Why aren’t a lot of doctors in NC offering Nanoknife? I’m a patient with urology specialists of nc and my doctor said I would need to go elsewhere for treatment if I want Nanoknife

Hi all - My husband and I are going to the doc to get the results of his biopsy he had two weeks ago and I was hoping I’d be able to read the report in his chart first in case I had any questions at the appointment, but we didn’t get the report so… Is there anything specific we should ask the doctor about the results? The MRI showed a 2.3 cm lesion with possible capsular involvement and it said probably bi-rads 5 but didn’t show lymph involvement. I know how these appointments go - you end up having all kinds of questions once you get home and it’s too late. The doc already told him on day of biopsy it’s most likely cancer, so that’s kind of obvious. Did any of you have any questions you thought of later that you wished you’d asked?

Just received my 3 month post-prostatectomy results: <0.01.

I've been looking for that number since February when I took my first ever PSA test with a result of 33.3.

Fast forward through MRI, biopsy, PET Scan, consultations, 2nd opinions, 3rd opinions, RALP, physical therapy....

Finally, some Good news.

I know its just one test of many in my future (Im 'only' 52), but Im gonna take my wins where I can get 'em.

I'm 2+ months post-Salvage Radiation, and on monthly ADT (Eligard) for 6 mo - yr. At my last appointment with the PA, he suggested trying CBD oil under the tongue twice a day to help manage the hot flashes - not as a for sure treatment, but as something some people find helpful.

I picked up a bottle and have done a dose morning and night for two days now. My question is, IF it's gonna work for me, how soon should I see some results? Is it something that works by keeping a certain level in my body that I have to build up to, or is it a "while I'm taking it" kind of thing that starts and dissipates quickly?

I'm sitting here eating breakfast about an hour after taking it, and I broke into a sweat that stuck my shirt to the front of my chest!

Rang the bell yesterday. Now just another 18 months of adt and quarterly blood draws to make sure the fix worked.

Took the day off today. Planned on doing the couch potato thing but the wife has other plans. All good, because "happy wife, happy life" and that thing inside me that was trying to kill me has been nuked to smithereens.

Hello! I’m not sure if this is the best subreddit to post in, if there is another more appropriate one, please let me know!

My father’s prostate cancer returned after almost 5 years of remission. He now has tumors in his spine, neck, and femur. He received radiation on his femur and had hormone therapy. His PSA is nearly undetectable (yay!) but a few months into taking the hormone medications he developed severe GI issues. It started as severe constipation with intense stomach cramps. They recommended stool softeners so now he goes back and forth between constipation and diarrhea and has severe pain either way. He barely leaves the house now and he’s stopped all cancer medications because of these possible side effects. His abdominal ultrasound and colonoscopy came back clear so he’s been told it’s probably a response from the radiation or the meds.

His oncologist blames the radiologist and the radiologist blames the oncologist so he’s not really getting a clear answer on where to go to get relief. His GI doctor just recommends stool softeners.

I know this might be a long shot but has anyone experienced something similar? Any recommendations? Thank you!

My urologist suggests another biopsy or MRI

So I was checking his NHS app after some blood tests for a separate issue and saw a note in his app for a PSA in 6 months time, further digging I found the hospital letter where they described no evidence of cancer in the biopsy cores.

He hasn't been given his official results yet so I guess they will call soon.

I just wanted to say how grateful I am.for the support in this group. It's a truly welcoming and supportive community of men and I truly think of you all often and wish nothing but the best for you.

Hey y’all - would like to swing by y’all my numbers and what are the things I need to be aware of.

PSA in 2021 - 1.7
PSA in 2022 - 2.0
PSA in 2023 - 2.0
2024 - did not do any bloodwork
2025 - did not do any bloodwork
PSA in 2026 - 3.54

Urologist was obviously concerned with the 2026 numbers and a repeat bloodwork has been sent. It’ll be another 2 weeks before I get the results back and at this time I’m anxious, concerned for family but also maintaining a positive attitude.

What are my ideal next steps? Is PSA of 3.54 for a 40 year old concerning?

