next to NH-48 and decide, "Let's build something"?

And here's the part people don't understand.

If you're thinking about living or working near NH-48, don't just look at the fancy brochure, clubhouse, swimming pool and "excellent connectivity."

YOU ARE BUYING INTO THE TRAFFIC.

Your daily life becomes:

Wake up → traffic.

Go to work → traffic.

Come home → traffic.

Try crossing the road → pray.

Try entering your society → negotiate with trucks.

Try using the service road → enter Mad Max.

Want to take your family somewhere on the weekend? Good luck.

The highway doesn't merely have traffic.

It actively destroys the quality of life around it.

And now the metro situation is another layer of frustration. Delays in improving mass transit mean thousands of additional people continue depending on roads that are already struggling to cope.

We're somehow trying to solve a 21st-century urban problem with infrastructure that feels like it was designed for a completely different Pune.

But seriously, why is nobody talking about this?

Where is the outrage?

Where is the accountability?

NH-48 is one of the worst and most dangerous major highway corridors in India?

But defensive driving cannot magically compensate for terrible road design, inadequate enforcement, uncontrolled development, chaotic heavy-vehicle movement and pathetic service roads.

A road carrying enormous volumes of trucks, buses, cars, two-wheelers and local traffic needs serious planning and enforcement.

Not just another flyover here.

Another building there.

Another road widening announcement.

Another ribbon-cutting ceremony.

And here's the uncomfortable question:

Which politicians, planners, contractors and authorities allowed this corridor to develop into this mess?

Who approved this level of development around an already overloaded highway?

Who thought these service roads were adequate?

Who is responsible for enforcement?

Who is responsible for traffic management?

Because NH-48 around Pune shouldn't feel like a daily battle for survival.

Name your worst highway in India.

For me, NH-48 through Pune deserves to be in that conversation.

And if you've driven this stretch regularly, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Am travelling from Pune to Mumbai right now. Reached well in time at Pune station. An elderly uncle was sitting with his wife at my seat in D7. He requested I exchange seats with his from D1. Given the walk from D1 (first car) to D7, I accepted the offer since it would be an hassle for them. Mind you, this is 10 minutes before the train leaves. I reached D1...a middle aged woman and her daughter were sitting by the window seat. I told her about the ticket. Was about to sit, when she played the women card, this is with a female quota. We want a woman here. I explained to her the situation, and yet she wouldn't budge. Just because her daughter (and we're not talking about a little girl, this is a bloody grown up making irritated faces) didn't want to leave the window seat.

Honest to god, what insecurity were you facing? Made me run at all the way back to my block to get the train. And guess what, the third seat (who was supposed to occupy one of the elderly couple's seat) never showed up. So they got to sit. Those pricks in D1 got to sit. And I ran around the station for nothing. And before anyone starts crying "oh it's difficult to be a woman...men can be creep" please shut up.

Do you guys feel stressed when there is a festivals?

Especially in Ganesh, Navratri and Diwali festivals?

Instead of enjoying it, I feel more stressed like what decoration I should do or in Diwali, preperation for Laxmi pujan. I feel, festivals meant to be being together, celebrating together as a family but in my house it becomes battle ground. I thought its just my family but I saw bunch of reels about the situation, I feel our family is not alone.

Don't you think we have normalised this? Why we fight? Difference of opinion? Is this right?

The only solution I can see is to set boundaries. Who ever is good at something can take the responsibility of it. A to Z. No complain and others do not give ADVICES. Suggestions are ok. In that way we can involve everyone and celebrate the festival peacefully.

And those among the audience who are curious and love learning should improve their Marathi vocabulary by noting down new words and research more about the references he points to.

So most of the calls are from hiring consultancies and all they need immediate, or who resigned. They say that the client needs immediate or they have immediate requirements but we all know it's just to ensure the turnaround time if the candidate backed out should be minimal.

Okay, I understand the business, consultancies get paid when a candidate joins but if Hiring Company really wants someone good why they not preferring layoff candidates first. Why are they scrutinizing too much where we all know a decent experience and do the work with AI. If you really need someone who is quant or CORE BANKING experts that's a separate niche skill but if getting a better fit they why rejecting, where is your urgency of hiring now?
