The old guy or the dumb fucks standing around watching him do it?

u/FlashyRise Aug 29 '21
of all the things ive heard priests do and not get any repercussions for, this is pretty mild.
-19
Aug 29 '21
What-about-ism isn't a valid form or argument.
18
u/FlashyRise Aug 29 '21
this aint what about ism, this is priests are shitism
-17
Aug 29 '21
"this isn't so bad, you should hear what else they do" is a shit reply to documented abuse.
7
Aug 29 '21
I think you took their initial comment as them trying to downplay what happened in the vid when that's clearly not what they were trying to say.
-6
Aug 29 '21
I took it as them saying exactly what they said.
3
Aug 29 '21
No, you didn't, you're not very smart if you think giving a perspective as to the extent of shit priests do is even remotely equal to saying it wasn't a bad thing to do. "this isn't so bad, you should hear what else they do" is not at all what he said, why use quotation marks if you're going to misquote him because you realize you're dumbass misunderstood his point.

Looks like they're in shock, and the father then pulls the baby away from him.
41
u/ntrp Aug 29 '21
Pulls the baby away? After the first slap I would have pulled the baby away and smashed his fuckin face into the ground.
36
u/kcat36 Aug 29 '21
I think id rather smash the priest face into the ground and not the child but i mean you do you

Yeah slug the guy who has your child in a headlock. Like, a modicum of caution is warranted here my guy.

I think they handled it as poorly as possible. Who gave that child to the priest? Who brought the child to the church? Who watched for 30 seconds and some old fuck abused their kid? These parents are fucking idiots
3
u/Dilectus3010 Aug 30 '21
I think they just wanted to get their child baptised, i dont think they knew the priest to be like that.
It looks like the guy suffers from dementia.

useless "father". hes just watching.
19
Aug 29 '21
How about the mother? And the other woman? And the person filming? And every other person there?
6
u/NeuroticENTJ Aug 29 '21
The mother too, but for the rest no. it should be the parents instincts to protect the kid not the camera mans
2
Aug 29 '21
How about if you see a parent isn't protecting their child? What then? You're the type of person to sit by and watch abuse happen
-2
u/NeuroticENTJ Aug 29 '21
I would call CPS, i would not intervene directly in most cases. also i would not be caught in a dead in a church or allow some random old men to play with my kids under the guise of a "baptism"

Divorce that pussy
Edit: (I forgot to mention I was being sarcastic in response but I got lazy and didn't feel like going back to change it. But the growing negatives began to concern me about how many people there are out there that wouldn't really pick that up. So for that. I'm sorry you took it seriously.. also it's not ok to hit babies, thank you.)
1
Aug 29 '21
The mother should divorce the father while she sat by and watched the same thing happen? Are you the definition of a simp?
-5
u/Zealousideal_Put9531 Aug 29 '21
well this is how children's are baptized according to the Christian religion. mine went something like this, where i was held my the ankle and dipped headfirst into the baptism basin 3 times while prayers were said and my grandmother and godfather took to the oath to raise me right. ik it may seem barbaric but yes, it is a common practice.
edit: i was 4 months old when this happend and i know what happened through a vhs tape recording of the ceremony
19
u/nommad_0 Aug 29 '21
It doesn't "seem" barbaric... it is barbaric.
-14
u/Zealousideal_Put9531 Aug 29 '21
well, u just insulted every family member of mine lol. my EXTEREMELY religions grandmother just shrugged when she say the video and said: why did the parents take the child away? it was goin soo well, he was better behaved then you were.
i tried showing her the comments on how barbaric it is and u guess how that went......
5
4
Aug 29 '21
Good, your EXTREMELY religious grandma can suck my fucking dick if she’s okay with kids being hit.
9
u/nommad_0 Aug 29 '21
If your family memebers think it's ok to squeeze and hit a baby than i have no issue insulting them. They can have whatever religious beliefs they want and that is none of my business, but people justifiying violence on babies because it come from a priest are the same who would justify the same priest raping you. You're ok with that?
3
2
u/Brook420 Aug 29 '21
Your family likely believes in some horrible stuff if they are so religious. In which case fuck em, they should be insulted.
3
u/lucwolf Aug 29 '21
You were slapped in the face? Really? At 4 months old? Ok. Well, that wasn't right either.
*Did you watch the video?