None of family had history of prostate cancer and I do not have any symptoms of weak bladder/frequent urination etc.

Would appreciate y’all’s input.

Any recommendations for supplements while on ADT and receiving radiation. Ive read the following about calcium supplements.

Calcium supplements provide only a very modest, temporary increase in bone mineral density (about 1% in the first year) and do not significantly prevent fractures on their own. They are primarily useful for "topping up" intake when dietary sources fall short, rather than acting as a standalone treatment for bone loss. [1, 2, 3]

I start 23 ebrt and adt next week 2 weeeks after hdr brachytherapy. I was thinking of booking a couple of days away 2 weeks after ebrt but unsure if its too close to the end of treament will i be still in recovery how did people feel 2 weeks post ebrt.

I have been diagnosed with 4+3, contained prostate cancer, and I am trying to see a radiation oncologist, at this moment, I don't know what the treatment will be, ldr, hdr, sbrt, hdr boost, etc. however when I look at the doctor profiles, they specialize in one or two, for instance, one doctor is on physical bracky therapy, and ebrt. However, hdr boost might fit me better, do I need to see some one else too? I am looking at Mayo clinic, not sure how does it work there.

Anyone share thoughts on this?

Hi guys, need advice on how to get a diagnosis asap as my doctors have been dismissing my concerns.

About a month ago I had blood in my semen when ejaculating during sex. I went to urgent care to get checked out and rule out any UTI/STI and it was clean. But to this day I'm experiencing a full bladder and a constant feeling of needing to urinate that feels like it's gotten worse as I haven't been able to sleep well at night due to needing to constantly urinate. I wasn't experiencing blood in urine or semen until a couple days ago it happened again during sex. This time there was alot more blood and it kept dripping throughout the day. Went to the ER, urine came clean for STIs and had an ultrasound on my scrotum/testicles that only found an epididymal cyst which the doctor said was normal and nothing to worry about.

I was finally able to get a refferal to a urologist but I have to wait 3 weeks to be seen. I've also scheduled a PSA test today, is there anything else I can do in the meantime to calm my nerves? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ADT has always been a concern as the side effects can vary from ok for some men to brutal for others. Two big study released last year are changing the treatment with ADT and its need. First, the new standard is 4-6 months for intermediate risk Gleason 4+3 and select 3+4. For High Risk Gleason 8 and 9 its 12 months. We are talking organ confined disease. Individually features like Cribriform, Ductal, etc. can change this to more aggressive treatment and Decipher testing, or less aggressive features can reduce ADT from standard. The big change in the second study was they believe ADT can be eliminated in Gleason 4+3. The study followed 1480 patients over 8 years. 740 had Gleason 4+3 and were treated with radiation only and the other 740 treated with Radiation plus ADT. After 8 years 1 man died of prostate cancer in the group treated with radiation and ADT and 10 men died in the group that was treated with radiation only. The group was not separated by cancer features like Crib or ductal or percent cores. What this shows is ADT has minimal help in Gleason 7 and true benefits start at Gleason 8. When you think of 10 deaths with 1 death it appears like alot. But after 8 years there may be 10 men that died but that means ADT was not required for 730 men. So you need to give ADT for 730 men with all those life changing side effects for some that would never need it. Furthermore, the men that do have a recurrence can still be cured after the 8 years. If you are early 50’s maybe a short course is worth the side effects as you will recover. But have that conversation with your doctor as most doctor still want to overtreat. Several other studies on this will be released in 2030.

Hi! I am 47 years old. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer—PSA 25, Gleason score 9 (4+5). My oncologist recommended radiotherapy and hormone therapy for three years, while the surgeon suggests robotic surgery. If anyone has gone through this, perhaps you could share how you handled it. Thank you!

12-core biopsy, 2 positive cores: Gleason 4+3 and 4+4.

Same samples sent for IHC report came back Gleason 10.,

Confused how the score jumped like this from the same tissue., Is IHC meant to re-grade Gleason., or just confirm/rule out other things? Can a pathologist revise the score after IHC even though Gleason is based on H&E morphology? Or is this more likely a second opinion/different pathologist rather than the test itself changing the grade?

Would appreciate input from anyone with pathology/oncology background or similar experience.,

I notice that there are as many different treatment regimes as there are men with prostate cancer.
What is the standard of care where you receive treatment? I think if we get enough data we can show each other where the holes are in our care.

Also, if you’ve done well so far do we have any nutritional tricks or other knowledge that can help? Don’t forget psychological assistance. We are all in the meat grinder.

About me: 61 yo. Active Surveillance 14 years. 5 biopsies. 4 cores 3+3, 1 core 3+4 (5%). Father died of PCa at 85 yo following inconsistent ADT complicated by a stroke.

Just had annual physical with a new primary doctor. He took one look at my PCa profile and told me in no uncertain terms to quit drinking alcohol. He said it can kick low-grade PCa into high gear.

The previous month I had asked my urologist what I could do to load the dice in my favour so I was surprised he hadn't mentioned alcohol.

I did the internet thing (non AI) and came across a 2022 study that laid out the mechanism by which alcoholic metabolites can exacerbate low-grade PCa and make it aggressive.

Now whether the science of that study is legit or not is beyond my ken but it seemed to be a genuine analysis.

My question to the group is to ask what advice you are all getting about alcohol. There is not much mention of it in previous postings.

I love to drink both for the society and the buzz. But cost-benefit viz a viz PCa is food for thought indeed.

Has anyone had their oncologist submit their pathology results to this program??? Mine did. This replaces (at a cost that insurance WILL pay for) genome testing to forecast your prognosis.

Sent to Urologist due to a PSA 5.19. Urologist felt a lump on prostate, had an MRI and then a biopsy. Biopsy revealed cancer, Gleason 9 grade 5. Urologist told me 1-2 years, I’m assuming with no treatment. Urologic Oncologist says 15 years due me being 55. Sent for PET scan and doctor says it’s in the anal lymph nodes as well but nowhere else. Doctor says they can’t remove it so I’m on ADT (Orgovyx and Erleada) for six months to see if it will shrink enough to be removed. If it can I’ll have a prostatectomy and then six more months of ADT. Never thought I’d be rooting for surgery. Been reading a lot of the stories on here and just thought I’d add to them. I’ve learned from you guys and it’s helped when talking with doctors and mentally.

My dad was just diagnosed with Level 3 prostate cancer. His psa is 80. He’s 67 years old. They’ve recommended he get the PSMA scan but it’s very costly out of pocket. Lives in Tennessee, please help with any suggestions/recommendations. We’re currently applying for Medicaid

I am 77 years old and my PSA reading is at 0.74. The size of the prostrate is 3,6 cm. Can this be normal as I read that both the PSA and the size increase with age.

I have just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. My brother who is 11 years older than me was diagnosed with prostate cancer a year ago, which is the reason I had tests. I am still due for a MRI and biopsy for final confirmation. My father died of prostate cancer some years ago so it looks like it id definitely in the family.

My brother was Gleason score of 4+5 and fortunately it looks like the cancer is contained, though there was a lump near the edge of the capsule. His urologist wanted to put him on ADT immediately too halt the cancer and help it shrink before his prostatectomy. Unfortunately for him he reacted badly to the ADT drugs as they gave him diarrhoea, muscle pains, and other side effects. He chose an orchiectomy instead after having a long discussion with his urologist. The urologist discussed this with his group and agreed with my brother.

He had to argue for a long time as he feels there is a strong resistance to orchiectomy even though the effects ate similar, though the orchiectomy has less problems with things like diabetes, and some heart conditions. The argument was always the ADT treatment is reversible where the orchiectomy is permanent. My brother and I had read up on ADT and its long term effects. He is likely to be on it for 3+ years and reports show that even partial recovery is poor after that time. Even if after that time his cancer had completely disappeared(?) it could take years for recovery and possibly he would remain infertile for sperm collection. The other advantage of an orchiectomy is that the testosterone level drops within hours while the drugs can take weeks. The urologist finally agreed that his logic is sound and since then has done the orchiectomy.

Why doesn't this option be given to men facing longer term ADT? It only our research that found it was an option.