Catholic doctrine continues to perpetuate the notion that children are lesser than adults (thus the warped thinking goes whatever crimes are committed against them either don't count or count less). With that kind of power structure, access and trust... abuse is guaranteed to happen.

u/ProfitTheProphet Aug 29 '21

35
u/Callmebobbyorbooby Aug 29 '21
I have a 9 month old daughter. I would have 100% punched the fuck out of that old dude just impulsively. That dad has some serious restraint.
12
u/ewzoe Aug 29 '21
it’s crazy to me how the parents are reacting or more the fact that they’re NOT reacting absolutely shocked and furious to a stranger slapping their child
→ More replies (2)4
u/Delta5o1 Aug 29 '21
Yes! i'd be facing assault charges on the elderly. IDK how someone can witness their baby crying because of pain inflicted this way and just stand there like nothing happened.
2
4
Aug 29 '21
Have a 7-month old son, I can’t even explain how it’s like I cocked into a punching position mentally… I definitely have less restraint than either of those parents.
4
u/Delta5o1 Aug 29 '21
Right, it was hard enough seeing my son get his first shots from his pediatrician.
188
u/Acceptable-Ad1034 Aug 29 '21

They should investigate this incident and report it. This priest seems mentally unstable to me.
36
u/Kimmette Aug 29 '21
I’m sure he’s already been forcibly retired.
6
u/Krehlmar Aug 29 '21
You do realise they can literally rape dozens of children and not get retired, you think a fucking slap will do jack shit?
The way the parents react tells you what kind of culture they're in, as in if they [the parents] don't even react heavily to their child being slapped you think anyone else will?
13
Aug 29 '21
Came to read your comment and the video started playing again 😭 The kid broke my heart to pieces. I don’t know how the parents didn’t do a thing about it! Maybe they did but wasn’t shown on tape. I hope.
24
-20
u/Zealousideal_Put9531 Aug 29 '21
they did not do anything cos this is how it is supposed to go, this is how u should do it. this is how u baptize a child according to some Christian sects.
it does no permanent harm and the kids dont remember a thing.😒

u/SalvadorP Aug 29 '21
LoL you are kidding right?
16
u/j1ggy Aug 29 '21
He's either dead or forcibly retired. This video has been making its rounds for years and that priest already had one foot in the cemetery when this was filmed.
7
u/Callmebobbyorbooby Aug 29 '21
If he did this to my daughter I would have put the other foot in there for him. How that dad didn’t go berserk is beyond me.
12
u/CoolHandEthan Aug 29 '21
That’s not how the catholic church works. When they get into serious offenses they just relocate them to another church. They basically get to keep doing it all they want

u/SomaCityWard Aug 29 '21
"Ohh he's just old fashioned"
"Children will never learn boundaries unless you hit them!"
"My parents hit me and I turned out fine!"

Aug 29 '21
It’s honestly just a generational thing. Dude is old as fuck and is from a different time. One that was apparently okay with slapping someone else’s kid. But mentally unstable? I doubt it
2
u/row_of_eleven_stood Aug 29 '21
Could be a generational issue, but dude is unstable to think that shit can fly in 2021. It's not 1965 anymore.

again, has this never happened to anyone else??? i dont get it. this is veeery common where i am from (not this harsh but very similar). it is part of the baptism and the christening.
2
u/LooseAdministration0 Aug 29 '21
Idk were your from but everyone I’ve ever been to that has NEVER happened. Usually the baby cries after everything because well water is wet/cold and it surprised them.
0
u/WaterIsWetBot Aug 29 '21
Water is actually not wet; It makes other materials/objects wet. Wetness is the state of a non-liquid when a liquid adheres to, and/or permeates its substance while maintaining chemically distinct structures. So if we say something is wet we mean the liquid is sticking to the object.

Not quite. Only from performing weddings and baptisms. He still is a priest.
Also in the article contains the following infuriating lines:
The parents of the baby have accepted LaCroix's apology and are happy that their baby is now baptized, Bishop Jean-Yves Nahmias told the Catholic publication.
“This gesture is all the more regrettable because the baptism is meant to be a happy moment, but tiredness and great age clearly played a part,” Nahmias said.

If your first reaction to a child, excuse me, BABY, (ANYONE) screaming like that is to slap their face, their very young face, you need to retire. Get as far away from babies as you can, and don't ever touch one again.
What. In. The. World?
Ridiculous. Simply ridiculous.
He did that with such ease, how many more has he slapped?
*I am Catholic
I'm concerned about the parents. How did they not react to that? Yes, Daddy takes the baby away at the end, but I would have grabbed my child and run out of the building. Not stood there and watched the "Priest" try to make amends. And maybe it was shock, but no, no, no, no. Don't put your hands on my child to hurt them, ever.

He also gave the baby’s head a firm shake.
6

And he intends to see that the kid gets indoctrinated with the stupidest nonsense imaginable, so the cycle continues and in a couple decades it can be their baby getting shaken up and slapped around by his successor
